Whose the best warm up DJ?

My vote goes for Phil Thompson for Diggers Close second: Luke Fair for whoever :wink:

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

James Zabiela when he opened for Sasha a couple years back. He was more low key with his bag of tricks and totally out to prove himself. He built the anticipation up perfectly. This year at Mansion, though, I thought he was disappointing. I think he's out of "opening DJ" practice.

Sean Cusick for Digweed, or anyone for that matter. He never really goes for the big tracks anyway, so his style is perfect for an opening set.

Three when he opened for Lee Burridge was fantastic as well.

Those three get my vote.

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

john debo did a great job at nye with digweed.

kazell did another great job at the mayan when he opened up for digweed.

jimmy van m for the delta heavy 2002 tour.

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

greg pappanastos did an excellent job for danny howells recently.

nice variations.

#218628Post 7 of 63

jimmy van m or steve porter... seen them both open for sasha or digweed and they were just as good in their own right than the main djs... :RightOn:

#218629Post 8 of 63

dave cannalte (balance) opened for diggers at ICON orlando (march 2001-pre wmc) one of the most intelligent perfectly programmed sets ive ever witnessed.

jimmy van m drops some beatiful music, and if he feels like it, can rock a party senseless. never had the pleasure of hearing moonface open.

heard steve porter open for sasha here in oct 2002...incredible set. very building and energetic. very nice guy to boot.

only time i saw sean cusick open for someone was the pre-delta heavy party in Orlando @ hard rock. good housy stuff. get yer ass in mood kinda groove. but nothing over-exciting.

my vote is for jimmy van m. the man can deliver any given set on any given night. a real artist.

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

Yunus is very good; also, the less known Oliver Berge, previously one of the usual suspects at Arc... :)

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ
jimmy van m for the delta heavy 2002 tour.
precisely my words

Liquid Todd for Oakenfold. I like his progressive/breaky sets better than Oakenfold's. In fact, I saw them last weekend... they were in town and I went, 'cause, well they were here. Todds set was awesome and Oakenfold's was as to be expected (though train-wrecked less than expected). I told Todd his sets were better than Oakey's and he gave me this look like "are you kidding?", I also said he rocked WMC and said another comment about it... then he knew i knew what I was talking about. Then, he gave me the "thanks bro, that means a lot to be told your sets are better than the greatest has been DJ in the world"

LOL

good times :wink:

Cattaneo - a warmup DJ? Whaddaya smoking now? I want some of that hydro too :WinkNSmi: Seriously, Luke Fair was warmin' up up the crowd somethin' serious before Hernan really kicked the shit in gear, so I have to give props to Luke for making me... puke? Hey, that rhymed. Imagine that guy on my Avatar blowing chunks, and skip dinner, you will. In any case, pencil me in for voting BWDJ - Luke Fair! :RockOn:

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

Never heard a decent warmup DJ (personally I would hate to do it) empty dancefloors,boring tedious sets. I heard Hernan in a warmup set on Friday for Tom Stephen which was terrible ,it was getting on for 2.00am and he was still warming up as if it was 12.00 the crowds in my area were very fast disappearing.

#219028Post 32 of 63

another vote for phil thompson... i prefer his sets at bedrock london to bedrock brighton though... a bit deeper i think

some people really don't like phil at warmup but personally i think he's bang on the money. look around the main room at bedrock an hour into his set and the floor will be filled, everyone will be moovin and groovin but not jumping about bigtime... perfect warmup set, especially when you're warming up for the likes of diggers

#219087Post 33 of 63

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

Nice to see Phil getting some votes. He's also making some good music these days.

:Bingo: to Phil.

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

What do you think makes someone a good warmup dj?

#221776Post 39 of 63

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ
What do you think makes someone a good warmup dj?
I think a good warmup dj gets the crowd loosened up, sets the mood and, plays a good set that builds into the headliner.. but doesnt try to overshadow the head liner. DJ Three opened for Sasha twice when he was in Tampa recently (december '03 and Feb '04) and it was a very nice start to the night.

#221780Post 40 of 63

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

Depends on the night, who is coming up next, the crowd, so I don?t really have a favourite. :unsure:

A good warm-up dj is someone who can read the crowd, and build a great atomsphere ready for who is on next and get the dancefloor moving.
