Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

What do you think makes someone a good warmup dj?
I think a good warmup dj gets the crowd loosened up, sets the mood and, plays a good set that builds into the headliner.. but doesnt try to overshadow the head liner. DJ Three opened for Sasha twice when he was in Tampa recently (december '03 and Feb '04) and it was a very nice start to the night.
Definatly Three rocked it, especially at the Feb 04 show...I can remember his last record before sasha came on was the Floyd song Hey You....

He was playing some mean tracks and it set sasha off great.

Have to go with Sean Cusick and Ariel who used to do the light for DT at Vinyl/Arc. Definitely created a cool vibe leading up to DT.

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

I have to say Phil Thompson. I've only seen him twice when I was in London two summers ago and I was blown away from his openers. Ever since then, I've been a big fan. Another great opener is Roland, who opens for Oscar G @ Club Space, Miami. He always sets it up nicely for O.G. :mrgreen:

Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

Luke Fair is my man as a warm-up DJ and a headliner but there are so many great warm up DJs out there...

Brad Copeland rocked the house before each guest spinning at Stereo in Montreal in 2003...

Greg Benz has been so silky smooth in warm up duties for Luke...

Steve Porter was excellent each time he warmed up for Sasha in Toronto...

JZ was stellar in the warm up spot at the WMC's Delta Heavy...

and JZ and Luke combined for the best warm up set ever on the Delta Heavy boat cruise.

Old school warm up DJ: Danny Howells, they say no one has been better in the warm up spot then him..

others to look out for if you're ever in a club in Toronto:

Lee Osborne & Steve Mack at System Soundbar and Matt Coleridge at Boa-Redux

Cattaneo - a warmup DJ? Whaddaya smoking now? I want some of that hydro too :WinkNSmi: Seriously, Luke Fair was warmin' up up the crowd somethin' serious before Hernan really kicked the shit in gear, so I have to give props to Luke for making me... puke? Hey, that rhymed. Imagine that guy on my Avatar blowing chunks, and skip dinner, you will. In any case, pencil me in for voting BWDJ - Luke Fair! :RockOn:
Re:: Best Warm Up DJ

What about the worst warm-up DJ?

I was in Asta, the Hague, Digweed was gonna play. The night should have been warmed up by the one and only DJ Johan Cyber. It was a disaster: completely without respect for Digweed, he played the one hard deep record after the other up-tempo cheesy trance record. No build-up at all. Ofcourse Digweed made everything right in the end, but this was by far the worst Warm-Up I ever heard.
