I just got a PM from this chick on MySpace:
From: a tru blondi Date: Sep 17, 2005 12:45 PM

Hi How are you? You don't know me but I was just browsing some people around my area on the site and I came across your profile. Looks interesting. I'm looking for some friends around here, people to hang out with. Would you wanna chat sometime? Get to know each other and hang out sometime? I have a lot more pics I can let you see also if you want. If you're interested I tell you what...If you don't mind, why don't you email me at my regular address. It's just a lot more convenient for me 'cause I don't come on this site much at all and I check my other mail every day. My username there is NewKCGurly005 the at sign and hot mail dot com. Sound good? Hope To talk to you soon. See ya!

Sara
I sent this back:
Haven't you sent me a message in the past with a different MySpace account and picture? A brunette with a different face was in the picture... like a month or two ago. Why are you messaging me?

Adam
I know I've seen that NewKCGurly005 hotmail address before, and the last time it came from some brunette chick with a completely different face. I never sent a reply to the first person's message, and within days the account no longer existed, which erased the message from my Inbox... so i have no way of checking the email address. The first account had 1 friend (Tom) and almost no customization, just like this one...

I'm basically logging this here so the next time (if it happens again) I can go back and figure out if they're stupid enough to use the same email address 3 times.

I'm 100% confused what this chick is up to. Any ideas?

To hell with myspace.. Just go to after hour clubs and bang strippers for free.

Seriously this does sound a bit shady

#476783Post 6 of 78

yeah i got that too ..the wording was different and the chicks name was christy..she wanted me to email her at her account, i did and she replied saying how much she wanted to meet me and to go see her pictures at an adult matchmaker (swingers site).. whats really wierd is that she went as far as saying that she had tickets to a show that friday night and to let her know if i wanted to come.... i replied to that saying that i refuse to register on a porn site..got an email 2 days later asking why i hadn't replied :?...

after i got that first email, i tried to look for her profile again and it was gone...

Re: MySpace confusion

One of my friends got this sort of thing too and it turned out to be an escort service. Dont remember all the details but I think he either contacted via email or by phone and found out that way. The details are real similar to what was posted.

Nothing better than a browser hijack to wake you in the morning. Someone tried to "view my homepage" for a female who sent him a similar message. Ever since, I've been running over hell and creation getting his system in order. Thank god we had a fresh pot of coffee.

Re: MySpace confusion

MySpace is full of bots. Its the most virus infested web site on Earth... other than microsoft.com of course. Thats why I dont go anywhere near it.

MySpace uses a lot of AJAX, and its easy to hack it using XSS. Well, not trivial, but possible. So dont be surprised is those messages were actually sent by a bot...

#495209Post 22 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

I have his machine back in working order. At least he can get online again and he past the system lockups. Our sonicwall (firewall) with McAfee Managed Scan didn't pickup any virus' however spyware found trojans, dialers, etc and spybot the same. Everything pulled out of add/remove progs that shouldn't be there, yet he's still getting popups (like this grey dialog box with advetisements that pops up near the sys tray and then hides itself again). Suggestions?

#495218Post 23 of 78

I don't get those... are you sure it's myspace and not some spyware running in the background?

I'm quite sure. The popup is called IQ Test. There should be a removal tool somewhere online but I can't find it. The biggest issue was created by COMMAND or COMMANDER which was installed on the machine.

Re: MySpace confusion

Sorry Adam, I should have mentioned- this was an infected pc I've been working on. Some douche in my company (my boss :Naughty: ) clicked on something he wasn't supposed to in his myspace inbox. I've been de-funking his computer since.

Re: MySpace confusion

Found it!

Web-nexus.com installed some adaware on IE. Making IE crash when you try to open.

Luckily there is Firefox!

does IE still crash when you try opening it? is it an immediate crash, or after you browse a few pages?

#495375Post 30 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

Its an immediate crash. Sounds like the works of a worm, but he came up clean through firewall managed antivirus. If this was my machine, I would have ffr by now.

*this is the second computer I've had to work on due to myspace.

#495395Post 31 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

I still don't think it's myspace

does Windows Explorer open? if so, open it, turn on the Address bar if it's off (View, Toolbars, Address Bar), then type in http://google.com.

did it crash, or are you in google? if you're in google, go to View, Toolbars, and look for any additional crazy toolbars that shouldn't be there... they'll likely be unchecked. let me know if you see any

#495410Post 32 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

It wasn't myspace. It was a link he clicked on inside a message that he received in his myspace inbox.

The toolbars were the first thing I removed after this site began loading up his computer.

There were crazy links on his desktop. Ipod video, golden casino, Free Daily Porn, Shopiing, he got fucked up! Luckily I keep backup after backup after backup. I would just hate to have to have to full format recover!

#495412Post 33 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

and IE still doesn't load?

 1. download AutoRuns: http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/Autoruns.zip
 2. run autoruns.exe
 3. wait for the hourglass to disappear from the "Everything" tab (or, at least the IE tab)
 4. go to the Internet Explorer tab
 5. post a screenshot

we're looking for any dll in there that doesn't have the publisher column filled in, or it says something other than a known good vendor (Microsoft, Adobe, etc)

#495414Post 34 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

Will do in the morning!

Yea man, I've been running all sorts of removal tools for each piece of adware. But I'm missing at least 2 more removals before he's completely disenfected.

#495415Post 35 of 78

Re: MySpace confusion

btw... adware is a malicious program. Ad-aware is a program used to remove adware :Bingo:

It was several worms, just as suspected. IE will no longer crash saying fatal error, it just opens and then closes again. If you can tolerate that log, you can see I disenfected all virus' however lots of adware/spyware remain - still getting popups. I will try to get Steve to show me the source message from myspace and post it.
