Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

looking forward to it!

he says they cleared 6cds of tunes, i wonder how much they couldn't clear -- it sounded like tokyo was the whole night to me. iirc someone said joe smooth - promised land was the last tune, i wonder if it was mostly the oldies that they couldn't get or if there are sneaky edits in the recording to take stuff out. does anyone know more about how these are done?

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

^ I was wondering the same thing. Hoping it's 6 consecutive hours.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

I see it´s a little more expensive than his previous releases. Anyways, beautiful edition.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

yes over 30 dollars US, with shipping, that does seem a bit steep.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

Are we saying: more older tunes may mean it was more expensive to licence, hence the inflated cost?

Is it really that much? I used to pay about the same for the imported renaissance discs back in the day and those were only 2 discs
Is it really that much? I used to pay about the same for the imported renaissance discs back in the day and those were only 2 discs
Given inflation you have a point! Besides, there are some sets of Digweed's I'd pay an obscene amount to have on CD...

Harder to license because you need the label to still be running / able to authorise (rather than getting sued later down the line) .. also some of the older labels are linked to majors who want £££s. This is likely to be a flat rate per track as you can't enter into a bidding war + it's unfair to pay 4x the amount to a stubborn label vs. an independent that may rely on the cashflow to re-invest in music.

This is £18.99 for 6 x CDs so £3.16 per CD ... pretty decent value*.

*To put that in perspective .. 6 x coffees can cost more than that in some places.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

I agree.

Did you manage to clear all the tracks or there are tracks missing in the CDs?

simonr, can you tell us if it's 6 consecutive hours or cut parts from the full set?

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

pre-orderd from Bedrock just to get get Simons smiley face signature on it :)

its an amazing CD series and while John keeps putting out such high quality Live In releases, I'll keep buying them.

we begged for years for live sets to be released. paraphrasing freddie ' this is what you wanted, this is what you're gonna get!'

and just to be clear - The Mrs spends WAY MORE on wankie coffees in month, than the price of these SIX discs.
I agree.

It's not me .. I just know about licensing etc. Scott D does all the Live In hard work and puts in countless hours on these releases ... so hats off to him.

Usually the older tracks are more difficult to clear .. but these are likely to be later on in John's set (as with Stereo) .. some of the older tracks were more recent e.g. the Innervisions music and Bedrock looks to have very good relations and a proven track record for supporting artists / labels with no messing them around.

The ATLANT label I run with BOg has 3 x tracks on here .. so we're very happy as this is great exposure for our music. The likes of John and Hernan have been big supporters :)

I'd say the CDs are pretty much complete ... thanks to Scott's hard work.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

Here's the tracklist from his the bedrock shopping site. Unfortunately the late stages of the party appear to be missing as CD6 tracks do not sound anything like the disco house he was slamming on like the final 2 hours. If each CD was 60 min, that's "only" 6 hours, if 70 min each, that's still 7hrs, and if maxed out at 80 min, then 8hrs... .so missing a good 3hrs I would guess from the whole set. The last 2 hours had some really old tracks and understandably probably hard to clear them. Hopefully we can get an update like he did with Montreal.

From the other output thread

The party was supposed to be 10pm to 8am. Tara Brooks was really good and had that dark, edgy vibe... then Diggers came on right before midnight, we welcomed the new years, then he kept on and on and on... it's the typical banging Digweed and was great, though I don't think he ever got into the vortex where he just destroyed the floor... or it could be just me. So 8am rolls by and he's still banging it out.. then 9... then he finally hung it up at 10am!!! The last hour or 1.5 hrs, I he was in the wind-down mode b/c he played a lot of vocal house... but I think he was just having fun, plus it was the final show at Output... the club is set to close - I don't know the reason why... I'm sure someone here knows. I went to a NYE 2015 party at LA Exchange club and by 5:30, 6, the floor was pretty bare... I almost felt bad for Digweed then. But these NY folks are not kidding around. Even at 6, the floor was still full... I kept wishing it to empty out so we'd actually get space to dance! Granted by 9, and finally 10, you can visibly see many spaces on the floor but still a decent sized crowd. When he went into the wind-down mode, it just hit me that we're in for something very special, this being the tail end of what turned out to be a 10 hour marathon set. I just kept grinning the whole time during the final hour. All in all, great night... pity Output is closing b/c it's a really nice, unpretentious club with good layout and a great sound system.

Played the 5 x cds last night (cheers JD) .. really really good, think will be one of the best. Great build and some timeless gems in there too.

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

almost done with CD 3 and it is my favorite thus far.. CD 1 was a little underwhelming if i am honest but it may not have been my expectation as he had Tara Brooks open

#1786981Post 35 of 83

Re: John Digweed's new Live In: Output

I agree about CD 1. I liked the beginning, and then the middle bit where it sounded tribal-ish I wasn't crazy about. But the last 20 mins he ramped it up only to drop the energy in CD 2. On to CD 4 now. So far I'm finding it quite uneven and it's not blowing my mind. CD 5 and 6 will have to be miraculous to pull off a Vortex at the point.

I prefer tighter, more linear programming with a build up leading to peak time, vortex, and a classics epilogue.
