Dont the fans deserve it?
IMO the fans got it. This mix was a very well put together mix. I'm sure John is aware that he is never going to make everyone happy (especially you Charlie :wink2: ). I'm a fan and I was impressed.

He hasnt put out a good set on his kiss show in years......I have all his older kiss sets archived if anyone wants to hear a quality digweed set.

by the way ska it doesnt take much to make me happy...just good music....and digweed has disappointed me for the past 2 years becuase he rearely releases a quality kick ass set....

come on now joe would poeple like sono say his set sounded like shit if it was a quality unbeleivable set????

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05
I guess you forgot how digweed sounded lets say from 1999-2003??? hugh joe?
Nope, not at all. But much like Digweed, I've evolved. My tastes have changed slightly (especially since I stopped getting fubar every week).
He hasnt pleased me in 2 years with his kiss show
To beat a dead horse even further, I don't think his goal is to put out a mind-blowing 60 minute mix each week. IMO it can't be done. He needs at least 4 hours to work his magic and an hour each week on the radio isn't going to get that done. Not to mention that you could hear the same set over the radio and in a club and it will sound completely different - that goes for all DJs!
Keep kissen his ass cuz thats waht he likes
I don't kiss anyone's ass, I just tell it like it is. And personally, I don't think that's what he likes. Digweed seems like a very humble, quiet guy and not someone that thrives on attention (at least that's the impression that I get).
....So keep emeiling him with all the positive feedback...
Never have and probably never will. He doesn't need people emailing him because his shows are forever packed with people willing to pay good money to see him.

I still think he does a wonderful job. I would miss him if you did not have his weekly show. Perhaps this year is just a slow year. Sasha was in that phase last year, I think it it the same for John. He sure can pull some records out of the bag.

Well, this was probably his definition of a good liveset nowadays. I?m actually enjoying it.

I think this discussion is useless, at this moment...I?m sure he can bang out wicked dark prog sets as soon as he feels like it, he?s just into different stuff nowadays...I mean, his favourite label now is Kompakt, that?s where his heart is at. We either follow it or not, not much use in crying about that, and it?s probably a perfect reason to try and listen to fresh new talent.

What is discussable for me though, is why Sasha seems to have made his transistion to a different style a lot better than Digweed, but that?s for another topic, which I?m not going to start.

Carry on...

it is strange to be any type of artist. esp. when you have a large passion for what you do and set really high expectations. some times you hit this phase called "burned out", for some reason when a artist hits that phase can be very destructive. it is the internal desire to break though ... we have this phrase "what we touch turns into gold" and sometimes there is a long lost streak that never seems to dry or even never seems to be right. as an artist you must continue. it happens to anyone that is pure and has their heart in the right place. you can ask most artists.

a great thing "they" (digweed, sasha, etc) can not do is take a break. step away and reflect. it is as important as the creation itself. to think. to reflect.

final answer.

Now you got me curious.

Well, that was what he stated in an advertisement for Allen & Heath, there was a bunch of other stuff, like his favourite movie, which is Blade Runner, for example.

#460236Post 54 of 86

I genuinely think dj's like sasha and digweed analyse the music as much as we do, and as much as we think they do.

I sincerely believe sasha etc hear a tune and think 'thats a good tune, i'll play that out for a few weeks'.

I dont think they are trying to find the new sound etc I think the producers are responsible for that - after all they are the ones that dictate what is available to play, not the dj.

p.s - thought digweeds last 2 sets have been very good - the 1st track this week and track 6 are brilliant

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

I was at the Pawnshop gig and it was one of the best club night's I have ever been to. It was probably the first time in seven live sets that I thought I got the full Digweed experience.

I may be wrong, but I think I'm pretty accurate by saying that this is most likely within this first hour of the set. Now as I said before, I hope we get to hear more of it, because then you'll hear how this hour sets the tone for some really dirty, driving sh!t that totally blew all of us away. It's all about direction within the whole, and this set definitely went somewhere from this hour right till the end. I predict that if we get it all, you'll look back at this hour and say "ah i get it now." That's what makes DJs like John Digweed - the best, whether his sound is your style or not. And for the record, most often Digweed doesn't spin what I'm most into.

Making harsh comments on one-fifth of an entire set is totally ridiculous. You say he's playing sh!t, I say your full of it.

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

i was there and this is kinda early in his set. the night was stellar but the sound at that club was a little harsh. like i said before i remember about 4 o'clock in the morning the bombs started dropping.

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

i find this part of the set fckingcredible... anyone knows where to find the rest of the set? anyone has it on slsk maybe?

#460803Post 59 of 86

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

i was occasionally getting chillz from that set. there were some parts of that mix that sounded like the old bedrock. :)

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

is anyone else having problems downloading the kiss sets this week?

everytime I try the usual window pops up, but with no text in it, and doesn't download. any ideas why? I would love to hear these two sets.

#460989Post 62 of 86

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

this was his first hour of the set. the first track on the recording is actually the first track that he started with, which is FAFA MONTECA PRESENTS LOUDEAST 'REDLIGHT' ON HYPNOTIC FRANCE. when i was there i thought the first hour was ok, but soon after bombs started to drop. by 4am shit hit the fan

Exactly, Finally somebody that was there agrees that the first hour he played on the kiss show was only "OK" ,

I know most of you are satisfied with this one hour set but come on guys...he coulda picked another hour to play with a few bombs, especially after putting up with the boring ass electro crap he always plays now week after week after week...

#461006Post 64 of 86

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

i think the reason that he chose this hour was either that (a) he plans on playing the other parts too or that (b) the other parts contain mostly unsigned stuff that he doesn't want to broadcast

I hope your right...

I am bought tired of that excuse....they have voiceovers all over the set...it isnt like somebody is going to try and play it out.
Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

true. but all it takes is a track id and people will go on soulseek. and since most tracks have a tendency to leak, someone will have it.

#461199Post 67 of 86

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

See now this is why i questioned the authenticy of the Budapest set.....

The first hr was like a kiss mix.

In 4+ hrs Digweed will eventually dig deep and bring out the nukes. Not give us a shady version of 'how was ur evening so far' and that other old track pushing too hard.

Fabric feb '05 set......i think this was the fabled recording u talk/dream about chuck. Bit of a shitter when christmas has come and gone and you dont even realise :(

A lot of the live diggers sets that I have are all early hour stuff. Diggers is notorious for trying to weed out the crowd so only the diehards remain for the onslaught. He also doesn't want his peak stuff being out there. He, and other DJs as well, want you to show up at the gigs and experience the sound on his terms.

Last time he was in SF, the first two hours, while decent, weren't groundbreaking. However, he did lure Joe Average Clubber and Jane Partygirl into the darkness that followed. It was mad.

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

Good luck hearing the rest of this, I'm still waiting to hear the rest of the 7/3/02 set from Centro Fly

"i'll try to play some more of this..." that's right there with "I really do read all the email"

#462211Post 72 of 86

kobe - i genuinely believe he reads all the e-mails - i've collared him many a time at bedrock in london and he assures me he does read them, just obviously cannot reply. He has replied to me in the past though!

Imagine he doesnt check his e-mail for one month - think how many he has - although I would imagine it passes the time on a long-haul flight

Re: KISS 100 8-6-05

what the f*ck is wrong with me anymore...First time I heard this set i didnt like it ....then i tried to listen again...adn i liked it a little more...then listened again and i really think it is quite good..

maybe it jsut takes time for me to get used to these newer soudns and this electro style....who the hell knows....It must take time to soak in this stuff b4 u finally "get it"

theres not too many others from that night. just a couple with me and my freinds and you don't want to see our ugly mugs.

it got to a point that night where operating a camera became too tricky.

funny enough, in that last photo there with the 2 guys watching digweed spinning while leaning on the glass, the one in the black shirt dead center is derek howell. He just stood there and watched him in awe practically the entire night.
