Re: do not consent to being searched

I've been thinking about this a little more, is a bag check really going to stop a would-be bomber?

Obviously it is intended as a deterrent, but think about this: is someone who is ready to die all that worried about getting busted? Let's say the cops roll up on an actual suicide bomber in the midst of his plan, he will just trigger the device at that time and be done with it.

So how did the bag check actually make anyone safer?

Re: do not consent to being searched

actually we are safer with the searches, because rather than making it onto a subway train or into an airport and killing dozens or hundreds, they are cut off at the pass.a yes you must realize that if it happens and they kill a cop or fed, many more lives have been saved.

god I wish these things would happen to the people who fight these things.

Re: do not consent to being searched

I think the answer to this above asked / poll question is simple...Yes, you consent to be searched and no, it does not infringe upon your rights. Why should you not consent to being searched if you do not have anything to hide. Actually, I would feel a little safer knowing that people are being randomly searched and in these days and times I think it makes a great deal of sense. The question I think Daveman is getting at is..How Paranoid Are You? If you are carrying something that you should be, then, hell no, you do not consent to being searched. And if thats the case, keep your ass of the subway!

Well then, I certainly hope you don't end up disappointed :?:  :|

Where are they searching the bags, outside on the street, or inside the station/on the train? Either way, I don't see a whole lot of difference, if they are searching people it is probably in a crowded place, and if it's a crowded place and something happens, people are going to get hurt either way.

I'm in favor of methods for stopping terror, as long as they are effective and not just symbolic. The symbolic ones can be more dangerous because they give a false sense of security. If we are busy jerking off searching handbags at the bus stop and sniffing shoes at the airport while the terrorists stike again, they they have succeeded two fold- they have both attacked us, and forced us to destroy our own way of life.

Re: do not consent to being searched

as an answer to where are these searches are taking place....

yes it is in the subways just before you enter past the turnstyle. very busy very public places. in NJ for example searches are done just outside the train stops heading toward the city.

there has been an insentive added by the transit authority and the city of NY. if you are searched you can get a free ride on the subway. sounds good, but most of the people asked about it on the news the other night were more upset with people getting free rides than people getting searched. the cost of the subway has gone up by a little recently and people are getting upset that people will ride for free. people feel that it will be abused by people with large bags everyday, and that the costs will push the cost of the subway up again.

i feel that the searches are more or less pointless, and now that people know how they work you can work around it. the point of the searches in my mind is to give the illusion that all is being done to twart future terrorist acts. it makes people feel safer and gives people a sence of being patriotic after they come out of the line clean. i can't help but look at it as another way the goverment is testing the water of what people will tolerate. our freedom comes as a right to refuse. just leave that station and walk the 150 feet to the next one. afterall not all of them are being checked the cost of screening all the sub stops and trains coming in and out of NYC is way to much. expecially after W and the boys decided that states like Wyoming (nothing against wyoming) needs as much security money as NY. who will cover the costs. you will in your taxes, now thats patriotism.
