Looking forward to seeing how it works in short rations during next week's walks to work and back.
Probably well but it really doesn't make any justice... at least one straight listen should be obligatory lol

Each mix is way better than it sounds as a whole, no doubt of it.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal
Argentina is really great, Miami is OK, but Slovenia is really in an acquired taste. I bet it sounded great at the venue but, not really suited for home listening. Too monotonously banging.
Slovenia is great imho, one of the best techno mixes from the last 10 years imho, especially cd2. the last third is just pure vortex if you ask me.... Miami is awesome too, it really builds well and has a nice progression until when the classics on cd3 drop

Toronto is by far the weakest of the series if you ask me - cd3 is just dull imho

#1761072Post 126 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Definitely agree with the last 20-30mins of slovenia cd2 being fantastic (and the opening josh wink fucked up track too). Definitely the hardest he's played on the "live in" comps (and i hope for a bit more of it too).

up to mid way cd3 .. its all so .. controlled.. and yet I bet the crowd was moving quite a bit by now

#1761078Post 129 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I'm also up to CD 3 and loving it so far. I want to turn the lights out and sit here for a few more hours to the end of CD 6 (but I can't). It's going to be hard to find time to give this a solid listen through.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I've managed to get through 4 of the 6 cds. I had to listen to the first cd a second time because it put me to sleep. Overall great mix, but I find cd1 to be a bit too droning for my tastes. Maybe because the other entries in the series have been straight to the heart of the set.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

It's great when you hear what you expect, and even more, I Expected a liitle of deep in the beggining but the first 2 cds are pure quality, full of groove, melodies, low bpm, I really enjoy that side, I love the first two, I would like to hear more often this kind of stuff from john,

to be continue........

mine is numbered 0306.. what a journey this release is.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I need to go up to stereo.. completely missed the twilo era, so this would be it for me I guess. Sounds like the crowd was up to the task that night.. I though he played a slow build up at the vagabond, but this is on another level

#1761188Post 148 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

anyone else notice the obvious typo on Page 2, top left.. "25/Oct 2016" not 2015.. lol. seems like there is a typo on every release somewhere :)

really? i couldn't really get into this - maybe its a grower

also the volume / mastering whatever feels different than the other volumes.....any explanation?!

#1761279Post 157 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

yeah it doesn't have the chunk chunk that some of the other ones have, it's less of a live sound to my ears. like transitions 600 have got the thumpy live bass that this one doesn't.

this one goes up and down, but disc 5 from about 50 minutes through the first 30 of disc 6. damn

CD6 is a complete mess imho.....he lost me after the emerald remix. same with toronto CD3.... dunno.

@ regarding the recording quality: south beach had kinda low volume as well - compared to the previous ones.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I drove for 14 hours last Friday to hear Digweed live and had plenty of time to listen to Montreal carefully twice and to be perfectly frank there's nothing special about this imho. Just a handful of notable tracks out as many as of 80? Tigerskin, Simon Garcia, Scan Mode, two brilliant tracks from Eagels & Butterflies and one from my Polish folks Catz'n Dogz to be remembered. Everything else might be possibly played by every other skullful dj. The mix is too clean, hygienic, too slow, has no vibe and the first 4CDs are dispensable perhaps except for holiday beach inertia. It's a harsh opinion but take a look at Transitions 600 - no doubt it is Digweed. Btw Friday's gig was amazing, pure happiness and vigour.
