I'm the same as you, CDs are just computer data, there's no point in buying a useless physical support, it's obsolete.

But this is one of those cases where you HAVE TO BUY IT! :)

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I've bought into the hype. Digweed was good in Bucharest a few weeks ago. So I have made the purchase. This is the first one since London that I have bought.

SimonR and Hanu sign most of them on John's behalf. The rest are done by computer. Trufax.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

It's probably Simon doing all the work :).

#1760874Post 88 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Expect Simon to don trumpet and blow dedication Roy Castle style, while Homegrove watches.

Nice packaging reminiscent of the Cream / Renaissance days. The last physical copies of music I bought were Miami and Slovenia, was gonna pass on accumulating more physical media but hard to pass on this. I never play them anyway. Urgh.

#1760888Post 91 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Digweed's 'Live In' series and any UNKLE release are the only CD's I buy anymore.. mainly because of the packaging. honorable mention to The Orb/High Frequency Bandwidth - HFB, probably the best packaging i have ever seen.

like others here, i rip them to my computer and never touch them again. but there is still something about owning the release, especially when its kind of limited :)

Another 2 hours from Montreal?

#1760976Post 104 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I am trying to extract the files into FLAC with Exact Audio Copy but for some reason its not able to pick up the cd tag information track name artist ect. Kind of stinks because none of the tracks will be coded and will show up with no info on my mp3 player.

anyone know why this would happen.

Got it today, digital copy... and im just listening the whole thing nonstop, will see how it goes... First one going well this far 8)

-------- Edit

  • Lovely selection and vibe on the first one, flowing perfectly into second one.. loving it so far!

  • Just finishing mix 2.. how he is building things up is ridiculous, maybe one or two meh tracks but super great stuff so far.. 10/10 :)

  • Mix 3 done.. near the end it looks like he's getting his stride  ..Some gentle deep and groovy sounds with impeccable flow ... Can't say it is better than expected just because its what i expect from this kind of Diggers..Strong 10/10 for me

  • Mix 4 ... By now some darky solid sounds are coming through gently here and there but following progressively the vibes of this (so far) melodic journey so they are fairly welcome.. Fully home listening friendly, which is very nice. I would be happy with these sounds in the venue as well.

  • Mix 5 .. Things are getting pretty serious, keeping it tight but fresh.. Classy up and down, some tracks are well known pearls that are meant to be part of this... They fit so well... Seems like no vortex on the near future but things looks ok, no hurry (?) ...not for me, i love what is going on. Still good for home listening

  • Ok with the last one.. definitely worth to buy, that is all i can say. So easy to listen... Even considering there is a lot of class music everything indicates that something more is about to happen..

At first listen i can tell this will be kinda epic... Listening straight the whole thing is the best way to do it.

respect, for me it is 10/10

Cats are fed, it's just past three PM, I'm home from work (booked an early shift for this Friday wayyyy ahead), food is soon ready, beers are cooling in the fridge, some snacks for later bought, a new book set aside to be read while this plays.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Got my copy today. The only other I have is London. Then I noticed that you can get Miami, Slovenia and Argentina all for £15. What's a girl to do?

#1761001Post 114 of 256

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Argentina is really great, Miami is OK, but Slovenia is really in an acquired taste. I bet it sounded great at the venue but, not really suited for home listening. Too monotonously banging.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

I dont know how anyone could say anything negative about this release. really a great listen. i loved it. and as others said it is better to listen all the way through if you have 8 spare hours lol.

glad there is a bunch of the warm up stuff too as I really enjoy that style from him.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Montreal

Yeah, listened it through in one sitting last night. The only time I can see myself doing that again is in a long car drive. It's a fantastic mix though. Looking forward to seeing how it works in short rations during next week's walks to work and back.
