I recently saw that "both members of the recently defunct duo Deep Dish will be performing together" at such and such a date. Is there any truth to the fact that Deep Dish has parted ways?

Re: Deep Dish split

they played together a few weeks ago in toronto. they spun for over eight hours, so all seemed good in terms of their partnership. i don't think they've ever really gotten along as buddies, but as business partners they are obviously pretty successful.

as a rebutle to them sucking, i disagree when it comes to Ali. he is top notch. his first two hours at the guvy last month was fantastic and everything he laid down at the global underground party was world-class. his on days definitely out number his off days imo.

however, i have to agree when it comes to Sharam. it's been almost 5 years since i heard him put together anything i've really enjoyed (but on that night at the kool haus he was super sick). i wish he'd just put his record's away and use Ali's music. it boggles my mind that he plays what he does, knowing that Ali has great beats sitting right beside him. maybe that points to the fact they really don't get along.

#430368Post 11 of 54

You pretty much summed it up. When I saw them late last year Ali definitely put together a better mix (for my tastes) than Sharam. The night as a whole though was pretty awesome.

#430373Post 12 of 54

Re: Deep Dish split

They hardly ever spin together as Deep dish anyway, so them breaking up would mean next to jack. As for them sucking, well Sharam has definitely fallen off in recent years. It's almost like he is playing a joke on everyone, seeing how lame of music he can spin and still get a reaction. I was a the same show ska is talking about and yes, Ali was much better. Sucks, Sharam used to be one of my favorites. I saw just him at Icon like 4 years and he shredded that dance floor. It seems he just doesn't want to anymore.

Re: Deep Dish split

But I have to say, I like that there both different. For me, it adds another element to their music. Heres a quote from Ali about his differences with Sharam,

But while Deep Dish are perceived as a unit, their personalities are distinct. "We couldn't be more different than one another," Ali insists. "When we first met, we were just complete opposites - and that's been one of the main reasons why we've been so successful. I mean, if he had my personality and my musical taste and my way of doing things, and vice versa, it just would not have worked out. It's that tension that has always existed between our music, and sometimes that tension has been volatile and sometimes it's been mild, but I think it's that tension and that attitude that made us who we are today.

"Sharam has a very unorthodox approach to not only appreciating music but also to making music and I come from a more musical background where I played in bands and I play instruments and things like that, so he has a way of looking at things from a different perspective - and that's always healthy. So I think it's a combination of all those things that's really been instrumental in us achieving this kind of success and acclaim."

Re: Deep Dish split

I'm slightyl confused...............

I reckon over ten years I been clubbing I've probably seen DD spin about 10 times and every single time its been as a DUO, so to me its the opposite way around, they spin the odd set seperately

Re: Deep Dish split

if you don't like deep dish, thats your own personal choice, i can respect that. to say they don't have talent or are overrated is ignorant. they've accomplished more than most edm artists can admit to.

i've seen ali play twice now. he's always been top notch.

another fanatic...............

everytime i've seen them, they have been amazing...last time they were in vegas i walked out on sharam because he played absolute garbage... but my understanding is that he redeemed himself this memorial day weekend ..they palyed for 5.5 hours and only dropped 2 remixes ... of course i missed it  .... but DD has always been top 10 for me... ali has been stealing the spotlight from sharam as of late though

Re: Deep Dish split

I saw them not too long ago at the house od blues in orlando. I thought the whole night was good! There were a few songs I could have done without, but the set as a whole was good. As for them being sell outs, I don't think that is the case at all, but I don't really keep up with them on a weekly basis either.

Yep. Just cause you don't like what they are spinning as of late does not mean they are all of a sudden devoid of the talent that made you like them in the first place. I don't like the direction Sharam has gone, but that doesn't mean see "sucks." It means I don't like his style...big difference.

Deep Dish are fucking incredible, always rocked the house when i've seen them and their contribution to dance music in general is hard to match, top drawer imo.

Re: Deep Dish split

Ohh dear are DD the latest act to get a backlash!!!!Why is it that people always have something to moan at.It was Seaman a while back, now its DD!

They are legends IMO.Cant think of any(if any) artists that have contributed as much as they have to the house/progressive scene.Their mix of De Lacy-Hideaway is an all-time classic.

Their CD's are consistently good also.I loved Gu25 despite everyone moaning about it.Moscow was average but still better than the boring stuff so-called 'up and coming dj's 'are churning out.

#430651Post 31 of 54

Re: Deep Dish split

I've seen them about 5 or 6 times last time for the new year and have to say they're going down in my book. They were great when Moskow came out but now

i've seen deep dish 3 times at space in miami and everytime they bring the house down. its un-believe-able what they can do to that club.......especially the old space......anybody remember the old space with the two flat panel screens to the right and to the left of the mothership dj both :CandyPop:

12 Jun 2005 Sydney, Australia Hordern Pavillion

Sunday night from 8pm. Going to be front row center. Lets hope they haven't sold out too much, or i'm going to be pissed.

#430750Post 34 of 54

Re: Deep Dish split

To be honest, I like Deep Dish as well.

Their cd's and remixes are classics and live they're way above average I would say. In October (amsterdam dance event) en April (Queensday) Sharam played in Panama, Amsterdam. Both nights were sold out and I haven't heard anyone who was not enthousiastic about his performance...

All-in-all: yeah it's probably a matter of taste, but they def. are talented and have contributed enormously to the dance scene
