Re: Nick Warren GU028
The tracklisting actually makes me want to buy this...I wasn?t too excited when news came through that Nick was doing another GU...I think it should be refreshing, looking at those tracks.
He?s gonna play here tonight, but I can?t fucking go...I?m moving house and today is one of the few days where I can get some help to move the heavier stuff. Meaning, I?ll be lugging furniture about while Nick Warren plays...shit...
Re: Nick Warren GU028

Re: Nick Warren GU028
mixu - just out of interest what is the mixing and programming like?Is it similar to his last GU (ie very well done and programmed) or more 'live' i.e similar to budapest
I hope it's a good one. Last few releases from GU were crap.
I think Howells' Miami is amazing.
Re: Nick Warren GU028
Nick has never disappointed me, I don't see this being any exception. The mixing on Amsterdam was kinda off, but you can never front on the track selection.

Sorry guys, been manic and haven't had chance to listen to it again ? flying to New Zealand this afternoon so a 25-hour flight should be long enough to give it a few listens :?
berps ? I've got a promo... but you can't have it
Re: Nick Warren GU028
06 Hardfloor - Acperience
Awesome track, but rather exceptional for a set like this. The track must be over 13 years old (somewhere in '92?) and was like a 'blueprint track' for the distorted acid house hype back in the 90'ies.
Re: Nick Warren GU028
heres the story from Big Shot Magazine
Nick Warren Offers Shanghai Surprise (Especially When He Said That He Was Through With Mix CDs) Now that China has embraced capitalism like nobody?s business, the country has become a hotbed of consumer activity with a growing middle- and upper-class. If they could get along with Japan, sort out their trade disputes?.
China?s southern port city Shanghai is not only a prime example of China?s renaissance, it?s also the influence for Nick Warren?s forthcoming Shanghai double-mix CD for Global Underground. Er, wasn?t GU024 Rekjavik supposed to be Warren?s swan song mix compilation? Yeah, we thought that was a bit strange, too.
While the CD wasn?t mixed in Shanghai and doesn?t contain contributions from any Chinese artists, Warren?s sixth release for the label contains contributions from producers based all over the world, including James Holden, Starecase, Lustral, Chimera, and of course, Way Out West. Warren says his CD (which includes Hardfloor?s classic ?Acperience?) is inspired by Shangai?s robust economy, a non-stop housing boom, and its thriving club scene.
?I wanted to showcase as many young producers as I could. Find tracks that were unsigned and give them a platform,? says Warren, who is also one-half of Way Out West and did a stint as a support DJ for Massive Attack. ?Record labels don?t give young producers the time to go and make an album, so it?s hard for them to get their music heard.?
Shanghai will be released on July 12.
Re: Nick Warren GU028
Can't wait to get this. He's one of the most consistent DJ's period.

i ain't gonna lie... I'm pretty damn excited... tracklisting looks sweet and Nick Warren always exceeds expectations... Howell's 027 is pretty amazing so Nick has a lot to top
Re: Nick Warren GU028
I'm looking forward to it. Warren's GU's are usually good. I'm just glad we didn't get another Dave Seamen or Deep Dish.
Re: Nick Warren GU028
Definitely going to pick this one up...I have loved all of his GU's...especially his last.
Peace, Steve

Yeah, instead we get a 6th Nick Warren. I'm sure it will rule, but seriously...enough already.
Re: Nick Warren GU028
I am looking sooooo forward to this. haven't bought a GU since Toronto(which was ok  ) the last one was good, the Danny Howells one I mean, but this is going to rock. i love nick and his sets, live or studio always kick ass. Glad he came back for another...... :D 8)
Re: Nick Warren GU028
Finally...
Not quite the eclectic Nick Warren I was expecting, although I'm embarassed to say I've not heard any of his other GU mixes. Having said that, it's typical of GU ? slick, sophisticated and polished. Kicking off with the dreamy breaks of SJ Esau's 'Fat Cat Track' the first CD sticks with a floaty, melodic feel building and building until it hits a progressive peak culminating with the throbbing sub bass of Yvel & Tristan's 'Pillow'. Lustral's soaring, anthemic 'Solace' completes part one, hinting at the shift in gear the second CD takes. Starting again with floaty breaks it doesn't take long before the thrashing 'fly' guitars of Morozov kicks in, Warren's not messing around now as there's a different energy now. The glorious, driving sounds of Holden & Thompson's 'Come To Me' resonates (anyone for indie-progressive?) before Hardfloor's genre-defining acid-trance assault of 'Acperience' sets in. The tempo is then sustained leading in to the sonic techno melodies of Derek Howell's 'Your Touch'. It doesn't quite hit the highs of some of the classic GU mixes but definitely maintains the usually high and consistent standards. Probably one of my favourites of recent times...
