Re: fundacion is boring.
what "shitty vocals" are you referring to Michael? surely not the Beanfield track? a quality vocal if ever i heard one.....
Sorry, ---I guess its just me. I'm not saying its a bad track,---I love the track now that I am giving it another listen. I guess its just a combination of 1.) if I were a dj, that particular vocal wouldn't fit anywhere into what I am doing right now within my own style (the song would, just not the overlaying vocal), so that's just my bias--I'm a picky bastard, sorry!! Naturally, I'm my own favorite DJ in the world, so my presuppositions and preferences are what they are. --but more importantly-- 2. Its not that its a bad track, its just that if you played that track out of context, I would never guess in a million years that Sasha would be the one dropping it, especially on a "GU" cd---in my opinion, it seemed out of character for him. To me, it doesn't sound like a Sasha track, where on Involver, he did something different, had great vocals, and still managed to keep the 'Sasha' sound. I guess that's all. Please don't get me wrong though, Sasha has been, and for the foreseeable future is my pick for best DJ in the world hands down. That is until I come around!!!!

I can see birneys point, i wasn;t too keen but after hearing ASDF banging on about it, i gave the CD a few more listens and fook me is it good. I've listened to it drunk and sober and it really has grown on me in a dramatic way. Top CD IMO, made me want to be back in fabric, despite the sardine dance floor.

Btw, Mikey buoy, your weekend mix fooking rocks, had it on repeat most of last night and again this afternoon. SWEET!

apparently Sasha has re-edited the Carl Craig mix for his own use, toughened up the beats i believe, i read this in an interview somewhere.

ableton is all about re-editing and toughening up, lol... but what concerns me is this...

what were you doing "reading" (as you call it) in the first place?

#435286Post 174 of 192

Re: fundacion is boring.

It was in a magazine article in IDJ Magazine, he was just babbling about how he constructed the album.

Ableton Live is about much more than that btw

btw, what word do use instead of "reading"? :?

i was fucking with you, and I know ableton... quite well at this point, i try not to let a day go by without a few hours of ableton (even without a maven and just an maudio instead)

Yes, me too squire, in fact i just purchased some VST plugins (wave package) been getting some superb effects from them. Are you making music or being a DJ? would be interesting to find out how others are using it, i'm not sure how proficient i am with it as i haven't traded talk with anyone else on the matter, but i think i'm getting on ok, well, i'm having fun and thats whats important i think. :P

...oooh, are you saying you are using an external controller with it? i tried to use a Hercules DJ console but it wont identify as a midi plugin, maybe it's just a shit controller, i dunno.

That is some serious dissection righ there.

Seriously though, tell us how you really like it.

#435347Post 179 of 192

Re: fundacion is boring.
but I haven't listened to the album enough yet to specifically pick out the vocal tracks I didn't like. I only remember fast-forwarding through a couple of tracks the moment I heard the vocals drop that I disagreed with.
it hink this entire thread has established that, in order to make an accurate review of the album, you would have to listen to the entire album at least 2 or 3 times (per day in my case). Then and only then i believe you will be able to catch the entire vibe and placement of tracks, beats, and effects. therefore listening to part of the cd and fast forwarding tracks will do an injustice to the album which i will not fuckin forget...

glad to see michael came back to his senses and gave it another listen or 2, and hopefully by now he's addicted to it.

i really like the whole set. i wrote up a really critical review on all the tracks in this thread. i do not think it is Sasha's best, but it is a keeper. It grows on you, and it really does. I also like how Sasha is breaking the "true" progressive barrier.

It's a real shift the Ableton to non-vinyl sound. A little more ruff, but yet a lot more impacting. I hope does more.

Re: fundacion is boring.

I've kept out of this thread because they are usually a mess. Anyway, as seems to be the case with most....

1st listen - 2 weeks ago : bored/unimpressed

2nd listen - monday : intrigued still not sure

3rd listen - yesterday : hmmm better

4th/5th/6th/7th listen - today : God Damn.

Any album that grows on me like this is fucking platinum. The last 20minutes definitely seal the deal for me. Which is a direction that I'm guessing he's going to further delve into here in his next reinvention. :Bingo:

Totally agree, man. I liked it on first listen and it's only gotten better since.

Re: fundacion is boring.

So far I've heard it once... I agree the introduction sucks way too much... perhaps they can take it out from the final version.

The mix was split into tracks so when I listened to it in my ipod I had problems appreciating the transition from one to the other... I'm merging them so that I can give it a second shot... will get back soon

Re: fundacion is boring.

I bought the retail CD today and it is identical to the promo (minus the GU voiceovers)

#435937Post 189 of 192

Re: fundacion is boring.

Damn, I was hoping that lame-ass intro was taken out of the retail.

Is it a seperate track so I can at least not rip it?

#435962Post 190 of 192

Re: fundacion is boring.

I was in two minds as to whether i should buy this or not, but when there is a 13 page topic on a CD before it is released it kinda sparks some interest. I am quite looking forward to my 5th listen or whatever when the mix really shines. To be honest Involver is still growing on me, there is no doubt the man has talent, but when he has the same loop playing for 1/3 of a 2 hour set it makes me wonder if maybe he is going a bit senile in his old age :P

Re: fundacion is boring.

Listened to it twice yesterday, and its good, will definitely grow even more on me as well. Some of the tracks are confusing as they are only a minute long and its hard to tell where the transitions are, but top tracks are 3,4,7,9,10,12 and 13
