wonder it this will be worth buying, I am a huge fan and planned on buying it in advance until i saw the price for the vinyl. 2 albums 48 dollars. You think they could cut there fans a bit of a break on the prices. its not like the are not rich beyond belief.

Re: New Pink Floyd Album - The Endless River

You are such a whinger about price. All these artists give us far more than we can ever give them :) Why do fans deserve a break??? We are fans because they do something we like , and we drop them as soon as they do something we don't like .

If we like we buy it or not. ;)

If you don't think it is worth what they want , just say that and don't buy it. But don't ask them for discounts , it's sort of insulting

CDs sound better to me + are cheaper. Love my old album collection, but all the new ones I've bought $48+ skip & sound bad, not worth the $. imo (& I really wanted to like them) couldn't ever take a flame to a CD

Didn't even bother selling them- threw most of them out when I moved. It's a completely outdated and worthless medium for music these days. I mean think about it- companies take the exact digital file you can buy, then transfer/burn it on a piece of shit plastic disc so another old computer or outdated device can then read it with a laser so you can hear it again. Department of redundancy department. lol.

Just pre-ordered this on amazon.....woo.

I wish CD prices all didn't go to shit. Don't bother selling any of them really, unless you want to make like .25c/hr for your time. 99% of it no one will buy, or for pennies on the dollar.

Better to just keep them if you like them and enjoy sorting thru your collection when you want to listen to something at home at night.

"Some people have been asking Laurie, my wife, about a new album I have coming out in November," Waters wrote. "Errhh? I don't have an album coming out, they are probably confused. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have an album coming out. It's called Endless River. David and Nick constitute the group Pink Floyd. I on the other hand, am not part of Pink Floyd. I left Pink Floyd in 1985, that's 29 years ago. Waters lost his lawsuit over the band name in 1987, and that same year the band issuedA Momentary Lapse of Reason. In recent years, Waters has revisited his Pink Floyd past. On July 2nd, 2005, Waters, Mason, Gilmour and keyboardist Rick Wright performed together as Pink Floyd for the first time in nearly a quarter century at the Live 8 concert at London's Hyde park. "It was really nice to be part of it and to show support for Roger, not that he really needs it," Mason told Rolling Stone after their 2011 reunion. "I suppose it's nice to have Roger wanting to register David and myself as part of it, in a way. It was a mutual thing: it was nice to be recognized but also very nice to lend support to Roger and make it clear that we're not punching it out in these auditoriums. We're not critical of him doing it."

In 2013, Waters told the BBC he regretted his lawsuit over the band name. "I was wrong," he said. "Of course I was. Who cares?" In the same Facebook note, Waters also criticized the role of some countries in the Israel-Palestine conflict. "On another subject, my recent trip to Bruxelles was very moving," he wrote. "To listen to the testimony of some of those present in Gaza during the euphemistically named Operation Protective Edge, July and August 2014 was deeply disturbing. I am still non plussed by the acquiescence of the governments of the USA, UK and EU to the policies of the current Israeli administration. Should we encourage our leaders to sue for a peaceful solution or not?"

The Endless River – which does not feature Waters – will come out on November 10th. The band decided to put out the record after discovering recordings they had made with Wright, who died in 2008, during the sessions for The Division Bell. "We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album," Gilmour said in a statement. "Over the last year we've added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire."

Meh. Who cares.

I actually really like The Division Bell, without Waters. David Gilmour is great, so I could give a shit if Waters is involved with the new cd or not.

Calm down and do some other stuff.

How do you think music gets on an "original CD" (funny term in itself)....it's recorded from a digital file. You've either got crappy versions of digital files, or your ears have dirt in them...probably not a lot of dirt, but ya know, enough to muffle your audio judgement. Q-tips?

I get that some people like the packaging, want to read liner notes, want to have a physical piece for a collection- it's not for me, but I understand that logic, but I can't even entertain the idea that "compact discs are of higher audio quality" than the files that are used to make them in the first place. lol.

Re: New Pink Floyd Album - The Endless River

Also music from CD's is technically sampled from analog, thus taking parts of the original waveform and approximating them. But all of this is done higher than the human ear can hear so it technically doesn't make a difference. The 44.1kHz sampling rate is actually a pretty cool story related to the Nyquist Theroem:
Firstly, because the hearing range of human ears is roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, and via the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem the sampling frequency must be greater than twice the maximum frequency one wishes to reproduce, the sampling rate therefore had to be greater than 40 kHz.

In addition to this, signals must be low-pass filtered before sampling, otherwise aliasing occurs, and, while an ideal low-pass filter would perfectly pass frequencies below 20 kHz (without attenuating them) and perfectly cut off frequencies above 20 kHz, in practice a transition band is necessary, where frequencies are partly attenuated. The wider this transition band is, the easier and more economical it is to make an anti-aliasing filter. The 44.1 kHz sampling frequency allows for a 2.05 kHz transition band.
Also there are file formats out there that are exact reproductions of CD data. WAV and FLAC are both lossless for example and are exactly the same data as on the disc.

Re: New Pink Floyd Album - The Endless River

^^ hmmm, interesting info & opinions. thanks

I have ruptured my eardrums more than once, so ya... there's that Jenks 8)

There are times when music is preferred streaming through my earphones & other times when I like the room filled with it (like for creativity) and, of course, either way wanting to hear it in it's entirety so that my being (human as it is) is somehow "moved," which for me is mostly through earphones ............ was just saying for convenience sake, CD sound is preferred in my somewhat limited scope/experience to fill a room or car, digital (mp3, wav, flac) to fill my ears, not that I prefer CD for it's cool packaging, although, there is something to that I admit. :p

Being a female, if a song resonates with me, it's on repeat, repeat, repeat, meditated on for at least a day or so........ wish SC had a button so a song could be constantly replayed. Any format would do well with women if it had an endless repeat loop available so we didn't have to keep pressing a button to repeat it. [more a comment for the SC/mixcloud thread, I know.]

Love that clip of the Endless River !! will prob have to buy that CD!

FLAC is great, I use it a lot. But it has some very little clicking noise with the peaks. I could only detect them in very good audio equipment. Anyways, it doesn´t bother, it´s way better than mp3.

Love the information mate.... especially since I was referring to the digital files that we buy from beatport or iTunes or where ever else one acquires mp3's from now a days.... that end up on our iPod's/phones or hi-fi players at home. Lower bit-rate files that almost everyone settles for including myself.

So yea..... I'll still take my CD and liner notes over digital downloads...ta :)

CDs are made from digital files. I recently bought a portable music player that supports these sample rates. : 16-bit, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192kHz .16/24-bit, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96kHz (TosLink) , whatever Toslink is :) So it supports digital files far greater than cd quality. Most unfortunately the range is very limited and for me in Australia I can't even buy those :) I would still love my Cds though. :)
