Re: if not digweed, then who?
As for your news flash shit, it wasn't funny when you did it, and I did it back to you in the hope that you'd maybe get what is actually been discussed in this thread.

Wow, you must really have something else going on to even concider that statement was made with any kind of seriousness.
Here ya go, man...in case you missed it. This clears up the "it was funny when I did it..." issue. Just so you can sleep better at night. And just for the record I hardly, if ever, use private messages, and certainly no one is sending me any telling me how funny I am.
but I really want to decide if you are a good one, or "other" before I go any further with this relationship... let me know
And this...I don't even know what to make of this. A good one? An other? Our realtionship?

Actually, you remind me alot of how I was when I first came around here. Anytime someone would disagree with anything I said I would go off on these rants for pages and pages, filling each post up with as many words as I could to get my point across. I don't do that anymore, you know why...because it's pointless. No I don't want to "play this game" and I'm glad you're really good at it. I hope it does you well in life. 8)

As for our relationship, i was meaning more along the lines of nemisis or ally, I don't think we should date... no offense, just I dont think much at all today, James Holden was great last night... so there's that one... I am glad you dont want to play this game, but in my self deprication end of last post I acknowledged that being good at the game accomplishes jack shit, but its hella fun to have friends (even real life ones) to be retarded with, fake fight with, basically... have fun with.... I must say that i dont think writing lengthy posts with details as to why I feel a certain way is pointless, as I end up getting in touch with a lot of parts of myself and ideas that I wouldnt otherwise have been so specific on why I love things so much.... If you dont feel passion for things in life (not saying u don't, mind u) I dont see a reason to go on (like, not end it all... but find your passion ASAP) I know what mine are, and bam.... I give a reply with too much info... but fuck it, its not like you couldn't just not read it.... so if u read this far cool, if not you'll never be the lesser without those last few sentances. and last, but not least... Hi, I am Mike, but everyone already knows that.... by everyone I mean nothing but overtired babble and ...... nap soon

Nemesis?? Ally?? How about "nameless, faceless person on an Internet messageboard??" You take this shit a little too seriously dude. I am extemely pasionate about alot of things, I just don't start ripping into someone that says something I don't agree with to express it.

End of conversation.

Dude, I am so sarcastic and dry and ask anyone who knows me, seriously is not a word used to describe anything about me other than passion and sincerity at the root of who I am....

If through the lack of talking and having to type, and whatever else it hasnt been apparent, the superhero references were a parody of those who do take this a little too seriously... and I thought I had apologized and called myself mid post on how you proved wrong what I was saying originally about you.....

in as few words as possible...

One post you wrote bugged the shit out of me, but then I read the others and realized I had the wrong idea goin on, and got creative and wordy with my apology, and it resulted in my true message not getting across to you (so I am clarifying things here and now cause you have the wrong idea about me and thats no fun) I tend to babble, but that will never change, so sorry for any confusion and sorry you didn't get my retarded cryptic apology earlier, I thought we were on the same page tongue in cheek sarcasm-wise. my last post was self commentary and not about you... in re-reading it, if I thought it was written about me seriously I would think I was a crazy freak too... so no worries. umkay?

No man, really... lol, I dedicate this, my 499th post to all of us getting along... all of my personalities included. If I truly didn't have respect for your opinion I wouldn't take time to do anything (its a forum on the web, no repercussions right?) but good debate with mutual respect is key for me lately, and your one word reply just made me feel like I still haven't gotten back to being fully clear on calling myself out for jumping the gun earlier...

To other readers/members/"others"...

what is going on with the respect around this place (mainly for DJs it seems to me) or the level of integrity goin on... I can totally dig the need/want for dark dirty sets of the new persuasion, but all over the place on here it seems like it's either that or nothing.... Is it the sets that you guys are hearing online/in your home locales? Is it sucking that bad out there? Cause I've heard all these guys live lately, and I go beginning to end (give or take 2 hours out of the last 40 in club) The sets have been rockin, and if not phenomenal at worst i would call one night sasha did "bland".... but spanish translations revealed or totally disrespectful writing-off-as-has-been to artists out there...I can't dictate what or how anyone feels, but

PLEASE LOOK AT THINGS YOU SAY OR WRITE AND CONSIDER IF YOU oops

SOUND LIKE AN ASS or THINK YOU R JUSTIFIED IN TELLING THE MASTERS WHAT THEY SHOUD BE DOING AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG & THINK THEY SHOULD LISTEN TO YOU

and have the balls to respond to your own posts and redeem any merit for yourself in serioulsy loving music/artists who have blown your mind.

what I am missing.... or is it like... some of this is coming from "clubbers" who only liked that one sound and thats it, and it's not deeper than that, so it's not hypocritical or something.... HELP ME UNDERSTAND where the love might be going, if it's going going gone.... give a fag a break, i have heard so much amazing shit lately this is all so fuckin greek to me.

         dance

Danceoff? no problem, I got this one in the bag. And I never have the desire to post or read anything when I'm not stoned, being asleep and all... you know how hard that is.

Re: if not digweed, then who?

nice topic!

... not having enough time to read the whole 7 pages of the topic i just wanted to agree that Diggers is not anymore what he used to be, and i mean not that darky!

... imo one of the dinosaurs left, almost as dark as he is (when the devil gets inside him) is Nick Warren. He has this mysterious smile and he knows that the tune he has in mind and follows is going to blow your head!

Hernan Cattaneo might be the future, or sometimes i think Satoshi is also good at darker tune selection, but none of them is like old good times of Digger! He was the pioneer :!:

I?d like to add that the latest Chris Fortier mix on Kiss100 is very dark and twisted. Well, at least it?s my kind of dark and twisted...

Hey, don?t be sorry, man, I crack up reading your posts most of the time (those long ones sometimes need too much concentration from me, though, you sound like someone who?s taken way too many drugs in your life 8) ).

I understand it?s not the "hard & dark" type, but sometimes I like darkness that creeps up on you, not bludgeons you in the head.

And yeah, that penultimate track is sick, in the psychotic sense of the word...that muffled moan...it?s like she?s being fucked with a knife while smothered with a pillow

a little dark there... nice interpretation.... :) actually, drugs aside, I've been a very good rambler all my life, much to my mother's delight and dismay I was speaking full (run-on) sentances at age 18 months apparently. In High School I was nicknamed Randy for being random (pulling topics out of "nowhere") but all that aside, toasted or not, if I hold it back it's not pretty....

and believe it or not, letting it all out has actually been MUCHO beneficial.... job/creative speaking... when you say the shit nobody else will (or would?) you at least get noticed... and as this is New York, land of the open mind (USA style), the open minded and warped alike tend to understand eachother very well...

and when I edit my rants (not out, just into separate digressions), use a word processor, and a wicked font of my liking, my writing isn't oh - so - Unibomber...

OK, on that note, I gotta go get ready for work
NEWS FLASH

The reason all of you are having such a hard time thinking of DJs playing the "dark" tracks these days is because....NO ONE IS!!!!
So not true. It has just taken pn a different form. It has taken on more of a techy, tribal or electro feel as opposed to the old dark organic sound.

guys like RPO Dave Seaman (floored me when I same him last month in Toronto with his monstrous track selection) hard and dark and dirty oh my. Chris Micali

are all producing and/or playing dark and dirty twisted prog. Sure they mix it up with other sounds but the dark beats will always be there to find. Then there are the enormous amount of new comers in production who are giving prog new life with the electro sound. If you are looking for twisted, dirty, dark and grinding beats that is where you are going to find them. With all the great new talent out there it still surprises me that we still continue to focus so much attention on the same few DJs. With all the sub genres out there you can find whatever it is you are looking for ..you just gotta source it out.

I too heart Hernan :)

Re: if not digweed, then who?

I've not seen in this thread such great Dj and producer as Gab Olivier. His sets in Sunny Club (Melburn) are the most dark catchy and atmospheric sets I've ever heard. Gab Olvier & Digby - Human EP is one of my favs. He set up his own label Zero Tolerance that specialized on dark stuff only and no longer exist. He's opened such names as Jono Fernandez and Luke Chable.

I do come over dark stuff rarely. I advise ypu to check out Nick Proteus and his project Degrees of Freedom, Smight, Habersham, Naveen G, Nikola Gala (Everything is you EP), Precision project, Kaybee, Sharon and Robertson, Brahma etc. and such labels: Cold Taps, Toes in Sand, Zero Tolerance.

Find Gab Olivier's set and enjoy this trip into the darkness.

I know what you mean, but I'm talking Digweed - Hong Kong dark...Deep Dish - Renaissance Ibiza dark. DARK dark!!!!! You know??

??????? Hong Kong is dirty, but I'd go for "not happy" as opposed to dark.... (on the darker side, but not "DARK dark!!!".... Hot and Great yes (van m / leeds MORE gets me GOOD) ..... and Deep Dish ibiza disc 2, while great, negates any amount of darkness with "the fyling song" "Gabriella - Rise" and whatever the first track was called, "pink Ciggarettes" or something close to that....

I am confused now... is it this specific sound you are missing these days, or something like Nothern exposure South and Westcoast.... for a good 30 minutes or so at least in the middle of each? Wavespeech... etc?

... that's the point! U covered me completely and i just want to add Kosmas Epsilon in the worthy dark namelist.

I think it's time to be more critical against projects of old established superstar djs, as the new comers have much to express and say through their work.

....anyhow! Be progressive! :D

Yeah, I meant disc 1 more than 2. In typical Deep Dish fashion disc 2 is housier than disc 1. And "Pink Cigarettes" is on disc 1...first song.

Re: if not digweed, then who?

well, since there's no "edm lexicon", we can go forever trying to define what's dark, what's not, what's twisted, what's evil, and so on.

but i think for those of us that's seen digweed play over the last few years know exactly what's meant by dark, twisted, evil, hard, bangy, and mind fuck... at least digweed style. at least we felt it pierce right thru us while we were losing our minds on the dance floor.

since we're on the subject of "dark" i personally don't feel prog house is dark anymore... well, not like when it truly hit dark in 2001. jvm, moshic, deep amok, cass... they were making some dark (and dark and hard)stuff. i don't think dark is the same as evil (when we're referring to "evil" digweed"). well, at least when i think dark, i'm thinking dark and gloomy... like a dark mist of fog...
