Re: if not digweed, then who?

What the fuck are some of you talking about? We're not talking about GU CD's or his ability to move on and progress... Or the pregression of house. ALL some of us are saying (people who have actually witness him spin marathon sets) is that it's sad when a man that played like no other, stops playing mind altering music. That's all.

Re: if not digweed, then who?

Maybe his music is not as dark as it used to be it's still there. I don't think his leaving this because it's part of his style. Digger without the dark isn't diggers. Still my favorit

on another note ... What's the deal with Hernan ... to be honest i don't feel him, ive listened to his sets but im getting to the point where i dont want to bother with him ... if any of u diehard hernan heads can throw some music my way that would change my mind, i'll happily listen ...

Re: if not digweed, then who?

Hernan's got a long way to go, he's still early in his career and in 10 years to come he may be the one to take the throne off Digweed, he's still got a long way to go though.

Jimmy van M - hmm I dunno he's a bit of a cookie cutter, run of the mill dj if you ask me.

Danny Howells - sorry, but I've never really worked out why this guy is where he is today.

Jon Lisle - EXCELLENT dj. Amazing skills. His OS cd shows that he easily has what it takes to create a journey. And it's one hell of a journey. But he's kind of a different dj to Digweed, his headcracking abilities need to be worked on I thing.

Don't forget, it's all about the messing with our minds folks. As cliched as it is it's all about the journey in a dj set. And after clubbing solidly for 5 years it amazed me when I did actually get to see Diggers, that was a fucking journey that no other had come close to in now 6 years of clubbing for me. How he made it so seamless, and covered so much ground is way beyond me. Not to mention the rearrangement my brain received that night.

Sorry for really crapping on about this, you must think I'm a bit of a nutter when it comes to the man. But some of you are kinda missing the point a little.

NEWS FLASH

The reason all of you are having such a hard time thinking of DJs playing the "dark" tracks these days is because....NO ONE IS!!!!

The dark, thick, nasty, sick, twisted, grimy era of progressive is over. It has...wait for it...wait for it...progressed. I concider Miami to be the starting point for "The Year to Come in EDM." Guess what, no one I saw was spinning anything close to what I would call "dark." Am I saying I like this current state of affairs...no way. Digweed's Fabric album blows ass. But this is the sound they want to have right now. This time next year it will be a little bit different. A year after that it could be competely new...who knows.

I long for the good old days of the dark, tribal, bangers, but sadly it seems all of the A-listers have either grown tired of that sound or the producers have stopped producing them in quantity. That's why I've got 65 Gigs of sets saved. I can relive those "good old days" anytime I want to. I like the opportunity to hear new shit as much as anyone, but this newer style isn't quite to my liking.

BTW Hernan ROCKS!!!!!! :RightOn: :RightOn: :RightOn:

BRILLAINT man!!!

I agree, who knows if we'll ever see music like that again. I don't have as many sets recorded, but I'll manage.

#415214Post 56 of 111

Re: if not digweed, then who?

i like hernan when he does decide to hit you on the spot, but he plays too many cheezy gay male vocal induced prog house for my liking. hell, it seems like everyone's playing that, adding a shit load of electro, and mixing breaks here and there. is this the selling combination these days? it's cookie-cutter. it's crap.

while we yearn for those "dark evil" days, we have others that are too quick to preach, "hey dude, this is what progressive is all about. PROGRESS." and blah blah blah. bleh. so by that definition, we must accept all changes even if it is shit? i'm not sure if the changes really qualify as progressive. maybe we should start calling the current crap out there regressive house.

most of these cookie-cutter sets floating around these days makes you go

the evil, twisted, mind-fuck diggers makes you go

i'll take the latter any day, progressed or not.

Nice points man. I too believe that just because something has "progressed" doesn't mean you are just supposed to fall in line and accept it. There is nothing we can do about it, it is the way of things, but that doesn't mean we can't keep the vibe alive and the fire burning as the next "sound" comes and goes. The "dark old days" were the best, no doubt, we may never witness another era that produced as much of a certain sound as the period from late 1999 to the middle of '04. It is what got me into EDM in the first place. I never thought I would see it go...completely anyway.

Here lies dark, nasty progressive house...may it Rock in Peace.

can't agree there. maybe progressive didn't start as dark, but think 2001. diggers and bedrock were putting out lots of dark stuff! and remember the short-lived "black" label? remember deep amok's "shades"? now if that wasn't dark, i don't know what is (refer to kiss100 club yellow part 3, 1st track). and those silver planet tracks that yunus was putting out in 2002 like red pilot and euphrates. i'd say that's pretty dark. and those tracks that moshic was making. but when i say "darK" in conjunction with "evil" or any other adjective to describe diggers at his best - wicked, hard, bangy, twisted, mental, etc., i'm really talking about his peaktime mode (oh, there's that phrase again... my fav) - i'm not saying all the tracks in a set must be as dark as songs like shades or red pilot. it's just that when diggers is in that mode, he's so wicked and crazy, that it's evil, which is dark... (gosh, am i making sense?) it must be right? b/c afterall, we're not raising our arms up high in eternal bliss remembering the splashing waves of ibiza extolling to the spirit of mother earth like in pvd or tiesto shows, right? (aka crap and shit).

i have seen digweed live in the last month or so... he's still got the hard, bangy, mean, peaktime mode :) it was great. i think we're just starting to question him b/c the livesets we are getting are not so exciting. even his "live" kiss shows are stuffed with nothing but electro. it's time for someone to sneak a DAT for another "beirut" ;-)

Re: if not digweed, then who?

One thing is progress and other is playing another stile.. i dont see any progress right now.. what this djs re doing is not a new blend of stiles, they re swiching.. Fabric 20 is nice, but it`s a Cd of OLD Tech, maybe it sounds new to people not used to the tech sound, but people that use to listen to Tech have and know that songs a year before the CD comes out..

#418427Post 62 of 111

Re: if not digweed, then who?

Digweed WILL come around again, its all about cycles IMO.It's not his fault if the music isnt there any more, but as technology moves forward,so will the styles of music available.

#418434Post 63 of 111

Re: if not digweed, then who?

I heard a couple of Naveen G sets a while ago and they where kinda dark, Kasey Taylor is also nice and I used to have some good jondi & spesh sets that where pretty deep but im not really sure what there sound is rite now.

Snake Sedrick is an amzing Dj producer but im not convinces hes dark, just nice and deep progging house.

Shit I really do think that sound kinda died when Digweed got bored. Im not a big one on this tech house thats consuming djs latly but hey, still loads of good music being produced so im happy. :D

Nah...it sucks. "in the light I see you, in the dark I feel you" over and over and over and over...

That part has to last 10 frickin' minutes. Totally subpar effort from The Man. And it pains me to say that.

Might I suggest checking out Damien Lazarus of Crosstown Rebels. He shines late at night/afterhours with twisted mind fuck beats. Not trying to compare him to Mr. John Digweed, just wanted to share some new talent.

Read the fucking thread. We're trying to work out who else/why doesn't anoyone provide a mindfuck like digweed does (or as some are arguing used to). People are missing the point and talking about DJs who playing a dark style.
I was just wondering about some of the comments that some people were making about digweed not playing the dirty/twisted/mindf*ck/dark house music... then who is? Is there a dj that is playing that kind of house music?
There ya go, straight from the author. Everyone started throwing out their thoughts on who is still playing this style, I threw out my view that no one is. So your arguement really holds no water. If you can't read another members opposite view without going off into some kind of bullshit like you did then maybe you need to ignore my future posts and not fucking respond to them, because I'm sure there will be a time when we disagree in the future.

Wow, you must really have something else going on to even concider that statement was made with any kind of seriousness. You are really upset that something other than what you wanted to be talked about is being discussed in this thread!!! Do you go on messageboards very much?? Not this one obviously because thread go different directions all the time around here. So like I said, chill the fuck out, find some way to accept that every topic of discussion is not going to go the way you want it to and feel free to ignore my future posts if they are going to upset you so much. I don't want to perpetuate a topic that, if one read it and took it all as "fact" (music being played these days is almost all crap) when it primarily centers around a sub-genre of music that is missed (rightfully so) and would also make the reader dead-sure that john digweed is marilyn manson/ozzyosbourn the DJ...

Digweed playing hard (and nobody mentioned the best word to describe what he can do that normally one would think... hmmmm this track seems not right somehow... its a little creepy.... diggers do it and we know.... its just WRONG) is wonderful and amazing to hear, but when u think of the wrongness factors (evil/dark/whatever?)the creepy traks are all a touch or so off-key, slighty timestretched, and the really great ones had a mystery/novelty to them that loses its edge with each play...

I truly love and enjoy the niche of music we are talking about, and i was at twilo alomst every friday night for almost 3 years, and almost as many saturdays for junior Vasquez(well, sunday morning and afternoon too) and I'm afraid to ruin your faith in Diggers "evil" as "untouchable" BUT if it were a competition, thank god i am a faggot (just as a sidenote, lol) and it never will be (except when people turn it into one and then try to pretend that musical differences of opinion are so individual, and NEVER can anyone win the "title of king" or "best") cause thats up to you to figure out for your own ears and mind...

but at least know that while not the same exact form of evil, Junior was a twisted sadistic EVIL motherfucker for sections up to I'd say 5 hours or more (in his 15-24hour long sets he did weekly)... but this time evil didn't smile and be the nice teddybear that we see when digweed is stompin... u looked up and saw anger or perhaps a smile but a twisted mad scientist that was set out to kill people with the music if he could... I love both of them, one is just actually overwhelming and real-scared-scary at times, and the other is a nice nasty bangin land of debauchery that with my eyes I can also take as Digweed's amazing touch he is in with his darkside (musically at least) but still see the unmissable glow he puts off that I only see in the best souls out there... I hope I can be as true to myself and to others in life as he seems to be... star DJ or not... what an amazing person, it's so hopeful and refreshing to think about... SO LET HIM PLAY WHAT HE PLAYS and one day you will have a non-evil isn't-my-life-fucking-amazing dancefloor epiphany... and I'll continue when you get there and we'll talk about how great life can be walking around looking at faces and realizing almost right away if someone is living their life or trying to but following rules that are made up by who knows.... but I can't break them...

I know I sound nutso, but it's a really fucking great place to be and if people could visit my world, I think they might be jealous sometimes.... it's fuckin FUN! :)

Cause, you know, music never has the power to like, take u back, to emotions, places, times, people, or any of that crap... clearly this "digweed" as u call him must suck if he went with his "heart" and not been marketing himself and appeasing you at the same time to make sure he was still "cutting edge"...

music by the book, industry standards and top 40, let's never stoop to thinking anything that already happened might possibly still be interesting let alone acceptable Ok?
^^^ Three posts to say nothing at all.

Shit! You mean to tell me that whole time I was phrasing things so that I communicated a sense of how much I feel and think and believe in things.... I ended up saying nothing?

Are you sure that you aren't the one who isn't funny and then when you were found out you thought it would be funny to "call me out" and then everyone would write you private messages saying you were the funny one? Except you "call me out" ... you have had plenty of opportunities to call-out one of my posts for saying nothing at all and being correct, but alas you chose one (or 3) that I was "worked up" over music and saying how i felt and reacted to it.

If you can't get worked up over your music, keep up this whole not-funny thing of yours, and make posts about electronic music being repetitive and your disdain that comes with it.... i don't know if you should keep trying anymore... cause I see you trying really hard, and that's great, and actually, I just saw another post of yours and it used valid evidence and i like that.... So I don't know if you just had a few posts that didn't come out the way you meant to say things or what, but I really want to decide if you are a good one, or "other" before I go any further with this relationship... let me know, I'm in a posty-rant-lets be bitchy for fun-mood. Can you play this game, or even want to? I'm really good at it, which is great, because it doesn't pay for shit or do any much of anything other than amuse me for up to 5 minutes after posting/reading a post.
