2004 Grammy Award Nominee Sasha returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to the hottest and most critically acclaimed electronic music album of 2004: Involver. To be clear, the most exciting thing about this release is that this is not "Involver 2", the Involver concept is Sasha finding the space between artist, producer, and DJ. Fundacion on the other hand, is a whole new take on DJing. He's given up the turntables and CD players in exchange for a custom designed mixing setup that uses the Ableton "Live" software and a one of a kind controller that Sasha has dubbed "MAVEN" to create a never before heard kind of mixing.

To showcase this new technology and its sonic capablities, Sasha launched a bi-coastal residency (at New York's Crobar and Los Angeles's Avalon) with the closing party in New York being the launch party for the fruition of the entire endeavor: the Fundacion mix CD.

Fundacion will be the recorded version of what Sasha has been doing live at his residencies: effortless on-the-fly re-edits, mash ups, and flawless blends.

Tracklist

 1. Badger - Rise of The Machines
 2. Adam Johnson - 4 Squares
 3. Swayzak - Snowblind
 4. Beanfield - Tides (Carl Craig Mix)
 5. Kosmos Epsilon - Innocent Matters
 6. Funk D'Void - Can't Get Enough
 7. Closer - Music (Ewan Pearson Mix)
 8. Phonique - 99 and a Half
 9. Holden & Thompson - Nothing (Mix 1)
 10. Holden & Thompson - Nothing (Mix 2)
 11. Mandy - Jah
 12. Playgroup - Behind The Wheel (Electroca$h Mix)
 13. Freeform 5 - Electromagnetic (Tiefshwarz)
 14. Closer - Music (Ewan Pearson Mix)
 15. Andre Kreml - Safari (Holden Remix)
 16. Freaky Chakra - Blacklight Fantasy
 17. Goldfrapp - Strict Machine
 18. M83 - Don't Save Us From The Flames

The release is set to June 21. There will also be a special edition of the album, more info soon hopefully.

It looks like it will be only one CD. :( But I'll probably still have to get it....

I'm still not convinced.

I'd rather see Sasha live.

Re: Sasha - Fundacion CD (more information)

Those of us who live in places like eastern Germany don't have that option, unfortunately.

Although I have to say I'm a little disappointed to see the exact same transition (Behind the Wheel -> Electromagnetic) as is in the Proton set from Orlando. It's the highlight of the Orlando set for me, but I wouldn't expect anything from the freely broadcasted set to also end up in the professionally released mixed CD.

Although I cannot get enough of that 'Electromagnetic' remix - it's just one of 'those' tunes.

Is it released? I've looked on discogs.com and all I can find is some old 2x10" of "Electromagnetic", but no Tiefschwarz remix. Absolutely stunning track.

I did find one chart (not sure how credible it is) that lists London-based Ultimate Dilemma as the label that has signed it. That's the same label that originally released 'Electromagnetic'. We'll see though; I definitely want to have a copy of it.

Hopefully do both... see Sasha live (roll on 21st May) and will buy the mix. After initial reservations Involver just grew and grew, a future classic mix. Fundacion has a lot to live up to.

Re: Sasha - Fundacion CD (more information)

Sweet! I think a single disc mix CD will be just fine. Many times dual disc mix CD's have one CD that's good and the other is so so.

Re: Sasha - Fundacion CD (more information)

Anyone got any more info on this 'one of a kind controller that Sasha has dubbed "MAVEN" '? Sounds like it's designed to interface directly with Abelton, am I right?

#411989Post 16 of 51

Re: Sasha - Fundacion CD (more information)

^MAVEN custom controller (built just for Sasha) --- doubt will be available anytime soon.
DJ Sasha's MAVEN Controller: Build it Yourself?

CreateDigitalMusic - Tuesday April 5, 2005. 02:48 PM http://createdigitalmusic.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=316&Itemid=44

Is DJ Sasha's custom MAVEN controller as plugged in promotions for the artist, built from a free open-source DIY kit? (Sasha uses this custom hardware to control Ableton Live on his iMac G5 during gigs.) MIDIbox users are speculating the MAVEN is based on the MIDIbox platform in a forum discussion (http://69.56.171.55/~midibox/forum/index.php?topic=4260.0 ). MIDIbox is a hardware platform and operating system for building your own MIDI hardware; I'll cover it more soon for CDM but in the meantime, check out those projects. People have built everything from custom synths using the SID hardware employed by the Commodore 64 to sequencers and controllers. It seems one of the creators of Sasha's box (not identified publicly) asked one of the team members for info. Sasha and his promoters have been mum on details of the MAVEN. I'll be looking into this, but in the meantime, whether you love or hate Sasha, hardware controllers will make your computer music-making a lot happier. Stay tuned for a custom and pre-built controller roundup tomorrow.
This might be a good cd. Involver was ok. I really like airdrawndagger though. So lets hope this actually captures the real magic of a sasha live set.

I have to agree on that. Not bad, but not smashing either. I hope the final album is going to be more interesting.

ah right.. the minimal/electro side of house. Yeah.. there seem to be a massive hype around that nowadays. I personally haven't been able to add that style to my taste yet. I guess I am more of a sucker for the subtle delicate sounds.. ;)
