Who's coming? :) My friend and I are getting a table for this... Also... CAN ANYONE here find the article from Rolling Stone Magazine that was written about Club Firestone - Orlando and John Digweed... because at one time this was one of the most famous Clubs in the world. +1000 for anyone who can find that article or recall exactly the story/history behind it.

Reason being, my college roommate just moved here about a year ago from NYC, and is going and I'd like to tell him more about the history of the club. I forget the details exactly though .

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

You know, table service. It's an American (and Asian) thing :(

Is March 17 a public holiday? (Ok don't think it is.)

Any idea how long he'll play for?

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

Firestone has been around for ages, for sure it used (maybe it still is) to be one of the biggest clubs in the US

Thanks for posting the article

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

You haven't been in this scene long enough then, Firestone was big back in the 90s. People like Jimmy Van M have played there, so has S&D.

Generally securing a table involves getting a bottle of spirits and gives you a 'reserved' space to hang out.

It gets out of control when there are more tables than dance floor.

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

We're old, married and not clubbers at all anymore, so for the sake of making our wives happy, we are getting the table. Ahh married life :)

Did someone say it was lame then? Or are you imagining things again? Weird how you constantly post things on a (public) internet forum and then seem to resent peoples' input. Very weird. I can't imagine going to a club and sitting at a table, nor do I really have much time for the whole vip bullshit. The best clubs I've been to have neither. So, to be clear, this thread is only for people coming to your "meet up"? Opinions or questions from others aren't welcome??

I've been in the scene long enough! and I am well aware of the history, I just dispute the fact that it was ever one of the most famous clubs in the world. And how many times did Sasha & Digweed play there? Maybe 10 tops.

Seriously audrey_w, you have issues with table service, take up with the clubs.

And ♫♫♫♫♫♫ you got issues with Firestone, take it up with Rolling Stones.

You people got more issues in this thread than any one opinion.

I didn't read it in Rolling Stone, I read it in the first post. I don't have any issues with Firestone I just could name over 100 clubs that were more famous in the 90's.

I think table service is generally considered tacky in the UK, a bit like hiring a Limo

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

To be fair to the Orlando scene, didn't it lay the foundation for the dynamic duo's Twilo residency.

In terms of a club, it was never going to be on a par with the big ones. But then neither would Shelley's be up there.

#1708513Post 29 of 109

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

Bigger isn't always better boys ;) I went to Shelley's and it was fucking ace. Can't quite imagine booking a table there.

#1708530Post 35 of 109

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

I figured form this thread that a club in Florida is not as big as other clubs in the world, according to a Rolling Stones article written 17 years ago. And, table service in clubs is not very popular in England as it is in USA, due to the 'chavish' characters surrounding a table in a night club. So is it acceptable to say that tables do not belong in night clubs? Or a matter of the fact in opinions of this trend of restaurants morphing into a night club in the back (A-la the the spectacular Trouw).

Moving on from individual opinions, which I truly respect, I'd say it's good to see people make an effort to go beyond a forum dedicated to EDM, and trying to connect in an environment this forum is based on.

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

In the spirit of meet-ups I'm looking forward to a fellow member flying into Sydney. To share experiences from worlds apart, talk our passion for a solid transition between songs and a heavy bass line. But if he ends up being a Pyramid scheme dictator who attempts to steal my liver by the end of the night, so be it...

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

It's just a nice invite from a friend of mine who a) told me Digweed was coming to Firestone and b) said he would be getting/paying for a table. I thought it was a nice gesture. and since I'm not a fan in any way of the clubs or downtown here in Orlando in general, like I wad over 10 yrs ago.

Re: Meetup - Digweed - Firestone - Orlando, FL

Yeah it does seem very tacky. But, moreso, divisive.

The best parties throw out the (man made) barriers of wealth, religion, nationality and bigotry and people just dance, together, whoever and whatever they are, as equals. People moving to the sound, as one.

You will never convince me that dividing up the club into sections, dependent on wealth, will make for a better atmosphere.

The kind of people who like to have their ego massaged a little by having drinks brought to "their" table would probably enjoy it more if they went to a casino or something. There, they'd find more like minded souls and can talk about who's got the biggest watch without the annoyance of the loud music and other people dancing
