60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Hmm..... It may as we'll say endorsed by Fabric
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Pulse radio so its endorsed by Holosound ! :)
this is a DISCOGS compiled list tho.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
I've listened to about a third of them mixes and the only one that really belongs in that list is Joris' Balance. Some of them were a struggle to get to the end of the Cd.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
I don't suppose it's a coincidence that last years big thing just happens to be in number one spot

Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
4.2
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
I could agree with most of them, but there are many good comps missing. and Henry at # 3 is completely wrong.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
while i cant get enough of Jaar... having a Resident Advisor mix listed as a "Mix Album" um... No.
plus it looks like almost half of them are either Balance or Fabric... lol.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time

great record! I love it too
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
There was a discussion about this list on Joris Voorn's facebook page yesterday. Someone mentioned that this probably is not an official discogs list but just a user's list. Clicking on the original link http://www.discogs.com/lists/The-Best-and-the-Most-Ground-Breaking-Mix-Albums-Of-All-Time/165664?page=1 makes me think just that. Seems to be just a personal list by user ctdub74 which also would explain the lack of all the 90s classic mixes:Tongue:
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
^ agreed, its a decent list, but this title can never be right with this list,,,its missing some serious ones
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
yea, no northern exposure's! and saiz is a joke even on the list!
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Was airdrawndagger on the list?
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Was airdrawndagger on the list?
No.
Involver, the first one. But, This has not much credibility for me.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
this list is complete crap!!!
Nothing from GU, NuBreed, Tranceport,
and Balance 005 should be a bit higher....
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
No.
Then I'm not reading it
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Was airdrawndagger on the list?
Errr airdrawndagger isn't a mix, there's none of that true house you're into on there either LOL
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Errr airdrawndagger isn't a mix, LOL
It's not even groundbreaking
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
then lets make our own MS list....maybe just 10 as I aint got all day.
I'll start with the Jooris Voorn balance, surely has to be in there. Northern Exposure 1 is also a shoe in.
One of my fave cd's is Sasha's ibiza GU, but it wasnt exactly groundbreaking was it. Just an excellent snapshot of what he was doing very well at the time...
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Zabiela's first GTDJ CD was pretty groundbreaking. Either that or his four 1 series which was put out at around the same time

love this too but the annoying thing about it is that both cd/mixes are just one big track
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
all these lists are gonna be so personal. aint never gonna please everybuddy
Agreed.... back in the day when I actually had "time" to sit down, throw on a pair of headphones and enjoy an album... I could re-listen for hours .... certain albums sure do bring back some memories.
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
In many ways it's a list of trendy DJs. E.g. Fourtet makes great tracks but is a very uncohesive and random DJ.
So M.A.N.D.Y. have really released the most groundbreaking Renaissance Mix Collection ?
They like Max Cooper (so do I, he's a very fine producer) ... but they pick a podcast ! So Max's podcast is more ground breaking than all those Essential Mix's ?
Any list that includes fabric CDs but excludes Guy Gerber's fabric opus doesn't get my respect.
None of the GU, Watergate of Berghain series makes it in there, three of THE most influential mix series.
Plus they pick one of Sasha's least enduring releases, which ends with that dreadful Watching Cars Go By.
Maybe this should have been in there :

Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
my ten would have to be
Northern Exposure 1 + 2 Global Underground - San Francisco Global Underground - Hong Kong Global Underground - Los Angeles Perfecto - South America Sander Kleinenberg - NuBreed Transitions Vol. 4 Joris Voorn - Balance Dixon - Live At Robert Johnson Guy Gerber - fabric
... it will change next week !
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Playing this with a straight bat, I can't help but think sixty too high a number for mix compilations genuinely considered "groundbreaking"... I mean mix albums have been around for about 20 years or so? That would mean on average 3 "groundbreaking" albums a year? Hell's teeth, I'm surprised there'd be any ground left...
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
There was a mix CD from Parks and Wilson from back in the day that was pretty damned good - forget the name though
Northern Exposure 1 and 2 are essential - I remember hearing the track Raincry for the first time - wonderful piece of music
I also loved the concept behind the mix series 24:7
Don't forget Danny Howells and Nocturnal Frequencies ;)
I also loved the concept behind the mix series 24:7
There was a concept behind 24:7! please explain
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
I thought sasha and digweed's first renaissance comp was groundbreaking, but perhaps not in a good way. The days of mix tapes (played live) were replaced by mixes manufactured in a studio. People became used to hearing flawless sets and, maybe subconsciously, then thought live (real) mixes inferior
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Future sound of london's ISDN transmissions were groundbreaking, way ahead of the game in many ways. I can't really name any compilations that I'd call groundbreaking that were no more than a selection of similar tunes, programmed together on a computer, no matter how listenable they are.

painting on silence i think.
I also really liked the zero tolerance cd by gab oliver from back in the day. Those guys really had their own sound
Re: 60 most groundbreaking mix albums of all time
Looks like it was compiled by Resident Advisor, all kidding aside who was the 20 year old put that list together.
