Re: The Best sound system of all time.

I was thinking more in the line of:

Pure hearing class at Womb.

But now I can see why the girls dig the sound systems in cars!

Nice one :)

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

That awkward moment at 1:04 when a fat pack in a golf cart sees you getting off to over driven bass in a car sound system. We've all been there before.

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

lol ..

the best one i've heard so far is the F1 at Mansion Miami .. some of my friends that used to go to Twilo tell me that it still the best they've heard.. i wonder what kind/make that was ? I am guessing custom..

I was also pleasantly surprised by the new system they have at Mighty SF .. not sure what it is, but sounded good and Digweed put it to the test for sure

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

i dunno, im not sure mansion would be considered the best. f1 system are finely tuned to be amongst the best but im not sure the dimensions of the club help any.

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

I heard years ago that Twilo and Cream had the best sound system thanks to Steve Dash (if I remember well) is he still working ???

Now, I think vagabond has a good one.

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

Twilo...

If only I could turn back time. Yeah Cream is ok, I kept thinking Pacha was the better one in Ibiza. Another surprise for me was Sankeys in Manchester and lest we forget matter in London.

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

Output and Stereo are supposed to be very good...

How is Fabric ?
i dunno, im not sure mansion would be considered the best. f1 system are finely tuned to be amongst the best but im not sure the dimensions of the club help any.
Oh that's just the best one i've heard so far, i am sure there are much better set up out there... my sample is rather small.

And ya.. Public Works in San Francisco has an F1 but it think its rather old, or not set up all that well because it doesn't sound as good as mansion
they used a Phazon system at Twilo.
Thanks! I did some research and it seems like they are not in business anymore ? Also the Twilo system was split into two.. one part went to the shelter and the other to some club in Chicago.
Another surprise for me was Sankeys in Manchester and lest we forget matter in London.
When i looked up Phazon i found out that they are using the Phazon system from The Home in London.. so no wonder it sounds good :)
Now, I think vagabond has a good one.
Have you heard it recently ? I don't like it at all... you really need earplugs otherwise severe ringing.. screaming highs and the the low end sounds a bit washed out.. at least to my ears, maybe its just me.

They need an f1 in there

I'd have to agree. The bass would thump so hard and clear that it would shake your insides. Even while waiting in line to get in you could feel the bass pumping. The highs were so crystal clear that you would hear those little crazy fucked up sounds (I don't know how to describe them) in songs that you normally wouldn't notice on a sub-par system. To quote someone from a long time ago "it's that thumping you feel in your chest and your soul."

Vinyl (Arc) put in a Phazon and while it sounded it okay it was nowhere near as good as Twilo's. I remember Roxy had a Phazon too and that sounded like shit.

The memories this brings. I remember walking into Twilo for the first time ever, August 28th, 2000. I was in the lounge area looking at the lights going insane on the dancefloor and the bass just tearing the floor under my feet. I decided to walk in and inadvertently ended up below one of the speakers suspended from the ceiling. My heartbeat went haywire and I had to fight to catch my breath for a few seconds. It's incredible what those thumping low frequencies can do to you.

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

Sounds awesome Kamal. I think Twilo will always win this + as the club's now closed it goes down in history and can't be compared to anything that's now out there, as no-one can hit the two clubs. Diggers always talks about the tuning and lack of fatigue on ears, even though the system was fully cranked up.

From the clubs I've been to fabric is perfect : details here - http://www.martin-audio.com/edge/pdfs/martinaudio_theedge_4.pdf (Martin Audio also do MOS in London - pic below).

Space in ibiza is great (Funktion One).

Tox Club (underneath destino in ibiza) is excellent (also Martin Audio) : the monitors in the Dj booth were crystal clear and Diggers took full advantage with a stupendous dark brooding twisted set.

^ i was just reading about that on the wiki page :)

"As Breeder we tried to create peak-time progressive house floor-fillers, and our aim was to make them rock and be good enough so that Sasha and Digweed would play them. The first tunes we wrote were 'The Chain' and 'Twilo Thunder', we gave them directly to Sasha and John Digweed and for over a year, they played them around the world at clubs such as Twilo in New York and Tyrant in London" Also.. it never occurred to that the acoustics of a room are very different when its empty and when its in fact full of people..

without a doubt, steve was a genius doing his job, with all the patience and dedication to do something beautiful and perfect. we need people like this in this moments, but now, some people thinks more about the business. :(

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

Thanks to Phazon, Twilo had the clearest, crispiest, balanced, most fluid sounding system I've ever heard. I remember reading somewhere they hired the one of best sound engineers to CAD map the whole setup. A close second place is Output in Brooklyn. In 3rd, just next door from old Twilo was the late underrated Crobar.
A close second place is Output in Brooklyn.
Also i think Output is a great name for a club..

Re: The Best sound system of all time.

''I need to ask everyone a favor, and the reason why I'm gonna ask this favor is because People in general live in a huge Grey area which I like to call "Oblivious" and that most of you know as politically correct. I am not politically correct, I am gonna tell you the truth whether you like it or not. Believe me its not my arrogance, because I'm sure there are People out there that probably say "Ooh thats because he's Angel and he thinks he's the best"...or because I think I know more than anyone else, thats NOT it at all. its because I am answering your question and the only way I know how to answer it is with the truth. The favor is: I would really appreciate very much if People stop asking me "what do you think about the Sound System?", And as a consolation I will tell you why: With all the DJs and different request that some of these DJs (Who are clueless when it comes to good sound) make in today's club scene it is virtually impossible to maintain a sound system to the point that it performs amazing all the time. To plug and unplug and switch shit around all the time is not good for any system. Think about it, if you did that to your Car, eventually it would break down, run like crap or not run at all. If we're going to take a real close look at the rooms in history that have been regarded as "Incredible" sound systems, there are several factors why these rooms are hailed as great sounding rooms: The Paradise Garage, Zanzibar, The original Sound Factory, Twilo and not because I say so but because most people who experienced it would say the Original Stereo system. Reason 1...There is usually only ONE resident DJ who knows the system and its capabilities and actually plays well recorded material. Not compressed crap. A perfect example of this is Mr Larry Levan. Larry not only played what is arguably some of the best engineered Dance Music in history but Larry worked very closely with every aspect of his mighty System. Reason 2...The engineer who installed and maintains the System...Most of these guys did it and there are a hand full of us who still do it for the LOVE, we literally get off when the sound system is exceptional and we want to hear it sound incredible, PERIOD. Of course you have to have the Ears and experience. The engineer talks to the DJ and he or she gives a tweak here and a nudge there and the DJ works closely with them. (you didnt see other people driving Michael Shumacher's F1 Car did you?) Reason 3...Once in a blue Moon you'll get someone who not only owns the room but pays particular close attention to the Sound. Like a Phil Smith, Michael Brody and I like to think myself. Its just what I choose to do. For me the number one thing in a club is the Sound PERIOD, I mean why else do you think we're there? MUSIC. Everything else is secondary. There is a huge difference between installing your sound for "business" and installing it cause you say to yourself "This has got to be the best I've ever heard". If there is only 1 red light in the room as long as I have great sound, I dont give a shit about anything else. Again, thats me. Most Club owners are not like that. Most clubs today are buying into sales pitches and gimmicks instead of listening to people who actually know what great sound is and how to truly execute it. It all depends where you mind frame and philosophies are as an owner. And finally, the main reason that I dont want anyone to ask me my opinion anymore is very simple, MOST people cant handle the truth nor do they really want to hear the truth, but if we're gonna have truth and be honest, like it or not here it goes, there isnt a room in NY today that I can honestly say sounds ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, can you?''
