Re: involv3r tracklist
The only positive thing to say about Involv3r is that at least its not a 120bpm snoozefest like every other comp is at the moment.
The burning quetion is: Did Sasha actually do the mix, or was it one his team?

Re: involv3r tracklist
why oh why didn't he managed to bring Charlie on this, they create magic together !.
there are a couple tunes that are nice, but this sounds pretty half-assed and unfinished TBH.
did he use the same drum sounds on the first 45 minutes?
tell me about it !.

i was wondering the same, cause most transitions sound like: "is this the finished mix, or a minimix preview :/"

don't mention this gem, not even close !. Talking about involve3r individually, transitions are not smooth enough, it sounds like the man didn't even put his hand on them.
Re: involv3r tracklist
wow the reviews are totally opposite on amazon uk from what i have been reading on ms....here are a few...
and just when you thought that the genius couldnt better involver 2.... BANG... he comes up with this masterpiece ! this is sasha at his absolute finest and one of the most beautiful mixes i have heard in a very long time ! a must have in anybodys cd collection who appreciates good electronic music !
After the lukewarm response to his second installment it's pleasing to find that he's come back stronger & better than ever. I'd place this alongside his first in the series, so be safe in the knowledge that you're purchasing a product of absolute quality. Packaging is a rather functional tri-fold which is a bit unusual for the series, but nevertheless it houses the 2 discs exceptionally well.

Re: involv3r tracklist
wow, so this is it? this is what he has been doing for the last couple of months (years)? I mean wtf, seriously???
Still, I am not sure if I listened to the real thing (download oh oh) or someone mislabeled the file. In case it was Involver 3 I - and wow it hurts a bit - have to agree with most of what has been written so far. It so was NOT worth the wait!
I wonder, what was the initial idea of Involver again? I vaguely remember there was some (next level?) concept behind it once?
To be fair I have not listened to the beatless versions so far but then again may I dare to ask - Why should I?
One should not laud the past ... but in this case I can't resist. Anyone remembers this?

I prefer this over any of his new Remixes anytime.

Great work..!
The Northern Exposure comps are also a studio re-creation, with heavy input from studio gurus, because that was considered as state-of-the-art if not groundbreaking back than.
For some reason in my naïve mind there they were Sasha and JD behind a deck mixing away NE1, which I am sure happened, but I didn't know that there were more people involved. What you are saying somehow puts those amazing live mixes we get once in a while in perspective..

Re: involv3r tracklist
I've never been a huge fan of Sasha but this time I've got to admit I can't even listen to the new Involver. It sounds as if it was 1993 not 2013. A mix some drug-addicted kids might possibly kinda a like.
Re: involv3r tracklist
Listened to this last night in bed with headphones on.
Oh dear!
Seriously, I have loved the tunes Sasha has been playing over the last 3 years, summer 2010 when he was playing Hate Love, Betoko and Lopazz's New dimension, Amber Turtle, We are Castles etc. etc. To me this was like the Sasha I was listening to in 1991-94.
However, listening to this last night was a real let down, the tracks themselves were all OK, but the mixing (or programming) was just lazy, there was no flow at all. I tend to take 3 or 4 attempts at a mix before I post it, when doing stuff at home anyway, but never spend more than a couple of nights putting them together, and I think I could do a much better job of putting those tunes together myself. Not what you expect from a Sasha release.
I will listen again this afternoon in the car, maybe I was just tired and didn't give it a chance, but first impressions were not positive. :(
Re: involv3r tracklist
i avoided this thread for the very reason I am not telling my wife about my thoughts on the new involver(she hasnt listened to it yet). I dont want my opinions to affect her thoughts because i want her to tell me exactly what im expecting her to say. (come on its already been said 1000 times in this thread)
THIS IS NOT INVOLVER. The first two had some sort of connection. They took you deep and allowed you to roam and bask in its darkness.
Its so strange to read the booklet where its taking about Sasha's perfectionism. I mean, has he listened to this? There are a couple of transistions that had me scratching my head, and not of amazement, but wondering was sasha in the bathroom and one of his minions turned the knob or pressed the button.
I think to call this an involver mix is misleading, and that this release, in whatever name, is a disappointment coming from Sasha himself.
Re: involv3r tracklist
This obsession almost killed the Maida Vale gig too.
exactly.
involv3r is disappointing. The man needs Charlie, what was he thinking ?! :/
i wont buy physical copy, itunes was more than enough.
Haiz artist album on its way ;)

Re: involv3r tracklist
i get the maida vale comment but its one of my personal favorites.
Re: involv3r tracklist
just listened to the utube version, very boring and uninspiring, glad i didnt buy this in advance like i do most releases.[h=3][/h]
Re: involv3r tracklist
I find it incredibly funny how some people (not you!) still think that GU: Ibiza is the work of a god-like DJ with flawless mixing skills. While in reality it's studio work. And the "flow" (the perfect chunk of music before the iconic My Lexicon hook, for instance) was actually a painstaking, lovingly assembled, re-creation.
Nah.. you can count me in that group for sure :D
But you know, now that I do have an idea about it, it made me recap my personal observations. Sasha has some incredible live mixes out there, his Zen after party one is one of my favorites, but for some reason every time I've seen him live, I was expecting the same level of solid mixing, which is presented in mixes like Ibiza, etc., but I've never had the pleasure to experience that, unfortunately. And yes, I know that they styles of music have changed tremendously in the past 10-12 years, but I am just talking about build up, mixing, programming..
Now, this involver is much closer to what I've seen at his live shows in past couple of years, and.. granted I've been to only 3.. so not a big sample. And also, since he has been working on it... it makes sense I guess.
I don't want to start an argument, but... its seems like Digweed has a much better "transferability" from album to dance floor in terms of .. dj-ing I guess. Just an observation.. in other words, I would listen to Transitions 4 for example, and then I will go see him live, and I would be like.. "oh, ya.. that makes perfect sense" but i haven't been able to get that same feeling from Sasha.
Re: involv3r tracklist
I'm listening to this on Youtube now. 21 mins in, I don't mind it, but it sounds like hipster music with some beats added. Do not understand this fixation with the XX (whom I don't mind).
Is he trying to get a younger audience cos we're all old farts stroking our balls and complaining about his sound?

But hey, Sasha has been hit or miss for the last couple of years and everybody knows it. He should be releasing much more official compilations to balance it out (like JD).
XX are apparently the new Everything But The Girl. But a DJ & remixer is the bands thinking brain and leader. So, many of their tracks can have great dance reworkings.
oh great... they did one great tune that was a todd terry mix so is this what we have to look forward too from the xx ?
