The last straw has been pulled with our present webhost. I will be migrating the servers I have and consolidating them into fewer servers. All going well, if it works out as I hope, I won't have to delete the archives. Will update here as I have more information.

I haven't done any server shopping in such a long time, can anyone point out how much better in performance a Quad-Core 3.3GHz E3-1230-V2 Xeon Ivy Bridge with 16 GB be in comparison to Dual Xeon E5160 3.0Ghz with 16GB RAM?

Cheers diego, 1 server has been moved over, waiting for it to update properly and will start moving the MS server. Site will be offline for a couple of days. I'll know then if the archives will remain online (so far its looking promising).

The Xeon E3-1230-V2 is an Ivy Bridge chip, the latest architecture from Intel. It scored 9713 on Passmark CPU test, and is ranked 31st out of ~1300CPU's ever tested by Passmark.

The Xeon e5160 is a Sandy Bridge, which is right behind Ivy Bridge so its the 2nd latest chip for architecture. It scored 2059 on Passmark CPU, and is ranked 519th out of the same ~1300CPU's tested.

The new server has a beast of a processor and should run circles, laps, and countries around the 5160.

Very good upgrade!!

I rsync'd the archives to the new server last week and I think Kamal said there should be enough space on the new box for a good while so no need to delete anything. I also have the files in s3 for safekeeping too.

If folks are interested in helping maintain a dedicated server, which I can share FTP access in order to share sets, I'll be happy to rent one so that a greater number of sets can be hosted. I've priced the cheapest server I can find and it runs about $125/Month. Just throwing an idea out there.
