I missed the deadline to vote.....personally I rarely ever go into the archives, but I do think it's a really cool feature. I think it is an incredible database of music, and definitely a rare find on the Internet. Maybe look at ways to promote it and get new people on the board excited about wanting to post so they can access it.

Just getting back on here after moving across the country and seeing this thread, but if needed I could help throw all this shit up on S3 if we want to keep it around. ~220 GB is about 20$/month storage, but the data xfer if it varies a lot could be a cost variance. 10GB xfer is < 2$ so that 169GB month where someone copied the whole archive would be an extra $20 for the month in xfer price.
I always keep pimping s3 here but I know it won't disappear one day like any crap on megaupload and nothing will ever expire if it isn't downloaded for a while either, so it is something that will always be there.

i put a lot of hours into the digweed side of it so if it goes i would ( if possible ) like to have access to the ftp to download the archive

I have all the hc ones, I've spent the last couple of days filling holes in the collection. I have a sneaking suspicion that I have a lot of multiples but you can't be too careful. :) I will be putting them all up on mediafire over the next couple weeks, there are a lot there now. At least I am getting it all organised properly. But it would still be nice to have them here. I have to say thank you to those who did such a great job on the archives !! :Respect:
One of things I really appreciate is the tracklists, I will be putting those up as well.

I've no doubt you're very proud of the Dj database and the programming tweaks and apps that make the forum more and more like the boring, soulless shit that is facebook. If the DIgweed and Hernan stuff is hosted externally will that really make any difference to a new member? Surely if the reason they join is to get those sounds, they'll just be grateful to get them rather than gripe that it isn't a direct link? If it's all in one place in the forum along with the tracklists etc then i don't think hosting externally is a big deal, providing the links stay live, which i'm sure they would.
In the meantime we can sit back and watch the slow, painful death of what was once a very vibrant place, whoop and holler when the membership hits 50,000, ignore the fact that 49,000 are inactive and repeatedly ask why Chunky is pissed off. I've really no idea why CHunky would be pissed off???? Maybe he was just having trouble deciding what his favourite condiment was? FFS :roll:

I've always liked Mediafire since they seem to be the fastest for me and the least likely to take down stuff, but they could get raided soon or they could change their policy sometime and things could wind up going missing. Thats always the tradeoff with the free download services I think.

Most of us are old timers on this site. Speaking for myself, I only visit subforums I subscribe to. Maybe the DJDB has little relevance to us, but it's still a helluva cool feature to have.
Another really nice feature is the Cloud Flipper, one of the new 'tweaks' or 'apps' that you guys whinge about. It's made MY life a lot more convenient via RSS since I don't visit Soundcloud. Linking up Soundcloud to the DJDB is another genius.
And Simon putting together the Kiss write ups every week, now uploading his tagged MP3s for us, that is hardly a necessary 'feature' but it sure is nice to have!
(If you consider our archives in the context of these music functionalities and the founding purpose of the site, then keeping the archives is a no brainer.)
The editing on this site works since and I should know since I'm posting in the booby thread all the time.
What I don't understand about this whinging: the basic functionalities of this site has never changed. It's still a forum. You DON'T have to use any of the new features.
Kamal's thread about MS going the way of the dodo and all we might have is the nonsense thread and music thread. Well we still have that now.
So nothing's stopping any of us from starting threads, contributing crap, and making this place 'vibrant'.
The forum is made up of its people, not the upgrades. So the onus is on you.
MS cost time and money. And I doubt if the people who contribute that time and money appreciate this. You sound like a bunch of babies throwing tantrums about the toys they never asked for.

the DJDB is awesome. i've got an 18+ hour trip next week and that thing makes it so easy and quick to load up on some new tunes.

Nowhere did i say I was going to improve anything, did I? Much more professional. They are aiming at businesses using their services. They do come down on copyright issues , but have mechnisms for appeal. They are so much more transparent. I have a a pro account, so not free :)

Unfortunately some of the new features are unavoidable.
Copy and paste/ editing etc is a nightmare to use now. Seems most have complained about that at some stage.

In the 21st century, I only have FOUR consistently open tabs in my browser. I access a lot of sites via RSS, I keep updated on Twitter. I subscribe to art blogs, industry news, technology news, manga, TV, music blogs, music download sites, AND NOW SOUNDCLOUD, so everything is easily perused in my Google Reader.
If you use RSS you'll understand how convenient it is. It's because you don't appreciate the convenience and you expect THE REST OF US TO USE THE WEB AND MS LIKE YOU DO, AND PROJECT YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS ON TO US, that you find so many of the cool stuff on MS (and facebook for the matter) extraneous.

The WYSWYG editor can be flaky but it's not entirely the fault of MS. This is what happens when you copy formated content from another site. This is what happens too if you tried to copy formated content from any source, into a word processor like Word. This is just WHAT HAPPENS.
I get around it pasting formated content into the MS editor, Select All, click Remove Format (second button from the top menu), and reformat the content using the MS editor.

On the whole this is just extremely distasteful and disappointing especially from some of the oldest members on this board. It's particularly disappointing that everyone has their heads so far up their asses they aren't aware of the angst and drama they're spewing in the name of 'opinions.'
If you don't realise it yet, part of the reason why this place is less vibrant is because threads like this are too 'charged' and erupt into nonsense so condiments are the only 'safe' topics to discuss.
And this shit happens because 1% of the population feels justified and entitled to their opinions and presumes to tell the rest how things 'should be' without ever understanding that 'how things should be' is simply a very microscopic world view filtered through 1%. It's never occurred to these people that maybe we just like condiments and boobs and we ARE that shallow.
I assume someone's gonna have to quote and reply to me and I'm gonna be involved more than I want to, so I'm outta this thread. Good luck you all :P
