Listened to cd1 again in the headphones on my flight to St. Pete. I'm not sure what all the crying is about, I think it's a stellar mix.
My sentiments exactly, I had to relisten to Disk one with headphones on to figure out what all the fuss was about.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

I guess what´s making people mad (tbh me a bit as well) is the fact that he thought that this set was so good that it was worthy of an official release, but what I ask my self is: Why only release a glimpse of it and not the whole thing? Maybe he thought if would be to expensive and people wouldn't buy it. Who knows? I think a Córdoba 2 with the rest of the set would make all of us happy.

How long was the set? People arent going to buy a 5 disc release @ $50...

He said he played for more than 5 hrs so I gues it would have to be at least 4 CDs. Garnier did something similar with his Excess luggage CD which was a 5 CDs compilation of different live sets from him. The original package came with 3 CDs but had 5 CD trays. On the sleeve notes he pointed out that it only contained 3 CDs because he thought that to sell all 5 discs at once would be to expensive, so he made the decision to sell the other two CDs separately. I think this is something Digweed should do in this case, if someone wants the whole recording he/she can go out and buy the rest of the Mix if she/he wishes to and not be stuck with a glimpse of what Digweed thought was an amazing gig.

I think you are assuming that this release was a cd continuous mix and that some tracks weren't removed from it later in the studio. This could actually be an edited version of the whole night.

Garnier did not do something similar with his Excess luggage CD, the Excess Luggage CD was 5 totally unrelated mixes put out and I'm not sure any of them were live mixes most were retrospective mixes of past event

Well to me it sounds like the mix stops at mid tempo and I guess he would have pointed it out if it was a studio edit of the night like when he did his Fabric cd or his essential mix of 2010. I guess people that went to that night can clear this up.

I did say that the Garnier one were different mixes (now I see I wrote they were live). I used it as an example because some people thought it would be to expensive to put out a 5 CD set.

I'm fairly sure that Fabrc CD wasn't mixed live. Its more likely to be a retrospective of a gig that took place in fabric like most of the Global Underground releases. I would be very surprised if he had pointed out that he had edited some tracks out. I would also be surprised if he had managed to clear every track in a + 2 hour mix without some sort of licensing issues.

#1618886Post 218 of 236

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

No, the fabric cd isn't live and the essential mix either. They are both retrospectives of live sets, but thats what I mean if the mix was edited and tracks were cut out I think he would've of mentioned it. If the audio is edited and some tracks are cut out can it still be called live?? The sleeve note at the end says "Recorded live at tres aguas, Córdoba, Argentina 07/01/12"

Yes it can James Lavelle did a CD for cream called Cream Live 2, whats shocking about this CD is it wasn't recorded live and James Lavelle didn't mix it (it was mixed by The Psychonauts). Oakenfold's GU Oslo wasn't recorded Live either (even though it says it was on the sleeve notes). There are many other examples, but you will find most commercial release live CD's have had tracks removed and edited before the CD went on sale. Oakenfold's Resident CD was basically a collection of Essentail Mixes, Kiss FM, & Liverpool Radio broadcasts recorded during Oakenfold's residency all chopped up and edited back together to create the 2 CD's that where released.

Yes it was just a collection of live mixes cut and pasted together

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

^^^Seriously? It may have been protooled together or otherwise mixed in studio, but you mean it was just a few live sets recorded and then strung together in the studio?

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

I am enjoying this new album, the third cd has some great unmixed tracks and the set is awesome. wish he would release the next 2.5 hours of the set on Transitions or a Cordoba Vol 2

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

Really solid mix IMO. Picked it up about 6 months after it was released and I really enjoyed it - CD2 gets really good around track 8/9.

Re: John Digweed - Live in Cordoba

I still play this and still sounds very, very well. and it is good because it is the beginning of a new series of live mixes in cd format I think.
