Re: megaupload taken down ?
This sucks!!! I think 50% of all the famous dj sets on Mercuryserver are hosted on Megaupload :(.

Re: megaupload taken down ?
When you read the charge (all 72 pages of it) it seems pretty much a done deal that they're not returning. Especially the stuff from page 30 or so and afterwards seems incriminating enough to make sure of that. Linky: http://t.co/QhaBtwxi
Hopefully alot of the stuff hosted will be available from some users so a reup can be done.
so it's a hongkong based company, but most of the people arrested were non-americans living outside the US? and these countries let the feds arrest people why?
equally as fucked up:

No, the MU owners are from New Zealand, they could not be arrested. But apparently the company itself is based in the US.
Re: megaupload taken down ?
I reckon it would be a good idea for MS to host their own torrent server. No worries about things being lost. The server keeps track of who's downloaded stuff, so instead of threads asking for mixes to be uploaded all you'd need are reseed requests.

I upgraded to Mediafire Pro, I'll share my account to anyone willing to re-upload S&D, Hernan, vintage sets, Boxed, X2, etc.
Last call, seriously, I'm doing it for free and with no second intentions.
Right now I'm re-uploading Sasha - Paul Oakenfold Stars X2 1999.

Hmm I'm starting to think that the soundcloud route might be the way forward even though I got this info
Recently soundcloud has got in a new content management system, which can id copyrighted material more easily. Loads of DJ sets are being deleted, as it is purely meant for material that you own the copyright to.
Mixcloud is now the DJ's hoster of choice, as it has a playback licence.
Mixcloud is good but I don't think they have a download function. The only decent package on SoundCloud that meets all the needs is £420 or €500 I think I will look to see what happens in the next few days and decide what direction to take. If I go down the SoundCloud route I mite see if anyone here wants to donate to it and see how it works out. I think idealy it would need 8 people all willing to put about £50 in.
Re: megaupload taken down ?
That sound great!!!
I also remember there was a webpage like westcoastoceans.com (or something like that) and mixwalla with tons of sets. Don't know the price of sites like that but if you host your own site you won't have to deal with the deleting problem of "copyright" material on soundcloud. I'm willing to pay a bit for that.
The best thing is maybe a sort of buy-in. You pay and you can download and if you share a lot sets and tapes you get discount or a free membership.
There's also a pretty big forum tranceaddict. They have offcourse the same problem of missing Megaupload. I don't think it's a pretty big problem of getting around 100 members that pay about 20$ a year (pretty big server).

Yeah I got no problem taking some time to re-up a bunch of stuff. Fabric8 sent me one of his old hard drives so between his stuff and mine I'd enjoy giving back what was so freely given to me here @ms
Re: megaupload taken down ?
Soundcloud has had content filters for some time, they probably mean they will filter even more. That usually applies to mainstream artists or "indie" people like Bon Iver and similar, though. I think Mixcloud is going to add the dl option soon but they look even more mainstream-oriented, we're talking about tapes from the '90s. And its interface is still really messy. SC is easy to manage, for me and my needs is still the best option.

as soon as they take them down, new ones will pop up, guarded against the errors the megaupload (and other) owners/hosts committed to get in trouble. the authorities focused on megaupload because it was the most prominent target.
filesonic looks to be either fucked or covering their asses
