How many GUs got the plastic bag/bubble treatment, Simon? I have Tel Aviv and Nick Warren (003).
tbh i never heard Tel Aviv...as for Prague i believe it was Warren's worst comp...Oakey's Oslo is far superior for me (only the 1stCD) Singapore was also a prime example....full of great tracks but the whole mix is weak.

Re: Global Underground #040

The only ones who did not like were, 001 and 005 (Tony de vit) the others almost all have something special, not the last ones in the series, like Felix, layo, cox, and all that. But the most I like is the 040. lol
^Toronto got released as 3 separate mixes and should be easy to find. I have the Toronto mix and also the Dubfire and Sharam afterclub mixes. All 3 releases are 2 discs each.

If the link above is the same as these 3 releases you should be able to find it easy.

I have all 3, and i know you'll agree with me on this: the afterclub mixes are way, way better than the actual GU itself. In fact, I'm almost wondering if they put the afterclub mixes together just because they knew they'd get slagged for releasing a bunch of old tunes on Toronto (i think Nothing and Work To do had been out for a loooong time . . . as well as that Meat Katie track, among others)

Re: Global Underground #040

Deep Dish's GU's were definite Crap. Deep Dish were amazing in 1998-2001, then 2002 came around, they remixed Eminem then went all commercial =\

Yes. I think the first discs from each of the after club mixes were the best from Toronto from what I remember.

I didn't like Moscow but I really enjoyed the tunes from the after club mixes like I said above.

They don't compare to Yoshiesque but are still good.

Re: Global Underground #040

Well - different people - different tastes =) for me Deep Dish GU's are the best of the whole series..i like these sets even more than Tenaglia ones.. classic deep, tribal and progressive house sounds that really got me into house to be honest..i like some of the rest, but they are way too trancey (Oakenfold,Sasha,Digweed, early Warren's GUs) or way too proggy (Howells) for may taste..Dave Seaman's GU 039 is really good, but sbando is right - u can find today a lot of great sets on soundcloud for free imo..

Re: Global Underground #040

Berlin was/is probably due for a mention...Richie Hawtin? though circa 2005 would have been more fitting....his focus on DE9 series would have never allowed for it...if it were now? You'd probably have to go with the bigger names now, and Berlin I'd feel you'd have to have a local for some reason...reason?

Some appearances from artists that hadn't appeared yet, whilst staying away from cheesy sounds....Adam Beyer, Guy J, Funk D'Void...heaps more out there too

a few years ago maybe: Joris Voorn, James Holden, Robert Babicz, Luciano would have been better choices...

New venues? Croatia (Novalja on Pag isalnd) bit cheesy now though I've heard....Belgrade/Serbia...Seoul? Tiddles can comment

You'd have to eventually start revisiting cities/countries that are known for their parties/scenes by doing part 2 or "revisited" otherwise you would have GU41 : Brisbane followed by GU 42 : Leicester etc
...Seoul? Tiddles can comment
yeah right. saw sasha here a few years back and half the locals were too drunk on soju to stand and in taxis headed home 1.30h into his set.

most koreans just go clubbing to look trendy and pretend to be cool. very few actually give a fuck/know who's playing and if the musics any different from what they play in H&M and Zara

I was in Cali last week for work and my friend from Korea brought me a bottle of soju. Not too bad. Gots a little frog and egg logo on it.

Completely agree with you there, Yoshiesque 1 & 2 are both great compilations.
live @ stalactites is still good
Yea, that mix was really good... their 2002 mixes were hit or miss for me, then again Stalactites was an 8+ hour mix :) I think Ali outshone Sharam without a doubt.

think someone needs some serious cred, a fine GU and big pair of bollocks to use Detroit, Berlin (or Chicago) .... iconic cities in electronic terms.

Maybe Carl Craig and Klock & Dettmann would add some real cred back into the series.

Yeah the old GU's were the beez neez, this new stuff has been wack for awhile. Need to start a collection.

Re: Global Underground #040

This is not even in line with the original history or intent of Global Underground. These CD's were about taking the user on a musical journey. Sorry, not knocking on KD, just don't think that's what their music is about. They don't fall under this category.
