Re: Global Underground #040

well at least its not nick or dave again!

but kaiserdisco?? says a lot about the current scene. they should have got guetta to do it!

by the way, what happened to Nubreed.? the sultan release was top notch. I was hoping they would start putting out some decent dj's unlike the other DJ series that was a bit wank.

Re: Global Underground #040

Based on the last two Transitions guest mixes people like Max Cooper and Kollektiv Turmstrasse could be given a go, but they wouldn't sell.

I'd be interested to see what Villalobos could do, but then he'd be very much against a branded release.

Re: Global Underground #040

It's an old thread, there's no Kaiserdisco GU.

Re: Global Underground #040

Yes, someone has to change the title.

Moreover, GU, is slowly dying, if they already didn´t, completely forgot the essence of this series, the music changes, We are old, kids control the world, and all that shit. I know, but they did nothing to maintain quality, calling Carl Cox, Felix "the cat", etc., just to raise money, or I dont know for what and then stopped, even of all the series. ' Hopefully, they can come back with something more interesting than marketing.

They are already dead the last GU release was over 2 years ago now and that didn't really set the world on fire. I would be surprised if Adam Freeland, FDHC and Layo & Bushwacka sold more CD's put together than the last Nick Warren GU mix. If you put toether the last 2 Transitions CD's Digweed released and repackaged them as GU 40 would the have saved the brand? No! You only have to look at Renaissance to see that.

#1640079Post 46 of 114

Re: Global Underground #040

You can go on and on for days, the label died, no one is asking for Warren or Seaman, you brought that up (many times). The whole debate about the changing scene is based on reality but that has little to do with GU. As the original team is no more and the brand itself is dead (a handful of releases months and months ago, that's it).

Anyway, old and new tirades about Global Underground are irrelevant, this is a thread from last year, nothing changed, apart from the fact that Kaiserdisco thankfully was never released and the fake Nubreed was stopped too.

Re: Global Underground #040

Was there any DJ that could have saved the label? Can anyone think of a mix CD by any DJ since 2002 that had it been branded GU whatever and made a major impact? No because there isn't one

#1640099Post 48 of 114

Re: Global Underground #040

I agree. I agree on every point. GU is history! Some releases were pure jokes. I just hope this thread doesn't give label people strange ideas :D.

#1640100Post 49 of 114

Re: Global Underground #040

Maybe not only one, but yes, a succession of DJs, to keep the quality line that the brand had. back in history, Warren, Seaman, Oakenfold, Digweed, Sasha, etc, and the last ones, lavelle, Freeland, layo, felix etc. the trend is very clear, even now, there are a lot of new talent Besides the classic djs of this series.

Re: Global Underground #040

Henry Saiz might have made a cool GU.

#1640107Post 51 of 114

Re: Global Underground #040

Exactly. But they were no longer in charge of the label and the new owner didn't give a fuck, as we've been repeating for the past 5 years or so.

Put a GU sticker on his Balance CD then answer that again

You think having Andy Horsfield at the helm would have made a difference? MOS didn't get GU until 2007, it was fucked long before then

Re: Global Underground #040

For the record, the Dave Seaman Lithuania Mix is a fantastic, very underrated mix album. The first cd especially. I believe this was the last of the main series to come out.

Re: Global Underground #040

^^^^ I mean its easily one of the best of the series IMO. Seaman really delivers on it. Second disc rocks too but loses me in the middle but finishes very strong. CD1 is absolutely amazing!

#1641616Post 67 of 114

Re: Global Underground #040

Disc 1 is decent. But there are better free mixes on SC and MC the whole thing must be re-thunk. I can't believe labels can't offer lossless, gapless versions of their mixes, without format and Redbook limitations.

Re: Global Underground #040

It's really FAST for my tastes, now. But every GU up to 2005 circa is a classic on its own. I liked Darren Emerson's too. The one that was very uncharacteristic back then was Lavelle - Romania, painful.

There's a copy of the 4 CD Deep Dish Toronto available at Discogs but they want 50 eu. I'd love to have that one.

Re: Global Underground #040

^Toronto got released as 3 separate mixes and should be easy to find. I have the Toronto mix and also the Dubfire and Sharam afterclub mixes. All 3 releases are 2 discs each.

If the link above is the same as these 3 releases you should be able to find it easy.

His Uruguay mix was and still is one of my faves (besides his Cream separate mix)....Ron Trent's Altered States is one of the best tracks to close a mix!

How many GUs got the plastic bag/bubble treatment, Simon? I have Tel Aviv and Nick Warren (003).
