This ranking lost credibility years ago.

82- Hernan Cattaneo. WTF.

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Well, of course, it's for larf-sake. You can clearly see who invested money in it and who didn't, top names disappeared. Half of those 100 aren't even DJ to begin with :).

I only took one quick look, but isn't Nick missing at all?

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

I actually have no problem with Guetta being no.1 ... he runs a club night, has DJ'd for ages and makes his own music. The poll has long since stopped being about the best DJ.

It's the randoms in there that I've never heard of that I can't get to grips with : surely the DJ Mag team will struggle to get a credible/readable issue out of this for the people who actually buy the magazine !

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

This will sound strange but I'm happy Hernan is way down . It shows that a lot of his supporters are sensible enough NOT to be on facebook. Sorry, couldn't resist

<(O__O")> That was unexpected.
Awkward Moment? Last week, a girl was giving me pornographic pictures at the Pacha Ibiza closing party - I really wondered why? The photos weren't of herself, it was very strange. I think she was really tripping.
Matt Darey has disappeared, no $ to invest, Matthew?

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

There are some great quotes in here haha.

deadmau5
Awkward Moment: Ranking in the Top 100 of a DJ poll when I've never touched a CDJ in my life.

It's a funny ole thing, the Daft Punk entry into the Top 100 poll. It's almost as if we, and you the voter, have seen them DJ this year. In some kind of parallel universe, we have all been to one of their gigs, left brain-washed into thinking they do actually DJ on a regular basis, wowing us with their electronic wizardry and reputation. And then in a Men In Black-esque moment, we've had our memories wiped clean. Weird.
Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Making it Facebook only voting really made amazing differences. It really isn't about the quality of the Djing is it ??

Ouch I feel bad for Guetta. He got boo'd when he went to receive his award. :( I'm not a fan and don't agree that he should be #1, but there's no need to boo the man.

#1558464Post 18 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Guetta was in South Africa last week and had sell out shows - he definately caters for a younger generation - do I really care? Naaaaa!! Why?? Because - Hernan gives me quality music every week on his radio show - so that makes him my No. 1:p

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Well, David Guetta has almost 25 milion likes on facebook, the same amount as Black Eyed Peas.

That's says it all, he's just popstar, no dj. He must have won by a big margin if he promoted voting on his fb enough.

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Haighly unlikely! but very scarely all the same. the top 5 arent that unprobable.

diggers is at nr. 55?!

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Why are people surprised at this? It's the DJ Mag for heavens sake, pretty sure the average readers age is sixteen and a half.

#1558494Post 24 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

^ Exactly. If you're 16 and a trance head (ie the majority of the people who give a shit about the poll), nothing could be more boring than John Digweed

I think Sasha and Digweed did well to get in there above Eddie Halliwell and Judge Jules, all things considered

#1558497Post 25 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

I think a lot of us get in a state about it because we are old enough to remember when it had some relevance back in the late 90's when Oakey won it, and then when Sasha won it for the first time etc. Back then all of our favourite dj's were in there somewhere.

I agree with Simon though - some of the random names on there amaze me. I like to think I keep track of edm culture etc, so I'm surprised when I see names like Skrillex or aviici??

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)
we are old enough to remember when it had some relevance back in the late 90's
When we were younger in other words? Maybe it's as relevant to the people who vote now as it was to people who voted in the 90s?

#1558501Post 27 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

There´s like 5 people in that list, that I´d actually pay money to see.

This is a pop music contest, the fact that "dance music" is still seen as some sort of forward-thinking music form keeps amusing me.

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

The good news - the winner is not Armin/Tiesto/PVD or whoever from the commercial trance camp lol i am sick and tired of these ''DJs'' The bad news - the winner is David Guetta, who represents the so called electro/pop house scene, wich is WAY MUCH WORSE THAN TRANCE.. All the rest is well known - this kind of pulls are not about quality of the djs, they are about their popularity..its sad that the most popular DJ is David Guetta, but it is what it is...

''"A lot of people don't like the success of someone like David Guetta...But it's a blessing in disguise. He can get the attention of people who don't know anything about dance music. From there maybe they'll move on to something more underground. So thank you David. Your music sucks, but it helps." -Marco Carola.''

#1558534Post 32 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

the list reflects the music tastes of the current generation which is crap and probably 80% of them would drop off the list and be replaced by new tools next year ...

i vote for the new queen of house music for no.1 next year .. paris hilton :)

tbh im more convinced with a list like this, makes much more sense

:D

I do not understand what the problem is, all we know how is this ranking, years ago, and all we know who are the best DJs. according to our own styles, we don´t need a magazine of popularity, to tell us this. It is also true that many kids have voted and they probably, they prioritized the "fuck*** radio music artists" also known as "MTV top 20 artists" before the true spirit of the artist's club.

#1558588Post 35 of 110

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Yeah I'm happy Armin was dethroned but not happy that Guetta won either. But to each his own. As long as the DJs I like continue to play great music I couldn't care less about whose popular or what the rest of the world thinks about EDM.

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

How things can change in 10 years, eh? (well, at least according to the readership of a magazine and/or the nature of how the competition is decided ;) )

Re: Your worst nightmare (Top100)

Exactly, it's just a good lol at DJ Mag, it's a ritual, who cares. Our fave dj's do care, though :).

One thing I need to say: Today's Top100 does't represent club culture anymore, faithful or joke, it's a completely different thing now. To make a comparison, Big Brother's contestants can be hugely famous, as in popular, that doesn't mean they represent anything but themselves. A top 100 poll where you have 75 unknowns, wannabes, retired has-beens, the girlfriend of this, the business partner of that, what for?
