this one is my favorite... it's just a unique cloud formation. Looks like a person jumping from cloud to cloud or something.

Re: sunset photos II

That's awesome, I thought I was the only nutter on the site who liked photographing pretty skies (although I know Chanty likes photographing skies out of the airplane).

Here is a collection of Cumberland skies outside my window.

Re: sunset photos II

What did you use to take your photos John? Mine were with my HTC and even after shrinking them, you can still see a bit of noise on the clear skies.

iPhone 4. I find it does the job well enough. Although I'd love to have a couple grand worth of cannon equipment to use

Nice one guys, here one form my trip to Bombay, or it is Mumbai these days a place called Juhu Beach . This was such an interesting place, never have I been to a beach where absolutely everyone was clothed close to head to toe.

Pretty surreal photo man, everyone was clothed? That too is rather surreal .

Re: sunset photos II

Must say the 4s camera is kick-ass! Some quality shots from the orange man, considering it was only from a phone.

Re: sunset photos II

This was taken a few years back. We were on holidays and later found out that the forests on the other side of the lake which we were at had some fires. So I set up a camera and was lucky enough to catch this right at dusk.

Credits to my friend Joe for this almost mirror like water (in front of the Pay Pal HQ).

Me not a photographer, more of an enthusiast. To be quite honest have'nt really taken much sunset shots, will screen through to find some more.

Re: sunset photos II

^Nice one. What are you getting and what lens sizes?

#1706491Post 22 of 63

Re: sunset photos II

I got the Canon T3i and 2 lenses...canon 85mm 1:1.8 usm (which I love) and a Rokinon fisheye 8mm 1:3.5 umc.

#1706644Post 23 of 63

Re: sunset photos II

The amazing part about the fisheye is it takes 180 degree photos that are really sharp, and if there are no straight lines at the end (telephone poles etc) then it doesnt even look like a fisheye, just a wide angle lens. The horizon has to be straight and in the middle as well. It's a more challenging lens though since my camera doesn't recognize it (no chip) and it's all manual focus but I'm getting used to it, and what settings to use with it. Just bought a Speedlite YN560 Flash II, hope it works well.

I have 4 shoots scheduled with some top female models, hope I don't blow it .

Re: sunset photos II

Nice one mate. Yeah fish eyes are really fun to play around with and no cipset meaning EOS gets thrown in the bin makes it all the more fun. Done forget lens hoods! Makes a huge difference.

Also check out this firmware; Magic Lantern | Home A really good add on to your Canon. It has some additional focusing tools so when you're in manual just gives that extra support.

You taking your shots indoors or outdoors?

#1706755Post 25 of 63

Re: sunset photos II

Taking them outdoors. What will the hood do for me? I've gotten good at post pretty quickly.

#1706790Post 26 of 63

Re: sunset photos II

Post or no post, it is the best tool for minimising lens flare, and you'll find random white spicks that the lens cannot naturally minimise. Useful in any situation.

Example: With hood:

Without Hood:

Notice the flare and a minimised white balance. Also a decent contrast can be achieved.

Re: sunset photos II

I kept thinking these lenses were coming with a hood, even the misinformed sales associate at best but said my 85 mm came with a hood, but neither did, so back to the store, thanks for the pics and reminder. I'll take a look at magic lantern, thanks for that too :).

Re: sunset photos II

Just found a nice lens store (depot) that rents lenses 3 days at a time for very reasonable prices. Looks like I'm going to be busy too, my wife and mom already have me shooting several events lol

The shoots went really well, especially for my first time shooting a model, well 2, except we ran out of light for the 2nd model but still managed to get a few good photos, she wants to reshoot anyway. But the first shoot we got 4 photos everyone is really happy with to use in their professional portfolios, send to agents, etc, so I'm stoked :).

Re: sunset photos II

Wow, so I've done 4 shoots and I've had 5 inquiries on my rates. I'm blown away at how quickly it's progressing, all things considered . But I'm stoked! I have 2 paid shoots scheduled! :)

Re: sunset photos II

Wow!!! Did you take these with a phone or? If so what phone?

#1713410Post 35 of 63

Re: sunset photos II

Yes, all from phone.. i sold all of my cameras since I wasn't really using them as much anymore. I do miss my DSLR every once in a while, but overall.. it was kind of an overkill for me.

The phone is this one: Nokia 808 PureView - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sensor is big enough for most things, and the optics are very capable.. the DR is on the weak side, and the autofocus is a bit slow, but I learned how to work around it.

If you want something more current you can look at this: Nokia Lumia 1020 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sensor is slightly smaller but it still does very well.

here is the sensor situation in the mobile space

Most of them use really tiny sensors.. i am hoping that we can start getting bigger sensor in more phones

here are a few more

Beautiful shots! Still cannot believe how good that camera is on a mobile phone!

Re: sunset photos II

so i lost my HD SD card last night - with 3 paid shoots on it.... fucking bummed out, but buying a new card, and life goes on lol. I have so many shoots scheduled - I don't really have time to worry about it, but now I need to reshoot 3 people - and that kind of really sucks.
