Looking to buy a new game console aside from the WII and cant figure out which one to get. Which is better, the PS3 or Xbox360? Feel free to give your opinions on them.

Depends on which games you like to play imo.
Both have very similar performance. Also remember that Xbox live has a monthly fee whereas PS3 doesnt.

that's pretty much what the xbox has going which is more games but most of the games are crap and those blockbuster games are usually on the PS3 as well with no subscription needed for online play
besides the PS3 doubles up as a blu-ray player as well so you'd get to kill two birds with one stone ;)

^ all legitimate, and that's probably enough to convince and sway anyone; but at the end of the day, ms has the 'rising edge' still, in my view, and the online pay is well worth it (if you want an established base across competitive joints). however, i would not get xbox and pay for the online play if i was not playing it on a committed basis, just my 2 cents.
nothing against sony, i have each sony system, but i spend my time on xbox for various reasons. if you enjoyed sony's past legacies, you should get ps3.
anyways, just get what you think is best fitted for you.

See what your friends play and get that. Playing with your friends online is hilarious and I got an xbox because a majority of my friends are on it. Games are pretty much the same. As stated, anything worth getting comes out for both but there are still some limited exclusives. Halo, Uncharted, etc... Gameplay is pretty much the same. Xbox is cheaper which is a good selling point. For me it's all about playing online with my friends though.

I have always been Sony and only swapped because all my mates were on xbox live and thats what i do mostly.

The XBox has the advantage of some stellar game releases, greater population of people on it, and the fact that it doubles as a Media Center Extender for those that use.
PS3 has a few stellar releases for its corner too so they're a tie there. It has built in Wireless whereas the XBox has it as an add-on. HD Space is better on the PS3 as well, not to mention a BD player that can easily have its BD firmware updated over time with ease. XBox is still trailing badly in that department.
But as Tim pointed out, if your buddies are on the XBox, get it. Algy has the XBox and he convinced me to get one for Gears of War (and I don't regret my decision). Plust the XBox was cheaper at the time so it only made the decision easier.
Quality-wise, if either console is connected in HiDef to your TV, you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference. Look at your budget, the games you'd like to play and what your buddies are playing. You can always just head online and play away in random rooms. I did that for months on the 360 when playing Gears and so I didn't have to wait for anyone to come online.

It also depends on what kind of Games you wanna play..if you like Role Playing Games, an Xbox is surely the better choice because barely any RPG Game comes out on the PS3. If you are more action/sports game addicted, it does not make a big difference..each System has several exclusive Games but the majority of them come out for both consoles. It only seems that Addons and DLC are released earlier and more often for Xbox 360 than for the PS3.

the live gaming experience is much better on xbox than ps3, well worth the 50 bucks a year

yeah, in my case, the first xbox was worth getting just for halo2 alone, back when all your friends had it, and when everyone played it. i guess that still stands today for a number of the 360's exclusive titles.

there will be 2 games of this versus XIII and final fantasy XIII
versus xiii is much darker than the other....you should play one :D final fatnasy 7 can be bought via PSN for around $10 or something like that and final fantasy 8 is also a good game as the last one 12 is very well made and good story...
ha also the final fantasy xiii is for both ps3 and xbox and versus xiii will be only for ps3.....

i got the red lights too but i had a modified firmware and since i did that my warranty was void.
Quality wise the PS3 is much better than the Xbox. Game wise Xbox is better than PS3 imo.

Can't wait for it. Last part I played was FF7 and almost bought an Xbox just to play the newer parts. 2010 will be another HUGE year for RPG's...Mass Effect 2, Drakensang 2, Final Fantasy 13, Arcania (Gothic 4 from diff. developpers) and maybe Witcher 2 but that's maybe a 2011 release. With this handful of Games, the whole year is already covered for me but the PS3 will eat more dust. :lol: RPG's on PC > consoles by far.

Also dont forget about project Natal for Xbox 360, thats going to be a pretty cool feature. Wii-like gaming with high end graphics is better than the cartoonish finish the Wii has.

what newer parts? i recommend you to play final fantasy 12 its pretty good and the fights are better and now you can choose if you fight or not, its not random anymore.... 8)
there are 2 version of that game....final fantasy XII International version on it when you start the game you choose what kinda character you are mage warrior and so on.......and on the entire game you will be like that, on the normal version you can be anything you like... and the grapichs are pretty cool.....i think you can emulate that game on PC if you dont have a PS3 backwards or a PS2
also that game call uncharted 2 looks pretty sweet going to check it out for christmas :D

What do you guys think of this online deal for the Xbox from Newegg? Been thinking about picking this up for my beau for Christmas. Initially I was leaning towards the PS3 but then we already have a Blu-Ray player plus I might get some joy outta hacking the 360.

PixelJunk Eden is an absolute must from the PS store. PixelJunk Monsters is great too if you like tower defense. Both are especially awesome with local two-player co-op.
Fat Princess is entertaining, but I got tired of it quick

yes if you connect the 360 to a Windows 7 system and install FFDShow and Haali, it should play mkvs. I haven't tried it on the 360 but I have a Linksys DMA2200 connected to my Media Center PC and it plays mkvs without any trouble.

Xbox all the way. More game releases, live seems better, great multimedia center for movies & music through PC.
Not totally dissing the PS3, its had some decent games and some interesting future titles. I think the Bluray drive was a head of its time and all it seemed to do was push up prices on the unit from release. I also kinda hate Sony's ethos, If i got a PS3 from release id be kinda pissed off the the Slim came out, the same happened with the PSP, PS2,and original PS. Why not just make it that small from the start!

because of cost and technology limitations. The slim came out and I'm not pissed, because they're identical in every way except for look. Hell, the old PS3 has more functionality than the new one. The new one can't play PS1/PS2 games, where certain versions of the old PS3 could.

I've got both 360 and PS3. Personally I find myself playing both equally.
To me PS3 wins out on a "which console to buy" war because of the bluray player, free online gaming for online enabled games, built in wireless and that there aren't too many console specific games anymore.
Another note on the PS3, almost everything my 360 can do, my ps3 can do also. Honestly, if I had to give advice to someone with no original xbox or PS on which console to get I'd say PS3. It's not just a gaming system, it truly is an "everything" system.
As for the ps3 slim. Personally I hate the look of that and the "new features" they have on it. I love my old bulky PS3, I wouldn't trade it in for a new one if they paid me. I don't care if my system weighs 50 pounds, I'm not 14 and have to take my system to friends houses to play. If people want to play my PS3, or 360, then they have to get off their ass and come over, or buy their own.
When it comes down to it, like someone previously said, it's personal choice. There is nothing wrong with 360 or PS3, it's really just personal preference. I'm with pickle though, if I have to pay 50-60 bucks for a game and then up to 5-6 bucks a month to play online, I'd rather play it on PS3. I'm not much of an online gamer though, too many 12 year olds who think video game skills trump real life.
