Re: 3G iPhone
i cant figure out how to forward a sms message to someone else, is this not supported? :(
nope ... the phone cant forward sms, cant send mms without the help of third party apps and cant cut and paste contacts from your phonebook and send to other party

Re: 3G iPhone

the facebook app is pretty slick. also the google, mobile news, aim, boxoffice, twitterific, and pandora are good too.

Re: 3G iPhone

http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/15/dev-team-shows-off-video-of-worlds-first-jailbroken-iphone-3g/ fyi, the vid shows the iphone as ssh server (using openssh) but it includes the client too (i used it on a regular iphone, and it works like a charm)...

just wait for the release of the tool... :)

Re: 3G iPhone

i so want to do something like this when it comes out because i would love to hack around something like this add screw around on the command line since it is just another unix device, but again i dont want to risk the chance of my crap getting bricked and me having to spend 600$ to get another phone.

i hope some type of official ssh client comes out thru the app store sometime...

Re: 3G iPhone

I just read Apple didn't implement any copy/paste function into the OS, wtf? And turn-by-turn GPS whatever has been disabled pending some legal stuff, possibly for a third-party to develope a app.

300$ for a phone and a 16gb ipod in one doesnt seem too expensive to me.

Re: 3G iPhone

i'm pretty unhappy with this 2.0 nonsense. is it just me or have the loading times increased when doing simple stuff like going into the ipod, setting an alarm, etc. it used to instantaneous
i'm pretty unhappy with this 2.0 nonsense. is it just me or have the loading times increased when doing simple stuff like going into the ipod, setting an alarm, etc. it used to instantaneous
its instant for me but i have the new iphone... never had any experience with the old one

dunno man.

#1050125Post 94 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

yeah i dont know either. i do know it takes a few seconds once i bring up my contacts list for it to be scrollable and respond to anything.

also when i sms and i type really fast the thing seems to crash here and there and go back to the main menu :(

#1050283Post 95 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

^^ im still on 1.1.4 and that has never happened to me ... probably a 2.0 thing

Re: 3G iPhone
wait, what, no mms messages? what the hell is that shit.
i noticed that along with a few other things.. no video recording, no zoom on the camera, no voice command, no copy and paste

#1050333Post 97 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

for a device with the capabilities as the iPhone, the "no copy and paste" muxed in with the "no sms forwarding" ability is probably the most thoughtless implementation to have come from any hardware manufacturer, and to have Apple commit this blunder is downright ridiculous.

#1050350Post 98 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

yeah i dont know what they are thinking with that, pretty lame imo. i did know this coming in, but you would think simple things such as this would be implemented.

im guessing no cut and paste right now because they will have to add some extra icon somewhere to do this and it will screw up their perfectly slick product interface/packing that is sometimes more form over function with apple.

i still love this thing though.

except when the SMS menu crashes :( hopefully a flash update maybe in a few months will fix these things...

#1050363Post 99 of 141

Re: 3G iPhone

actually this post kind of reiterates what is said and why cut and paste is missing:

Re: 3G iPhone

those features that were missing since the first iphone and its something that apple didnt bother to include in the new one even after users had been complaining about those missing 'features' from the the start ... it doesnt sound like they did a good job with the 2.0 firmware since u guys are having problems with it

2.0's main deal is the apps program... i think thats where they spent the majority of their time.

hopefully they will deal with the remaining problems in future firmware updeates... but who knows =\

i still enjoy my iphone... sure beats the hell out of my old razr.

Re: 3G iPhone

who fucking mms? that is so lame. Teenagers and only perverts mms. The cut and paste sucks, I agree, but that will be figured out in 2.0+.

Re: 3G iPhone

Kamal, it is a real keyboard. You just need to get used to it...

App Store rocks!
Am not much of an iPhone fan but the following additions/changes to it definitely have made me give it a second thought

 • 3G (nearly approaching wifi speeds)
 • GPS (merged with google everything)
 • $199 for 8 gb / $299 for 16 gb (latter being my choice)

I wish they had a real keyboard, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Posts like these come from folks who either:

 1. Haven't tried the iPhone.

 2. Don't have enough cash for the iPhone but are jealous of others who already have one.

The iPhone is a killer platform and using mine all the time at work I can tell you I've rarely needed copy and paste. If you're a business traveler maybe but for personal use copy and paste really hasn't been a necessity.

Re: 3G iPhone

http://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/24/apple-seeds-iphone-2-1-firmware-with-gps-features/
GearLive reports that Apple has seeded a beta version of iPhone 2.1 Firmware (Beta 1, Build 5F90) to developers.

According to the site, Apple has included new Core Location features that might suggest that turn-by-turn GPS could become a reality. Core Location can reportedly track your direction and the speed at which you are traveling.

Along with the new firmware, Apple has also seeded a new version of the iPhone SDK but the new SDK can not be used to submit Apps to the current App Store. There have been earlier reports that Firmware 2.0.1 had been spotted in the wild, but a 2.1 upgrade would presumably introduce more than just bug fixes.

Update: Besides Core Location speed and heading additions, Apple has also included early Push Notifications APIs that allows applications to process notifications in the background. Apple promised this feature by September.
Re: 3G iPhone

you know what is really pissing me off?

when you write an email, the send button is in the upper right, and cancel is in the upper left. but when you do a text message, the cancel button is where the send button is for email! so many times i've canceled things i wanted to send.

:lol::lol:

Welcome back Janky, how ya been...... actually I did have an iPhone for about a week.

For me, I do use copy and paste for the hosting a lot AND I also type when I'm driving  (which I do even more than I copy and paste) so for me, a virtual keyboard means more attention on the phone/distraction from all other things. The Qwerty keyboard and feeling my way around the keys is definitely easier. Not to mention I have only the bottom half of the phone to traverse with my thumb for 1 handed control instead of the entire phone. I'll give you that, the iPhone is a piece of work and revolutionized cellular phones..... but so far the only features that the iPhone has over the upcoming BB (bold) is the browser and screen size but the latter is a VERY capable phone (oh and probably gonna be $100 more than the base iPhone)

yup i heard about this. hopefully apple will get to the real deal soon, since you only can cut and paste inside this app its kind of useless, but good for a POC.

that will come in time.

i am sure you already heard about the app "NetShare"

allows you to use your iphone's 3G via a laptop.

by far one of the best apps released yet.

it was available thursday night and through friday... was pulled from itunes store twice.'
