Release candidate is out now and I installed it on my main PC. I uninstalled version 2, installed version 3 into the same dir and it re-imported all my passwords, favorites everything. And so much faster... it's kick ass.

Re: Firefox 3 RC

ff3 is much nicer definitely but i had to uninstall it and go back to ff2 'cos most of the add-ons that im using are not compatible with ff3 yet especially the megaupload add-on

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Coincidentally I was just about to look for an FF3 thread in here. Just installed it, keeping my FF2, running different profiles.

Some sites load up faster, some feels the same. Maybe overall rendering has sped up, but the ones that feel the same are limited by my connection.

Yeah most of my extensions don't work well with this which sucks :(

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Oh, I know how to use command line to create a shortcut in windows so FF starts with a specified profile, but any ideas how to do it on the mac??

[Found a workaround!]

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Nice! Going to have to get this thing going and see which extensions are compatible

Re: Firefox 3 RC

as expected, not many yet...

But this little guy is quick!

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Yeah, but you can force your existing extensions to work with FF3. There's a config hack, or you can install an extension called nightly tools or something.

Re: Firefox 3 RC

wow, you guys go deep with these programs. I didn't bother uninstalling the previous program. I just install the new one and leave it at that.

#1028074Post 9 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

^I'm running nightly builds that are probably more prone to fucking everything up so don't wanna risk losing my bookmarks and all the extensions after setting them up the way I want them :D

#1028114Post 10 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

"nightly builds"

yeah, i'm totally lost on that one.

you running a server?

#1028136Post 11 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Nah, nightly build are versions of FF3 that're most up to date as they're compiled every night based on any modifications or bugfixes to the work-in-progress code.
wow, you guys go deep with these programs. I didn't bother uninstalling the previous program. I just install the new one and leave it at that.
there's a bug with the beta/release candidates right now which will make FF unstable if you install FF 3 in the same directory as FF 2 IF you don't uninstall FF2 before installing FF3.

Re: Firefox 3 RC

boy they must be hard at work on the FF3 RCs. I just downloaded it at work (3 days after installing it at home) and the interface has definitely gotten a face-lift. Of course unless it somehow magically installs a diff skin on XP vs. Vista.

Though the one on XP does look a lot better AND [ms] loads like a SCREAMER on FF 3

#1028150Post 14 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Yeah nice and spiffy. The newer skins for FF3 on the Mac look sweet too.

#1028240Post 15 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

was reading my macworld mag the other day and they said right now people are using FF for the distribution of viruses more that actual IE nowadays. And Safari has the least of them all...but i still say that is from most people not liking it enough to switch from FF.

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Hmmm what kinda virus??

#1028434Post 17 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

yea I googled around and it seems, vista, VP and *Nix have different themese. XP is the best looking imo

Re: Firefox 3 RC

You're just biased :p;)

I'm using the Proto theme.

#1028448Post 19 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

its working without issues on RC? I might have to give it a go. I tried to do a search for FF3 themes and didn't find any.

naa not biases, I realy do like the XP theme a lot more. The icons are colored better and there is a horizontal separator between the address bar and my list of favorites that I have saved. This does not appear in the Vista theme and it looks cluttered without it.

Kamal: Just read RC2 is out, did you upgrade?

#1028736Post 25 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

thanks for the tip, doing it now

#1028750Post 26 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

my laptop at home didn't update to RC2 when I clicked on "Check for updates" but the one at work did. Will have to double check it when I get home.

#1034220Post 27 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

RC1 didn't do much for me...maybe because of some extensions still not working that I kind of like and I still had FF2 installed (not in same directory)...

I'll have to try a FEBE backup, uninstall FF2 and install FF3 RC2 now and see what I can get out of it...

#1034224Post 28 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

check that...it's now on RC3...

#1034233Post 29 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Final version out on June 17th. Actually I read they already worked out the software bugs in FF at RC2, and RC3 is released due to a bug on the Mac.

#1034421Post 30 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

ahhh beautiful. Backed up & uninstalled 2, installed 3rc3, imported everything OK, forced some extensions one at a time, found updates on a few others.

Works nicely! Canned a couple extensions that weren't working at this time, so will just wait for updates and I need a new theme now...other then that I love this new version...

This thing is fast.

Final version is out. I'm searching for optimised builds now!

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Hmmm cheers dude. Kinda confusing now. So the Minefield nightlies are ongoing and will include features being worked on for 3.1.

I found a website/thread on Mac:Intel optimised builds of FF, but now trying to workout if they're nightlies, or optimised version of the final v3.

Confusing!

Re: Firefox 3 RC

nice, liked it!.....

#1035161Post 36 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

well, considering 4.0 is technically next, but they're leaving room for the 3.xx builds in case that whole part gets way out of whack on its schedule.

Running MF 3.1 6-17 #4 right now. Works just fine. Many of the fixes are incredibly minor and cleanups, but good to sometimes note for now until the bigger bugs & problems start getting reported.

#1035162Post 37 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

I am on MF Build 2008061702 for the Mac. I am just wondering if using the official v3 release will give me better compatibility with the addons.

#1035173Post 38 of 68

Re: Firefox 3 RC

many add ons won't work with v3 as is...unless you override/force compatibility.

I found like 98% of the ones I had work just fine...so I trashed the others and will just wait for official updates on them.

Re: Firefox 3 RC

Well I'm running the new firefox now but everything looks bold? Anyone have the same problem? If someone posts a message and makes some of the text bold, I can't see it because EVERYTHING is bold now...?
