Re: hotmail accounts

my mom has the same problem from time to time. i would imagine that if their were connection issues it would effect only certain users... i.e. the users whose accounts are on the particular server that is screwed up.

Re: hotmail accounts

Hey, good to see some hotmail specialists around. Does anyone of u know how to use a hotmailaccount with an Emailclient? I cant find informations about pop3- and smtp-servers. Any suggestions ?

Thx Krauthead :-)

Re: hotmail accounts

my hotmail recently starts doing some glitches... like removing a couple of e-mails, then click back to inbox, and they appear again.

Re: hotmail accounts

Hotmail uses IMAP so you cant connect to it via an Email Client... though Outlook has settings in it that will let you connect via the Client

Oh cool, thx, didnt know that. And what u have to tell Outlook to get it work, an Imapserveraddress ? I use Mozilla-thunderbird, it also can handle Imap. Isnt Imap just a replacement for pop3 and u still need smtp ?

Greetings

Krauthead :)

Re: hotmail accounts

Outlook 2003 is real easy to set up for hotmail... when you create a new account, there's an option for HTTP email. Click it and select Hotmail from the dropdown, provide your username and password, and you're all set.

no, IMAP isnt another replacement of POP3, its a completely different protocol, since POP3 is for incoming, SMTP is for outgoing, however IMAP handles all emails (incoming and outgoing) on its own.... it doesnt need SMTP (more like wont work with it)

Re: hotmail accounts

microsoft announced earlier this year that they will start charging people who use outlook express to check their hotmail. don't know what happened since then.

#479722Post 30 of 48

Re: hotmail accounts

just a rumor, there is no reason to start charging.... there is no cost to use it because its not a uniqe feature.... since they already charge for Outlook 2003, I dont see what additional cost they are incurring to use the feature

Re: hotmail accounts

just found the article, it was all the way back in 2004, from pcpro.

Monday 27th September 2004 Microsoft closes Hotmail to Outlook and Outlook Express users 1:20PM From today, new users of Microsoft's Outlook and Outlook Express won't be able to view Hotmail emails for free. The company has announced that in future the service will only be available to subscribers of the MSN premium services costing $19.95. Microsoft says that it has been forced to make the change because it has seen an increase in spammers exploiting WebDAV - the protocol that allows consumers to access their MSN Mail or Hotmail messages from within Microsoft Office Outlook or Outlook Express - to send unsolicited emails.

Redmond says that it has made the 'tough' decision to make this protocol - and its functionality for its email clients - subscription only. The change comes into effect today for new users. Existing users can continue to view their Microsoft Hotmail with Microsoft clients for free until the spring of next year.

Of course, MSN doesn't sell premium services in the UK even though British users of WebDav will be affected by the change. Microsoft UK says that there are a number of changes 'pending' to MSN, but is making no further comments on the decision at present

Re: hotmail accounts

what a load of shit Microsoft throws out.... they limit the number of members in a mailing list group to 50 and then say to reduce the amount of spam.... just another ruse to milk the masses imo

Re: hotmail accounts

i think this is just the beginning, microsoft will be charging for all their services in the future. I bet a "pay-for" service MSN messenger is on its way...
