Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
i checked that out a couple days ago on the net. pretty cool. my bro has an archos player and he is really happy with his. you might want to check that out as well if you are looking to buy something like this.
http://www.archos.com/products/overview/av700_interface.html
they also got some other neat products.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
that is very nice, dont see a price anywhere though so that cant be good, probably around 250$ for one of those or higher.... ;)

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
the 20 gig is 299, the 30 gig is 349
nice product there...
the 20 gig is 299, the 30 gig is 349
Well fuck. That's the same price as my iPod. I should've gotten one of these, although I would kill anybody if they took my iPod.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
 awesome! thanks for the info.. probably gonna get one of these when i go to the states
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
Yeah, seems like a cool product....
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
It does seem like a nice piece of gear. A lot better than that Iriver 20gig drive.
The only thing is they better be thinking of reducing their prices to compete with Apples Ipod. If you wanna beat them you have to be slightly lower priced than they are.
I like that you can use it for a line in recording too and movie viewing.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
This is already beating the ipod in features, which, to me, is the most important thing.
Plus, i'm right sick of this ipod/itune/ifuckedyourmom thing.

Isn't this thing called the iAudio?
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
It supports MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV files, as well as FLAC (a lossless compressed codec). The first player in Korea to support this format, and only the second in the world!
SOLD!!!!!
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
iThinkSo
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
sounds like it has the same features as the IRiver H20 or H40 :D
anyone wanna buy my 20gb Nomad Zen for about $299 or $349 :?: :NotMe:
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
Interesting...now I'm torn between keeping my Ipod or upgrading to this. :?
does it come with the gal? :Naughty:

This looks like the best product I've seen yet. I've been a fan of Irivers up until now, but bang for the buck this is the way to go.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
WOW i thought the i river was "the" option, very very nice item... :Bingo: thanks for the link man.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the line-in recording mean you could plug it into a mixer and record a mix similar to a MD?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the line-in recording mean you could plug it into a mixer and record a mix similar to a MD?
Yep same as you've been able to do with the iRiver products (except this has more to offer).

Hell yeah, maybe I can finally record a concert and post it on dimeadozen.org!!!! :P
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
iPod, iRiver, iAudio, iTunes...
Why must all these products from different companies begin with the letter i?
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
looks very nice with all those features and color. Suddenly my ipod isnt seeming so cool..why'd you have to post this?! :|
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
WOW i thought the i river was "the" option, very very nice item... :Bingo: thanks for the link man.
looks like the iriver except with the option to record directly from radio and see pretty pictures while playing music...or maybe i'm just in denial because i am getting set in my ways and love my iriver...
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
Knock Knock, FYI... Why do you think that the only kind of ipods you can buy from apple (aside from minis/shuffles) are all "photos" as in full color LCD and 20 gig or 60 gig? They all have the hardware needed to do basically eveything cept maybe the line in function, and its entirely software driven, so all that would be needed would be a new software update with video drivers in it.... If only I knew someone who worked in computers and knew if this was going to happen pretty soon.......? hmmmmm... Oh wait, I work in computers, don't I? But where would I find some place or someone that knows a lot about videos, like music videos? Like the kind they play on MTV, or VH1.... I guess I could just ask someone at work tomorrow, since I'll already be there anyway....
I'll stop there, but if you knew how much more close to home my department and job have to do with the future of this very topic, you'd be laughing as hard as I am (I am laughing cause it took me more than a few minutes to fully connect the two in my mind)
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
puff puff give mike.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
puff puff give mike.
I'll fuck up the rotation and avoid publicly posting any information that probably wouldn't matter.... but in the remote chance it did... and I could get in trouble at work or worse for posting something about anything that somebody regards as confidential (yet its no secret in reality). No post is worth that much...
But if you want to speculate, I will tell you that primarily my job revolves around installing, maintaining, and testing/tweaking all of the hardware and software for systems used in digital video editing and capture/encoding/compression.... and to keep a fuckload of server storage space that is for holding digital video content running and growing in size to accomadate any archived video that hadnt yet been digitized from the master tapes yet... that sort of thing, like making sure the Palm Pilot is ready and gonna be good to hold everything that was building up over the years in that big organizer until you started using the PDA... but before very recently you had everything in that filofax, and until very very recently, you didnt have a real NEED to have it all digitally at your fingertips cause you knew it would still be there....
Remember the word Microcosm from english class? I like it...
another good word is Foreshadowing....

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
Actually made me giggle a little, only a little mind
Perhaps you could say which product you think is best in terms of spec/price/futureproofing? And give some "insider" reasons?
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
The ipod will be the basis for content providers when deciding upon which platform to designate as the default format, or in other words, if you havent heard of a company before now, and you have faith that they will beat out apple in the market of portable digital music/a/v devices even though apple already has the hardware out and its no longer even 1st generation on its color photo model, just cause the other company's player does video now.... good luck.... But I think, and this is just me making a very business-like guess... It might be wise to hold out on launching a release and putting the $ into marketing it without a very large database of content that you intend to be able to charge for and not disapoint / discourage potential customers by offering very little selection/lackluster content that might spoil consumer level of interest and excitement, and overall jealousy factor i suppose... It should be like with original Ipod, you saw one and just needed to get one of those things, except mp3's were everywhere already, and the itunes music store was 2 years away at least. And other than music videos, what content will people actually want to watch and/or pay to see on that little screen?
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
I don't have any kind of MP3 player as yet, but thanks for that Mike - I agree with you on the screen / video thing, don't really see the point in carrying round a little telly.
I was holding out for a very small 40-50 Gb MP3/WMA player, I still think the ones out today are just a little too big.
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
mike...
i don't care much about the video, and that color screen...
i'd be getting it for one reason...
a small portable seemingly awesome recording device.
i'm not one of those people who walks out of the house and puts earbuds in my dome immediately. i've got a Dell 20gig, and it's cool, but i never use it.
if it recorded, i wouldn't even have posted this message, and i'd be done looking at these things.
Iriver vs. this thing: is what it's boiling down to for me.

Living in NYC and not having a car, i walk nearly everywhere, so ipod on my at all times if I can help it... As for portable recording devices, I have an ibook thats small enough to put in almost any bag and function as a hell of a lor more than any of these devices, and with multiple software recording capabilities and options...
in the end, I never fucking record jack shit anywhere so I dont see that as a big selling point for myself, and if I am out spinning I would defintely be using ableton, or at the very least integrating traktor with CD's and digitally grabbing it all on the powerbook... I guess I just like recording the old fashioned way, digitally with 2 gigs of ram and a 100gig HD through firewire.... Ya know? OLDSKooL
Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
For those who think that the Ipod is just for music... you should go down to your local Mac store and check out those teaching days that they have down there. I went to one. And even though i don't own anything by apple. I checked it out and was very suprised by all the things you can do with your ipod. Do you know you can download all your e-mail into it and read it while you are out? That's only one thing. You can apparently also use it for business purposes too. I was quite suprised at all the things this lady was pointing out.
Now if it would only do line in recording. That way I don't have to have a laptop with me when I wanna record a set. Especially because I don't have a laptop.
