Wow, so like, can you work that magic of yours all the time......? I mean like, can u point out the blatantly obvious for any member who posts, and like in real life u can tell the weather just by going outside and stuff? You have an amazing gift, don't abuse the power that comes with that.... the repercussions could be devastating if you dont respect the responsibility that comes with that power....

I'm gonna go to crobar tonight for mauro picotto cause i got a comp and its an open bar for 2 hours, and the last time I heard him spin it was for 20 minutes at Twilo cause I got kicked out at that point (this was fall 2000 I beileve) and if thats not something to celebrate, then a 5 day birthday weekend fuckin is.... NYC'ers hit me up, I'll probably be hosting some crazy house parties this weekend when not at steve porter i bet.....

spontaneity is the spice of rife

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...
The ipod will be the basis for content providers when deciding upon which platform to designate as the default format, or in other words, if you havent heard of a company before now, and you have faith that they will beat out apple in the market of portable digital music/a/v devices even though apple already has the hardware out and its no longer even 1st generation on its color photo model, just cause the other company's player does video now.... good luck.... But I think, and this is just me making a very business-like guess... It might be wise to hold out on launching a release and putting the $ into marketing it without a very large database of content that you intend to be able to charge for and not disapoint / discourage potential customers by offering very little selection/lackluster content that might spoil consumer level of interest and excitement, and overall jealousy factor i suppose... It should be like with original Ipod, you saw one and just needed to get one of those things, except mp3's were everywhere already, and the itunes music store was 2 years away at least. And other than music videos, what content will people actually want to watch and/or pay to see on that little screen?
I think your partially right but I think things will revolve around standard codecs (MP4, divx etc.) and as long as the lesser known companies support them this should be a non-issue. I think it would be foolish of Apple to not embrace current standards- just look at how Sony faired with their proprietary codec.

Secondly also something common with the smaller companies that apple lacks is the ability to upgrade firmware. I consider this to be a huge advantage for the little guy. IF formats do change they have a good chance of making the switch. That said I do think Apple will remain dominant in the market due to their marketing, but to get the most out of your dollar I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Even if your not planning to use the line in features, tuner (and ability to record it), or video player why would you not get it if the price was the same and it was a quality product?

Yet another reason not to by an Ipod is DRM. Alternate products tend to can be compliant but also offer ways around it. I have yet to see the same from Apple. In the end it comes down to what fits your needs but with so many options out there I can't see why anyone would buy an Ipod- industry standard or not.

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

It supports MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV files, as well as FLAC (a lossless compressed codec). The first player in Korea to support this format, and only the second in the world!
SOLD!!!!!
Statement retracted.

After further research I have found that the only FLAC compression levels is supports are 0 (wouldn't that be a .wav :? ), 1 and 2. The highest level is not really all that much smaller than .wav, so those options are all but useless. Who wants to have to reencode their files just to go on their player?? :x So what started as a sell point ends up being a breaking point. Damn, I wanted to finally get a portable player. Oh well, keep watching and waiting. :|

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

I have 4G 20gb iPod and i'm happy with it and all...but i'm not going to carry on and be a militant Apple product owner about it.

At the end of the day, it's all about who makes the best product and offers the best value...

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

^^ True that, fuck loyalties. Some people wanna make the iPod out to be God's gift to music. It does what it does, nothing more. I personally think anything that supports only 3 formats, 2 of them proprietary, is a waste of money.

^ Dont tell that to e.

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

CURRENTLY supports 3 formats.... Currently being the keyword.... Apple is not a company that is much in the way of stagnant or anti-progress... and before anyone accuses me of sucking Apple's dick they should be aware that my roomate is a developer for them and quality is the key concern before the roll out of "big" changes... My bet is you will not see a lot of different video formats but the ones you wont will be the shitty kind anyway (shitty ones besides WMA and RM) but if a player that plays anything regardless of it's compression quality is what floats your boat, or is more suited towards your specific needs I say go for it, but don't trash something that's mass marketed and shooting for quality before it gains the multi-functionality of these other new goodies. And remember how ugly or crappy the interfaces were on older players until the iPod's simplicity and design paved the path for the look and feel of the quality new divices we are now beginning to see a lot more of... If only they got the battery issues taken care of sooner I'd have even more of a positive review for apple, but what can u do?

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

I'd most likely get one if they lowered their prices by $50 on each of the models. The 30 gig does not need to be $100 more than the 20 and then you've got a 60 gig that is only $50 more than the 30. I'll wait and eventually get one. No hurry for me. I still like my cd players.

Re: Goodbye IPOD/IRiver/etc etc...

Finally looks like a decent replacement for the JB3 as far as overall features, especially the line in recording. If this has 98db S/N this is a no brainer. The FLAC support alone makes this my probable next purchase!!!
