Seeing the inevitable (i.e. I'm getting one), thought of starting a thread asking what folks are hearing of the upcoming rumors. So far what I've heard,

 • Slightly bigger battery
 • Better camera
 • Dual flash camera LED
 • iOS 7 (boring)
 • and today's fresh rumor - a larger screen (4.3" vs 4")

I hope they don't end up with this

Rumor that fingerprint sensor will cause delay.

And I forgot about the possibility of a 128 GB iPhone coming in, considering the iPads are now up to 128 GB.
so still tryin to catch up with android then? :)
you know, I thought long and hard about this comment since the day you posted this.

Honestly, I'm not just saying it, having gone through a slew of high-end Android devices and a (presently) mediocre iPhone 4 (with iOS 6 and 7 beta installed recently), I came away feeling a lot more "satiated" with IOS than Android. I can't explain it, but the sense of security knowing that 10 different manufacturers with scrupulous intentions couldn't have some retarded backdoor hacking away my passwords made me more comfortable with it (Huawei and God knows who else is in on it, in this near Third World War era we live in).

That and the fact that iOS's more stringent app requirements make for a safer / secure platform in a post-prism / anonymous world (heck even DOD admits they have a nightmare with iMessage). Moreover, iOS still performs relatively smooth on my older hardware and the massive adoption of Apple products by family and friends makes it a relatively easy no-brainer to switch to.

Don't get me wrong, Android 4.2.2 on my HTC One is just silk, but it doesn't make me "feel" like iOS does...

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

I don't own an Android but this reminds me of the PC vs Mac days back in the 80s.

Android/PC: Versatility, more open, power users love it, but infinitely more fragmented.

iPhone/Mac: More focused, more polished, a cohesive ecosystem, less tinkering.

I would've enjoyed Android more back in the days when I was building PCs and overclocking them. These days I have less power-user requirements and the iPhone works for me.

The Android fragmentation is a huge barrier to me too.

Very nicely put.... I am always at a loss for explanation as to why I still use my iPhone and iTouch over any other Android device or mp3 player... although I am secretly rooting for Android, I have yet to be won over. I have a friend who thinks I am crazy to stick with the iPhone 5, since she's picked up her Galaxy S4

But I'm always tempted by Android. And now the Moto X.

That temptation will die 2 days after your 30 day return policy.

Rumored launch date Sept 20 with two models, presumably S and C.

#1697783Post 17 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

Sept 10 event confirmed by Apple. Fingers crossed they launch an iPhone 6 with iPhone 5C.

#1697786Post 18 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

Isn't it almost definitely the S and C? I haven't read any mentions of 6 at all. There're even spec leaks like the new chip being 31% faster. I hope they announce new iPads.

#1697787Post 19 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

It is the iPhone 5S but I'm praying for the 6 instead.

I think I'll finally get an iPad so I can read comics and use it in the toilet

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

iPad Mini FTW. It's the perfect tablet size.

#1697845Post 24 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

Really? I was going for the full-size ... easier to read comics without zooming around too much. I already have a Kindle which is the size of an iPad Mini (I think) for reading.

#1697852Post 25 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

I own a full sized gen 2 and played around with the iPad-mini - it get's tiring holding the full-size one over a few hours of reading / watching youtube and your wrist hurts. Plus with a higher pixel density, viewing pages isn't that far off on the smaller size.

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

Anyone tuning in?

#1698196Post 31 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

I am listening to the podcast on CNET, Fingerprint sensor, dual flash, 64 BIT A7 processor, 3 colors (White, Champagne, and Grey), M7 motion tracking dedicated chip, 5-element lens with a sensor size that is 15 percent larger and acks in a f/2.2 aperture, 120fps slow-motion camera, iPhone 5C has been announced, I missed the part of the specs, no info on the 128 GB storage one. Wonder what the "One more thing" section of the reveal will present.

Launch date is September 20 for both models.

#1698197Post 32 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

iPad fingers crossed.

The spec, it's supposedly 5x faster than the previous, which is way more than the 31% I read about  Oh and A7 is 64-bit.

I'm shocked that the 5S still has no NFC. Fingerprint sensor + NFC + iTunes account for mobile purchases, Apple could've swooped in and own mobile commerce.

Yup. Only iPhone 5S and C.

#1698210Post 36 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

so its not quite caught up to the HTC one or the Galaxy s4 but it does have a finger print scanner?

40 times faster than the first iphone though? Damn.

#1698217Post 37 of 87

Re: Apple iPhone 5S

I'm expecting user reports of the fingerprint scanner not working well ... I wonder what happens if it fails and locks you out of your phone, wonder if there's a passcode backup to unlock the phone.

This is EXACTLY what I thought when I was tuned into the podcast. NSA/PRISM is gonna have a FIELD day with this. Even if there would be a way to disable it, you just would never know. With google laying in bed with legs spread open as well, there just isn't any sure-shot way to conceal your privacy anymore.
