this will be my first one. found a roundtrip flight from new orleans for $204. then the mother told me she had some frequent flyer miles i could use, so $5 later and i'm on my way!
i'll be with friends that go every year, but i want the insight of MS. so what do i need to know?

Get a bunch of sleep before you go if you can...
It's much cheaper to get a hotel in NB (cleaner and quiet too) 10 minutes from SB.
Maybe I'll see you there...;)

but the money you save on a hotel you piss away in cab fare
stay on sobe, you can walk every where you need to go, and there are actually good hotel deals if you start looking NOW

sobe is south beach.. lok at hotels on collins, ocean or washington
last two years we had a suite that was about 250.00 a night, but it slept 6 i think.. had a seperate bedroom, kitchen, living room.. it was a like an apt.. adam saw it when we stayed there in 2006
suites of dorchester.. right on collins and about 18th <<<< which is right around where you want to be..once you start getting up into the 40's and higher street number wise, you'll be dumping a load of cash into taxis, or have really really sore feet

money may prevent me from spending a week in south beach (no shit) but completely missing wmc may be too much for me to handle, so chances are i will catch the fri and sat night line ups and do my annual 5 hour drive up to tampa at 5 am sunday morning

i had my own car with me and took a taxi only a few times, then again I also stayed a few nights on the 9th floor of the Shelborne Hotel looking over the ocean and all the parties below!

Ah...lucky you Bender! I def recommend staying in South Beach (SoBe) where Steve G says. You'll pretty much be in walking distance to most of the parties. We stayed on Washington and 15th and had no need for a cab at all, except for Digweed at the Vagabond. Also, I found it really useful to get tickets in advance for the parties you really want to go to and I had absolutely no problems with line-ups or not getting in. I was quite surprised at how civilized it all was. Get on guestlists as well. But you'll never have a problem being spontanious and having a great time too! I believe it was the tranceaddict forum that had the most extensive event listings. I referred to it a lot!! And yes...get some sleep befor ya go!

thanks guys! yea, things are tight for me financially as well. i'm just hoping i can save up enough by then. i may have to curb the alcohol intake on weekends for a while!

Finally a year with no work conflicts need, need suite info for hotel in Sobe, wed-sat, suggestions, bringing massive residue from Phish Hampton shows in early March, beware.

I'd say wed-sat or sunday.. the earlier in the week the dj's are more energised lol I've always tried to get there for the 1st day or two.. seems as though a lot of impromptu stuff happens early, plus the danny howells 80's parties from what i hear are great fun and that is normally the 1st or 2nd day of conference

I've gone every year, and staying through Monday actually. Some of the Sunday parties are awesome... especially Sunday School for Degenerates... leaving Monday allows for cheaper flights, and some downtime before you head back to reality. But you have to balance that with an extra night of hotel stay. I prefer chilling out with friends on Sunday nite... unwinding....

I went for my first time last year and these are my thoughts....
Be ready to spend a ridiculous amount of money, on random shit. Everything there is insanely expensive.
Look up the parties you wanna go to and find a decent hotel close to those. You do not want to be taking a taxi, it is gay-rapingly expensive and I ran into a few that even tried to get more money out of me when it was busy at night. Going back and forth from Sobe & downtown is a nightmare. I actually walked / ran across the bridge one night lol
Bring your own liqour. Don't lose your luggage or ID in Miami. ;)
Get lots of rest before hand and maybe schedule your sleep patterns to night-owl status. I was waking up @ 4pm and staying out to like 10am lol.
Have one of the best times of your life!

I think aside from drinks at the clubs and entrance fees to shite holes like space and mansion, the money thing is hugely overstated.. most of the restaurants, even on ocean, have great food and the meals are NOT that expensive.. granted I can drive there so that saves money.. but even in 2006 when I was in south beach for 7 days including hotel I think I barely spent more than $1000
and if you do your research and book your room before january you can get some really good deals. first year we stayed at the suites we just asked for a discount and got something like 15% of each night.
here's a little tid bit that might help save some cash though.. if you drive and park you car in the garage whilst youre there, "lose" your parking ticket and you'll only get charged for one day ;) we did that a couple of years ago and stayed for 5 days and paid about 13.00 for parking :)

Regarding drinks I found the most bang for your buck is to get mixed drinks. They freepour the alcohol which, by my eye is about 3 ounces for between 8 to 12 bucks. Beers were 8 to 10 bucks.

this is my first year ever going...we're there from the 23rd to the 30th
staying on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive in a condo that backs out on to the beach 8)
really really looking forward to this!! will have to plan some meetups as it gets a bit closer.
