Music Happens in Miami Beach, March 24 – 28, 2009 at the 24th Annual Winter Music Conference.

Last year, 2,211 artists and DJs participated in over 537 total events presented across the greater Miami area during WMC week. Founded in 1985 as a platform for the advancement of the music industry, the WMC program includes seminars, meetings, receptions and parties throughout the week with personalities and innovators from all aspects of the business worldwide. Q&As and technical hardware/software demonstrations will be highlighted each day. Last year's program featured 227 panelists and speakers participating in more than 80 meetings, seminars, workshops and demonstrations. Overall more than 62,000 participants and 3,726 delegates from 70 countries attended, making it the largest industry program of its kind in the world. Expect an even larger turn out for 2009.

Highlights of the 2009 program will include the IDMA’s (International Dance Music Awards), also in it’s 24th consecutive year, where the music business converges to honor the achievements of industry, artists and innovators in 50 categories. Voting will begin in November. WMC will also present the 2nd edition of South Beach Sessions, a bold new perspective on the traditional WMC panel program. Founded on the principles that make music compelling – individual expression, empowerment, creative thinking and collaboration – the program’s mission is to create greater exposure for artists and ideas. South Beach Sessions explores new inroads where music and art are flourishing and making a courageous difference in the world. Pioneers in music, art, fashion, technology, business, education, the environment and more convene for one of the most inspiring and epic programs of the week. WMC 2009 will host the 3rd edition of the Record Collector’s Show - an international hub for buyers, sellers and traders of rare and collectible vinyl, tapes, and music memorabilia which assembles the best record dealers and features some of the rarest music in the country. Listed below are contacts for performance & DJ participation, panels, marketing/sponsorship opportunities and press relations, so you can now begin planning your participation at WMC 2009 and take advantage of early registration, marketing and hotel discounts while they last.

Don’t miss out on a legendary Winter Music Conference week in Miami Beach. Re: Wmc 2009

To all that have been there before.

How far away is.. Hyatt Regency Miami 400 South East Second Avenue, Miami, Florida, USA

I was thinking of staying here. And see that it is about 2 miles from Space...which is walking distance. But how far is that from the other festivities?

Re: Wmc 2009

Actually I just saw how far it was away from Collins Ave, Where it seems that most of the events take place around there.

Re: Wmc 2009

It looks too far away from SoBe. It'll be a pain in the ass for travelling to most of the parties. Would you not rather be closer to the action? The cab fares can get expensive going from downtown miami to south beach but their transit system isn't too bad. I preferred being in the thick of it. We practically walked everywhere.

How ironic. Collins Avenue.

Re: Wmc 2009

Staying in SOBE can be really expensive for room and board, I usually stay downtown as I can stay in a much, much, much nicer hotel and have cheap places to eat nearby. I am saying at a 5 star hotel this year in downtown for 168/ngt - wherreas this callibre of hotel in SOBE is closer to 500.00/ngt
I just take a cab down to SOBE and stay there until sunrise, go back to hotel and repeat. Cab fare is usually $10 to $15 each way.

Re: Wmc 2009

yep, somewhere around Collins in SoBe is the place to be - and farther down, like below Hispaniola. You'll have some events downtown, and if you have half a brain you'll go to Sunday School at Pawn Shop, but that's the few times you'll want to be in a cab...otherwise, walk. It's of course more expensive on Collins, but it's Miami. It's how they do, particularly during WMC.

Or you could save your money and go to DEMF or Mutek, if you have decent taste in music...

Re: Wmc 2009

oh yeah, i wanna make a sincere effort to try n make it out this year, it would be my first.

Re: Wmc 2009

plus you dont really want to be walking around downtown miami, its a bit dodgy, especailly near Space, and Space is probably the worst club out of everything that goes on during WMC anyway

we stay on Collins and around 17th and pay approx. 245.00 a night for a suite that sleeps 6.. a seperate bedroom with 2 double beds and pull out couch that sleeps 2.. a full kitchen, dining room and living room.. and the bar by the pool has 2 for 1 drinks from like 5-8pm :)

Sound economic thinking in the current climate - if you can put up with 6 of you that's circa £20 a night !

#1102425Post 11 of 43

Re: Wmc 2009

the place is big enough where its not that difficult really, plus everybody is basically on different schedules rarely are all 6 on the place at once..

Re: Wmc 2009

yeah, I'm only going for 3 or 4 days this time.. not even 100% if I am going yet or not tbh

Re: Wmc 2009

I'd recommend staying in South beach. Staying on the beach is better if you want to hit up the pool parties, the beach itself and clubs in south beach. Only advantage I see from staying downtown is being close to Space, Nocturnal, etc. A pretty rough area of town at night as someone mentioned. Simply take the cab ride over to downtown and probably safer. May take awhile getting there though if there's traffic.

If you want to stay on the beach amongst the action and reasonably priced, try the Surfcomber on Collins.

Re: Wmc 2009

Thanks, I saw that Surfcomber hotel which looks nice. But with it's prices I'd love to have a friend or two staying with me so that it's not as bad a price.

Re: Wmc 2009

i've been to wmc for the last 5 years & last year was the 1st time i stayed at the beach plaza hotel...it was awesome! the basic nyc day parties are held there during the day so if you're into booty shakin house such as mark farina, dj heather, etc...this is the hotel you wanna be at

if my villa plan falls through i'll definitely be at the beach plaza again!

Re: Wmc 2009

i'd go to DEMF, but really just for the regular people that you always can find in Detroit. Saunderson, Atkins, May etc.

I'm really trying for this year and am looking for that hotel first. Need to call some friends to see what they are doing before I make any other moves. But Sunday School is what I'm really interested in.

Re: Wmc 2009

I'm going to italy this march, skipping WMC.

Burning Man and Lovefest I wouldn't miss ever again though.

if you are really into techno. they don't have much more than that there. and the stuff they call techno today isn't much like the techno of the 90's...it's becoming easy listening. ;-)

Any idea why they decided to do that?

#1109051Post 39 of 43

Re: Wmc 2009

I'm guessing its because they had a lot of issues last year with permits and hotels supposedly not having the right ones to operate parties, basically its a money thing, the owners of the hotels pay certain people to let them have these lobby and/or rooftop parties .. the chesterfield had most of its rooftop parties cancelled because they apparently had an outdoor permit, but not a rooftop one, lol.. its south ebach and a lot of shady bs

the shelley had 2 days of lobby parties cancelled and one had to be moved to the whitelaw during the actual party.. the guys from Real Time Hand Motion were actually carrying gear down collins to the whitelaw after having their party stopped.. the people throwing the party at the whitelaw let them share the venue at least, lol

by the way if you like nice deep funk type house, Real Time Hand Motion <<<< check them out http://www.realtimehandmotion.com/rthm-lite/
