They played a hell of a game!!!!!! 3rd biggest blowout in a #1 vs. #2 match up. Anyone think that Auburn would have made it a better game?

#332001Post 2 of 29

poor sooners. they should have known what they were going up against when they took on the uni of spoiled children ;) ;P

Hard to say. OU played like they were the Northeastern Central South Dakota State University Fighting Bumble Bees or something. White picked off 3 times? If it was just one you could make the argument that it was a bad throw, etc. but 3? USC's defense read him like a children's book. I definitely think Auburn should have had a chance. Say OU vs. Auburn (#2 vs. #3) and winner plays USC (#1) for the National Championship. Only problem with that would be the crap you'd hear from Utah and Boise State.

I just wish I'd have thrown some money down last year after LSU & USC were crowned co-national champions when I said to all the people around me "You watch, USC WILL win the National Championship next year."

I think they would have for sure. And again this proves how weak the Big XII is. Going undefeated thru the SEC is alot more impressive than the Big XII.. not that the Pac 10 is that much better.

wish I had seen this game tho, i had to work. when i was on break it was 7-0 sooners... then i went on dinner break and it was 48-10

I wouldn't say that Tech got stomped, nor would I say that the SEC is an elite conference. The SEC definitely ranks up there near the Big Ten but lacks the nationwide enthusiasm and history.

#332022Post 7 of 29

what tech are you talking about in the SEC?

I think he was referring to Va Tech being beaten by Auburn.

hahaha... big ten? come on, really? the only two football teams worth a damn in there anymore is michigan and ohio state. even wisconsin isn't that great. the big ten does have history, but in the the sec, you've got four top 15 teams and a handful of others that aren't to be taken for granted.

and what a fucking LAME game last night. OU sucks.

Elite status isn't spawned overnight, nor does it come solely because of a winning record. Take note of the reasons why I would choose the Big 10: nationwide enthusiasm and history.

If you want to go by win/loss then the Big 10 wins 2005 with a .550 compared to the SEC's .547. If you want to compare bowls: each conference had 6 bowl appearances, the Big 10 had a 4-2 record while the SEC finished with a 3-3 record. Overall, the Big 10 boasts 26 National Championships in College Football (which excludes the 1 by Penn State prior to their joining the conference) and the SEC has won 21 (not including the 1 by Arkansas prior to their joining).

I went to Florida so I'm not anti-SEC, I'm just trying to remain objective.

The ACC finished with an even .500 winning percentage for bowl games (3-3).

Re: Congrats to USC

It is hard for me to be happy for the USC Trojans win last night for the simple fact that I have lost some money (not much $50) betting against them. In my head I saw banners "Trojans got creamed?. However, my pathetic gambling problem should not take anything away from their amazing season. Watching OU performance last night it is hard to argue that any other team will probably put up a better show against USC. I went to ESPN Sports Zone to watch some of the game after Wizards last night, but the game was pretty much over 28:10, on top of that ESPN Sports Zone has that stupid ?Sold Out Rule?, I have never heard of such a travesty, you suppose to spend $10 per hour per person to stay in there, I would have probably spend that much if I have stayed there, but that ?Prison Rule? they implemented there got me totally turned off.

In terms of the best conference it has to be ACC now: Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Miami has been the best programm in college football for decades.

what do you think about urban meyer replacing the zookie monster? i'm anxious to see if he does as good a job with FL as he didd the utes. i only watched two uteah games - the one where they tore up my aggies and their bowl game against pitt. they have a lot of sheer talent on that team. i think the Utah qb would run circles around chris leak.

I was one of the few Gator fans that was truely disappointed in the way the Zook situation was handled. Now that what's done is done though, I think Meyer and the Gators are going to have a terrific year next year.

Next year we will finally begin to see what Zook's recruiting class is capable of; and Urban Meyer will get all the credit. If Florida's season turns out to be a good one, I won't be able to help but draw comparisons to what happened in Tampa Bay when Tony Dunge was booted out of town and Jon Gruden won the Super Bowl. The wrong guy has gotten the credit.

As for Leak vs. Smith, that's hard to say. Utah played only 1 team ranking in the Top 25 of Total Defense (24. New Mexico) and none of their opponents were in the Top 25 of Passing Defense. Florida played 4 teams ranked in the Top 25 of Total Defense (3. LSU, 5. FSU, 12. Georgia, 20. South Carolina). Of the teams Florida played, 5 are in the Top 25 for Passing Defense (3. LSU, 9. Miami, 12. Miss St., 16. South Carolina, 17. Georgia). As for individual numbers, Smith and Leak finished comparable. The only statistic that stands out is the fact that Smith only threw 4 interceptions all year - could it have been the defenses he was playing against?

That?s my team. We had an off season but we still are the best in the state!!! Could you imagine if Leinart, Busch, and white all return nest year for USC??? Their two running backs are sophomores and could most likely be drafted in the top 10-15 picks off the draft if they went pro

judging from your comments and ranking listings, the SEC looks pretty strong to me. :D

and its funny you should bring up the dungee vs gruden comparison. just because that was also based in florida, i was thinking the exact same thing. dungee got screwed there. maybe you florida people absorb too much sun and are too impatient. :EatMe:

The SEC is a VERY strong conference, I just don't think I'd go throwing around the label 'ELITE' to describe it...yet. As for the Florida thing, you know how it goes: money talks, bullshit walks. The Glazers are self-righteous and the Bull Gators (Gator Alumni) are no better.

the cgame started out nice, but then seemed like every time i turned around, the usc was lobbing up passes with someone pulling them down.

how is losing 16-13 getting stomped?

either way, auburn wouldn't stand a chance against sc...any college team would lose. as long as there is bcs, there is always debate regardless of who is clearly #1. jason white looks like another eli manning in waiting for pros

#332608Post 23 of 29

not any team would lose... if you remember, usc almost lost several games this year. given the right team at the right time, usc would lose. ou just wasn't on their game... notorious to choke, but even if they choked i think usc was looking in fine form last night.

and auburn dominated that whole game in the sugar bowl. va tech just made a surge at the game's end to make it close and interesting at least.

#332612Post 24 of 29

Re: Congrats to USC

dominating 3 qtrs but giving up 13 in the 4th...more like held on is what happened. the fact is sc didn't lose any close games like auburn didn't lose the sugar bowl. this has more to do with better play calling and defensive schemes than just athleticism. i'm sure a matchup with sc and auburn this year could be close though...unlike the 23-0 pounding sc gave em at the start of the 2003 season.

Thats why the BCS SUCKS ASS!!!!!! why is NCAA football the only sport without a playoff format?

Division 1-A is the only one without a playoff system. Both 2-A and 3-A have wonderful playoff systems.

True but 1-A is the main one. It seems that nobody would care if 2-A had 3 undefeated teams at the end of the season.

Re: Congrats to USC

Without a doubt USC is # 1. Auburn and Utah had good seasons, but wouldn't beat USC either. Too bad there isn't a playoff system to settle this BCS crap.

As for the best conferences, imo, it's Big 10 or SEC every year. ACC is a good conference now too. Big 12 was good a few years go. PAC10 is weak except for USC. Cal really made the PAC10 look bad after that ass kicking they took from TX tech.

cal is a good team that got beat but not wanting to play in the holiday bowl. aaron rodgers is a stud. that guy will be a first round pick in the nfl and possibly the best qb prosepct coming out of the draft this year. his release is the best since marino.
