For that I'll give you this:

However, there a lot of matches yet to be played, so we'll see where things shake out in due time. Go worry about Chelsea! :p

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Tough loss today. Liverpool couldn't get any sustainable momentum going at any point in the match. Slowly but surely Arsenal started getting more and more chances as the game wore on, and sure enough in the 72nd minute Diaby heads one hard into net off a beaty of a cross from Rosicky :what

Few thoughts:

 • I'm so tired of seeing Degen get run on the pitch. can someone explain to me why Rafa uses him?

 • Is it just me or is N'Gog always getting himself into good position, but always seeming to tentative once he has the ball and time put it on net? Just pull the friggin' trigger man!

 • that final freekick that Gerrard struck definitely was off an elbow of an Arsenal player...not sure who. What does it matter though, it's not like LFC deserved a win in that fashion anyways.

Next EPL match is in 21 days...a break in EPL play before LFC has go to Manchester to face Man City.

How did it finish up?

I saw Arsenal go 1-0 up then left

The field seemed to really open up once things became 0-1. Arsenal and Liverpool went back and forth for a stretch after that goal. The Reds managed to get quite a few opportunities down the strech but couldn't convert. In the 94th minute Gerrard and Kuyt both took some questionable flops that resulted in a free kick from straight away at about 30-40 yards. Gerrard struck it clean, but the ball was deflected off an Arsenal player's elbow...match over.

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

1-0 to the arsenal then as the old song used to go. tbh i wish it was arsenal and liverpool fighting it out for the title, not because of any alleigance other than hoping for change. I also feel Wenger and Benitez are both subject to a lot of grief in the media that is unwarranted and unfair. Given the difference in funding and all that it brings i think they both put out fucking great teams and do well to be anywhere near clubs (utd and chelsea) where money is not so much of a problem. In the days when i used to watch football every week, Arsenal and Liverpool were the arch enemies (i'm a Forest fan btw) and hearing myself now saying i wish they were winning the league is kind of strange. We used to go to Old Trafford fully expecting to win and last time i saw Chelsea play at Forest we beat them 7-0 I guess times have changed a bit but then i guess it's nearly 20 yrs ago

Steve, what happened to your squad today??

How about Rodwell scoring his first EPL goal of his career (at the age of 18) to end the match? Then while celebrating the goal he rips off his jersey and gets a yellow card

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...
you just witnessed a football club hitting on all cylinders.. nice to beat the gooners at the Emirates! even nani looked like a real footballer :) That with Chelsea drawing Hull today, great results all around

LFC have 2 massive fixtures back to back now. Getting any points at all from both is going to be difficult

14 matches ;)
Thought the Gooners were weak and there for the taking - but we were missing our big guns. Babel was unlucky late one - that was v nearly a cracker into the top corner.

Everton played well today - showed how weak Man U are ... that's not a criticism, but Carrick was non-existent (quelle shock) and Berbatov (goal aside) was his usual waste of money. Rooney looked very tired - Capello take note.

Rodwell looked like a young Hansen ... great goal - wonder if he fancies a move across Stanley Park ?

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Tough draw today for Reds against Man City. The scoring opportunities were pretty scarce. Skrtel was an absolute stalwart today. Without him I don't believe Liverpool would have even managed a draw. It was also great to see Torres get out on the pitch after being out for over a month. Oh and I must say Pepe was on top form today as keeper.

On the other hand I gotta say I am so damn tired of Lucas and his constant miscues. He looked awful today.

Hopefully Liverpool will be primed to go back to Anfield next Sunday to host Rovers. Gotta have 3 points in that match.

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Very poor passing all round .. both sides closed down well.

Yossi should have had a penalty as he was knocked out of his stride in the area with clear contact - seems like fouling in the area doesn't warrant a spot kick unless you fall over.

Yeah how tough is that? As a player he's just trying to make a play and for his effort he doesn't draw the penalty :what

Bring on Blackburn!

knackered, after the game went 1-1 they just lost their energy..that's what happens when you're still in the title race, league cup AND champions league this late in the season.. maybe LFC will know what that's like sometime in the next decade, lol

all kidding aside, Everton played a great match, and they did just beat Chelsea the week before too ;)
maybe LFC will know what that's like sometime in the next decade, lol
So true, SO true. Everton has really bounced back well of late. We are in the money right now with all the great footy that's being played. We've got the EPL in full force right now as well as Champions & Europa League. It's a wonderful time of the year for a futbol fan :D

I wouldn't worry too much about your squad, Steve. My guess is that next time out on the pitch they will be playing for keeps coming off that uncharacteristic loss.

Yesterday's Chelsea vs. Inter match was superb. A real display of top-flight clubs. Can't wait for the 2nd leg at the Bridge.

Today I am keeping a close eye on LFC as they go to Bucharest in hopes of getting an away goal or two against Unirea. The Reds really lucked out in that Unirea was on winter break leading up to their first leg match at Anfield. Looks like Kuyt is on the bench today so we'll have to rely on N'Gog. Maxi is out too. Looks like Torres should get some run off the bench today.

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

I know this is not a Europa League thread, but...LFC closes Unirea 3-1 (4-1 agg). It's not Champions League, but hey we'll take it! Next up we resume EPL play with Blackburn on Sunday.

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

now that Cech is out for a month, it will be interesting to see how Chelsea react

Carling Cup final this Sunday, I hope United can finally take care of Villa

#1339516Post 56 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

I'm no fan of Chelsea, but while watching the match vs. Inter yesterday I couldn't help but feel bad for them. I never like seeing a guy go down, especially when it's a position that's so important to that squad. I'm guessing they'll be highly motivated to keep their run for EPL trophy going in Cech's absence.

Man U vs. Villa in the Carling Cup Final on Sunday? Very nice, I will definitely be watching that match. I have no love for Man U, but I must admit I love watching Wayne Rooney. The guy is an absolute bulldog and he's SO young. He's best in the world right now imo.

#1339534Post 57 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

all the motivation in the world isn't going to help if your back up goalie sucks.. I like cech, sucks to see him go down, didn't see what happened, but after his head injury, you get a bit worried when he gets another knock

Rooney, you can't say enough about his talent, heart and determination how often do you see a world class striker back in the defensive third of the pitch to make a tackle and take the ball 90 odd yards make a pass and get the ball back in time to bury it.. week in and week out he gives everything he has, you can't help but admire him, and thank god he's got

THREE LIONS ON HIS SHIRT!

;)

funny you say bulldog, I have a bulldog and his name is Rooney!

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Sounds like Martin Skrtel MAY have broke his foot today :(

Hopefully the back 4 can step up in his absence. If Skrtel is really out then we'll need Carragher, Kyrgiakos and company to step it up big time.

Don't worry Steve, as much as I hate to say it, I have a strong feeling that after all 38 matches are in the books your squad is going to prevail over Chelsea. For now just let the Liverpool supporters hope for 4th place :)

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Tough result if you are a Liverpool supporter, great result if you back Man U.:what

Hats off to Man City as they certainly looked tough to beat today with Tevez and Bellamy running all over the pitch and a solid defense keeping Drogba and company from their usual form. Lampard did step up nicely...

That was Man City'sfirst E PL double over Chelsea in 52 years

This makes tomorrow's match against Blackburn all the more important. Also we'll have the Man U-A. Villa Carling Cup final, which should round out a stellar weekend of footy.

I reckon Terry will have flipped and lost it by the summer.

Lot of pressure from all quarters - and well done to Bridge for refusing to shake his hand

You just can't make the Terry-Bridge stuff up. i gotta ask though is this story THAT big in England right now? It must be as it has made its way into US media outlets that never mention the sport...ever.

Isn't the whole thing much ado about nothing? I think baling on the English national team is spineless, but overall I just don't see what makes this such a big deal. If it's convenient someone please enlighten me. However I suppose if Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were involved in this type of this thing THAT would be a big story here in the states.

It was tough watching Man City handle Chelsea as well as they did. Tevez & Bellamy were superb.

In other developments, Liverpool kept the pace with Man City & Tottenham by beating Blackburn 2-1. Not the most convincing win, but seeing Torres & Gerrard find the net certainly put a smile on my face. Pepe was phenomenal. Hopefully Liverpool can keep the momentum going against Wigan next week.

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

woohoo!!! we can win without Rooney! lol

bit of a sloppy match, but i'll take the 3 points, and see the ginger prince get on the score sheet :) especially 2 hours after arsenal went top

good to see portsmouth get into the semi's of the FA cup, god bless them, they might win the FA cup and have to defend it from the League Championship after they relegated

#1344980Post 71 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

I watched the whole match as well and it was certainly sloppy, but also entertaining. i was starting to think Man U was gonna draw or lose, but sure enough the ginger prince got his 100th goal and a big 3 points on the table. Wolverhampton had a great chance to level things late in the game, but like all of their other opportunities in the match they just couldn't finish.

yeah who would've thought Portsmouth would make a run at the FA Cup? Good for them.

#1344981Post 72 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

well, unfortunately man u makes a habit of playing down to the level of the lower tier clubs, or their goalie tends to have the match of his life against us, lol

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...
oh dear
I'm assuming that comment was in regards the embarrassing 0-1 loss to Wigan. Oh dear sums it up pretty well. The squad played poorly all around with numerous miscues from Gerrard, Torres, Benayoun and others. I hate to say it, but Wigan controlled the match almost from start to finish. LFC had opportunities, but like so many this season they could not capitalize. The squad looked frustrated and many of players could be seen barking at each other throughout the match. Rafa should have made subs much earlier in the match, but I do not blame the loss on him. That blame falls on the leaders of the squad...Gerrard, Torres, etc. to pull the squad together in this very crucial time in the season. After watching that embarrassment I am officially...

:I surren:

waiving the white flag on the hopes of making it into the top 4 this season. I'll still be rooting hard for them, but I no longer think that Liverpool is anywhere near being a top 4 club in the Premiership this year. I can't put my finger on what the problem is, but after having watched both Tottenham & Man City numerous times this season I just don't see us catching either of those squads. Here is my prediction for how the Premiership will end this season:

 1. Manchester United
 2. Arsenal
 3. Chelsea
 4. Tottenham
 5. Manchester City
 6. Liverpool :what

That being said, there is still a lot of football to played. Anything can happen!

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

^^^ yes

63% possession 13 shots, ZERO on goal.. come on, that's ridiculous, and yes, embarrassing trust me mate, it's a lot more interesting when Liverpool is in the hunt with the big 3.. yes big 3, there deffo is not a big 4 at the moment

#1346912Post 77 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

wow, and it gets worse

I think Liverpool need to sell Gerrard to Man U.. unless they are big players in the transfer window you'll be seeing the same thing next year, except I really don't see them even in the Europa league.

I still am nervous about Mach 21st though, just glad it's at OT

#1347030Post 78 of 97

Re: Liverpool - English Premier League - 17 games to go...

Gerrard to Man U?!? C'mon Steve, that's not going to happen...EVER. I think Gerrard has every intention of finishing his career at Merseyside.

Yeah March 21st is gonna be great. I can't wait for it!

Btw your club absolutely destroyed AC Milan this week. That was a very impressive match. I have to admit I am jealous. I am of the belief that not only will Man U win the Premiership this year, but they are also going to win Champions League as well.

Sadly, I see your point. Gerrard looked as frustrated as I have ever seen him during that match against Wigan.

Hopefully LFC shows up ready to play on the 21st, which I am assuming they will. If we were to win that match I would be satisfied for the rest of the year. Like my friend said last night, "I am prepared to endure 10 losing campaigns and will still be a proud supporter."

RUBE CRED...ding!

Good luck this weekend to all of our respective clubs...except Chelsea. I ALWAYS want them to lose :D
