wow, good for joe. turned down a 5 million offer with 3 more in incentives. i would too if my boss was gonna fire me for only being in the playoffs for 12 years in a row, and winning 4 rings.

well its the beginning of the end of this yankee era, as i feel confident that posada and rivera are on thier way out as well.

bye bye arod

jeter is the last one standing from the dynasty.

yanks in for a few rough years. lets get back to the big ticket items being arms, not bats, and focus on pitching with role players.

Re: torre walks!!

good for Joe, that's no way to live every day with that blowhard of a boss looking over his shoulder...

Re: torre walks!!

i love joe, dont get me wrong, but the current roster needed a more fiery guy, like when zimmer was here. joe is perfect for the yanks champ teams, the big ego's and money, were the pitching. his demeanor with those guys like cone, pettite, clemmens, key, gooden, wells, el duque, etc, was the perfect pair, but they dont have them now and he had to manager arod, jeter, giambi, sheffeild, etc.... with the team being built around bats, we needed more of a girardi, pinella, guy.

but do not take that as anything more than an explanation. joe was nothing short of the best manager in the last 15 years, getting to and being extremely succesfull in the playoffs, every year, during the free agency/wild card era. the boss himself brought the ""situation"" to what it was, he signed players without even telling the GM, a few times, he personally showed up to the contract negotiations, he got rid of stick michael ( the guy who ran the yankees from 90-95 i.e. responsible for the 96 roster), and many other things with the media.

sad day, but always keep the faith. NY dont settle for less.

also, step back drop the hate for the yankees, imagine this being kansas city....... holy cow, what a legacy he is leaving, 12 straight postseasons, 4 rings, 6 pennants, 10 AL east wins staight!, the team from 1997 who basically is the best team ever.

thanks joe, started watching you when i was 16, you are all i really know in terms of yankee success.

Re: torre walks!!

astros should hire him, IMO ;)

sad thing is, the media probably blew this situation up so much, it just enflamed the situation....

Re: torre walks!!

I couldn't agree anymore with what Torre did. He deserveres better than that. I hope they come in last next year. Steinbrenner is an idiot.

i agree, so the astros could continue to lose and not compete with the cards in the central.:p

torre isn't a National League manager. a monkey can manage in the AL, not taking anything away from what torre accomplished in NY tho- he's the best people manager in the business...and that's exactly what you need in NY.
