let the critiquing of the BCS begin.... as i see it, GEAUX TIGERS! i'm very biased, but based on everything, i do feel like LSU had the best case for being #2 and getting the right to play for the championship (only 2 losses that took 6 OTs and combined 8 points, their SOS was out of control hard and they won what i think is the best conference in ncaa). i know a lot of people disagree with that......... but unless you're an LSU or OSU fan, enjoy your other bowl. :D

Re: I Love College Football

I agree with LSU playing OSU, should be a great game.

That said, in the bigger BCS picture, KU going to the Orange Bowl over Mizzou is a fucking travesty. Mizzou is ranked higher, beat the Jayhawks head to head, won the Big XII North, the division in which Kansas plays, and lost to only one opponent all year long.

Could be sour grapes on my part because I'm a Mizzou guy, but I really don't think so.

#944844Post 6 of 36

Re: I Love College Football

poor mizzou really got screwed. that painfully points out the inefficiencies in the BCS system. i saw that coming from miles away. kansas might surprise people if they get off to a quick start, but i was really hoping mizzou would get the nod.

Re: I Love College Football

The whole thing is a big joke. College football is the only big sport where a true national champion isn't identified. The games are great, the season is great, but college football is just an event, not a sport, with the current system in place.

LSU played a very difficult schedule and they're super talented, granted, but a two loss "national champion"? I don't give a shit how many overtimes it took, a loss is a loss. that said, most of the top ten ended up with 2 losses this year, so maybe that's just indicative of the kind of year it was.

OSU - biggest joke of a team in the top ten. The Big Ten is weak as fuck. Ohio scheduled a bunch of pansies, one of theier wins isn't even a division 1 school ffs. LSU is going to spread them out, just like the majority of the current top ten would, and smoke OSU's joke ass. Remember last year? THE Ohio State University??? yeah... THE 82 yards of offense against Florida. End of.

The way this season has gone, there are about 8 teams that have a legitimate gripe to play for the national title. Without a playoff, or even some logical decision on who plays in the championship...it's all nonsense.

Not watching any of the games. Really, what's the point?

BCS

Biggest Crock of Shit

this might sound like a bitter Mizzou alum post, but trust me, i'm over the Mizzou thing- we're used to getting fucked, it doesn't even phase me anymore. i'm more pissed at the missed opportunity we have sitting in front of us this year to see some really amazing and exciting games play down on the field to a true champion.

When do pitchers and catchers report?

Re: I Love College Football

would have been nice to have Hawaii in the title game instead of LSU.The BCS needs to throw out the whole strength of schedule bs.who cares if your schedule is ranked 109 out 0f 119 if you go 12-0 it should be an automatic title shot..all these other top ten teams get there schedule sugar coated so they continue to remain the top schools and yet no complains.the whole thing is a joke

Re: I Love College Football

out of the two teams that are playing for the, ahem, title LSU deserves it more because at least they played some very strong teams in the sec.

strength of schedule matters the most imo. don't we want the "best" team in the country to have the title "national champion?"

If you're playing Akron (osu) or middle tennessee technical institute or something like that all season...are you ever really tested? are you really any good? do you deserve to be called the best when you don't measure your talent the against the best? no.

the bcs is about a group of geezers making money, that's it. i'd love to see how much money goes under the table between the bcs and old guard colleges around the country so everyone will keep this faulty system in place.

there hasn't ever been a bigger layup for the playoff system than this year, and it still isn't going to happen.

Uh, everyone ought to care. Good teams play teams and win. Great teams play good teams week after week and beat them. Champions play great teams week after week and beat them.

I will say this, though. Hawaii is a very good team, and they could probably beat some top tier talent if given the opportunity. A lot of teams avoid playing Hawaii because they know Hawaii is a solid team, and they have nothing to gain by playing them. Michigan canceled its game against Hawaii to play App. State, and we all saw instant karma in action there. They do not deserve to be playing in the title game, though, because they haven't demonstrated an ability to beat top-tier talent. They'll have a shot to demonstrate that they belong on this stage in the Sugar Bowl, and maybe they'll get some comers in the years to come.

Re: I Love College Football

There is actually a very good article written in this weeks TMQ on ESPN.com about the BCS vs playoffs mess. I used to be a big fan of playoffs, but this actually makes some sense; at least it's another opinion... Honestly, I think teams don't want to play Hawaii because they are afraid they will lose to Hawaii, which would not be good for their program. Even so, though, Hawaii isn't in the same caliber as the elite teams...

^and they don't get a shot at the national title just because their fucked by geography.

look, you get to go to school in one of the most beautiful places on earth, and play football and whip up on the WAC, and surf, and soak in the rays...that's your national title.

Re: I Love College Football

Best thing for college footbal would be a playoff. Every other Div 1 sport has a playoff. Football needs one as well.

#946731Post 17 of 36

Re: I Love College Football

^ only if you want to declare a true indisputable national champion. you have to keep in mind that the BCS was not created for this. some people, like myself, are ok with the idea of not having a true nat'l champion produced by a playoff. i fully support the BCS because it does a great job of producing money for schools and by giving great publicity to schools and their programs outside of just football. no, it isn't perfect and screws some football programs unfortunately, but in reality the BCS does a lot more good than bad.

when did you start smoking crack garrick?

#946857Post 19 of 36

Re: I Love College Football

i'm being serious! i like the bowl system. they expose a lot of schools. even more now with non-bcs conferences being represented these days. sorry, i just don't mind the way things are. i wouldn't mind a playoff but this is just as good, imo. keeping the schedule light is good for college too, as in not having to go through the playoff bracket, although i admit i'd like to see more football.

think of this... and this is only in theory. if the playoffs DIDN'T have a 16 team playoff (meaning four extra possible games on top of possibly 12-13 games already... that is a lot for college), then make it an 8 team playoff and teams like hawaii may have not even made the playoffs because they are #10 in the BCS. that is fucked up. no system is perfect. and with as many polls as there are out there that fluctuate team rankings, which ones do you take into consideration to choose the top 8 teams and not be criticized?

Re: I Love College Football

yeah "really" looking forward to tonights game. osu with one loss to ill who got knocked the fuck out by usc, and lsu with 2 losses, granted tough ones, but one to arkansas who got blown out my missouri. lsu should have the "partial" home field advantage and win this one by at least one td.

Re: I Love College Football

So LOIs have been signed! How did your team fare?

WARNING: Rant ahead.

Notre was the concensus #2 which is the best news the program has had in a long time and much needed after the dismal season. I should point out the ESPN ranked them #9. (And Alambam #3 where EVERYONE else had them #1). ESPNs system of recruit ranking is flat out retarded. They name their ESPN top 150 players and dole out ranks soley on how many of those guys you got. I fuckin hate ESPN (don't get me wrong, I love college game day and sports center). Why do they think that they are better at it than these organizations like scouts and rivals that do NOTHING but look at recruits? Plus ESPN has had an anti notre dame bias ever since ND signed their contract with NBC, as evidenced by Danna Jacobsons outburst three weeks ago..."FUCK NOTRE DAME AND FUCK JESUS". ESPN only suspended her for a week following protests from christain groups around the country. They tried to cover the whole thing up sealing the footage, and to this day, no one has actually seen it. (happened at a non televised event, but in front of a large audience).

The one thing they have gotten right...is to have Lou Holz and his weekly pep talks. I heart Lou.

The best team:what:lol: LOL: Oakland

Oakland has won two consecutive AFC West games, after not winning a game in its division since 2004.

Nah bro, detroit red wings are toally the best team.

#975415Post 35 of 36

Re: I Love College Football

i don't remember ESPN ever saying they were better than scout or rival..... anyways, it is a meaningless rank so who cares. recruits are like a box of chocolates... you never know what your'e gonna get. tons of great recruits end up quitting, failing out or getting in trouble and are kicked off their teams.
