Thought I would start a thread to discuss all thats happening this year on the college grid iron. Start things off with the consensus top 25. Anyone see any suprises? (ignore the highlighted teams as I got this from a Notre Dame blog (yeah, I know flame away haters) I thought TCU being ranked 8 by Surefire was a bit optimistic...but a lot of Surefire pics are off compared to the others.

Stassen's still adding magazines to his rankings, so add a bookmark and check back as the season gets closer. Or, hell: go explore his site right now. It's chock full of statistical goodness.

Re: College football 2007

it shouldn't shock me that the media jerks off to USC and put them #1... but nevertheless, they have a good shot. i love LSU, and they may end up as #1, but i think that's a bold statement because 1) their phenom 2nd string qb ryan perilloux, who would have been a perfect sub for flynn when he's tired, is a fucking idiot and is going to get kicked off the team (aka thug like michael vick), 2) they lost a lot of key players and 3) the SEC is just too difficult to get through, although LSU does have most of their tough games at home. i went to A&M and i'll be happy if they do better than #24, but I think that's about right. boise state got screwed, they must have lost a lot of people. LMAO, UGA won't be #16. and hawaii as #21???? wow.

i guess when it comes down to it, i will be optimistic and say LSU and USC have the best chance to be in the nat'l title game. i would be really happy with that. it's a long tough road for both teams though b/c the PAC10 and the SEC are stacked with talent.

Re: College football 2007

unless my eyes are failing me Notre Dame isn't even ranked??I guess the loss of Brady Quinn to the NFL has killed their rankings

Re: College football 2007

that plus the loss of their best WR (and whom i thought of as one of the best in the nation) Jeff Samardzija......... plus they were overrated to begin with ;)

now that weiss has been there a couple years, we'll start to really see if he's worth two shits or not. last year after seeing 60 minutes on the way he handles his players, i'll be shocked if he coaches a successful team. the guy is a dickhead.

Re: College football 2007

Being a Notre Dame fan myself... why is he a dickhead and how does he mishandle his players?

In my opinion, Weiss is a fantastic coach, the best thing to happen to ND in a LONG time. Notre Dame will not do well this year, but not becuase of Weiss. Its because of Willingham, who all but didint' bother to recruit his last two years. There are like 8 seniors TOTAL on the team this year, and only about 15 Juniors. Weiss's recruiting on the other hand has been stellar. Landed the #1 recruit last year (Jimmy Clausen) and the #7 class overall. Had a great class the year before as well. Next years class already has EIGHTEEN people in it. it will EASILY be a top five class. Notre Dame will be mediocre this year, decent next, but three years from now, watch out.

Just putting this out there, I understand if everyone else on the board hates ND, either you love them or hate em'.

Although, I hope A&M does well, they are a team I would really like to see return to powerhouse status. Someone needs to tell Texas to STFU.

yeah, not to bash notre dame (i loved Rudy :D), i just think the media has made too big a deal out of them which has probably driven a lot of people to get tired of them... unfortunate for them.

on weiss, i watched that 60 minutes interview with weiss. he just seemed to be really REALLY blunt and over-aggressive with every one his players and that may work for a lot of coaches, i just like coaches like that. with weiss being there for a couple years, we'll finally start seeing his recruits and see how good of a coach he really is (he did seem to do well recruiting, you're right. but don't you think he'll start playing his recruits if willingham's players aren't good?). i just look at pete carroll and mack brown and i see why they get the best talent year in and year out. they seem very charismatic. i guess i haven't seen that in weiss.

and i hope A&M beats the shit out of Texas too. :) don't know if it will happen with franchione unless he starts calling better crunch time plays.

Re: College football 2007

Yeah, Pete Carol and Weiss are kinda polar opposites. I can't imagine Weiss ever allowing Snoop at an irish practice. I really find it quite amazing that USC players can stay as focused as they do with all the hoopla going on around them, espeically just being in LA.

I did have to laugh though when I read about Leinnertt's child support hearing. $15K a month? Do you know how many condoms that would have bought you?

Re: College football 2007

We all know that Notre Dame shouldn't have been in a bowl game last season. Pathetic. Go Trojans and Bruins!

#898517Post 14 of 46

Re: College football 2007

^ not a BCS bowl anyways. Being a ND fan, I thought it was undeserving. However, that being said, I think the Raiders will regret taking Russell over Quinn in last years draft.

This year, there is no chance of it happening, so don't work. According to Marc May (ESPN) the Irish will start 2-6.

#898528Post 15 of 46

Re: College football 2007

Fuck the Raiders. Actually, Fuck Al Davis. hahahaha. Go Rams! :p

I know it wasn't a BCS bowl but I see you're in agreement that it was truly undeserving and it showed in that game as well. Ah, yes. I can smell football season coming already. Time to get massively drunk and wake up with strangers the next morning. Good times.

I'd prefer it not be Florida again. 3 national championships in two years is enough already.

Re: College football 2007

Who is the stud on Rutgers? Ray Rice? Whatever his name is, can't recall, I read an article on SI which postulated he is one pace to break Ron Dayne's record.

Re: College football 2007

Hahaha. Notre Dame got their asses whopped yesterday. Sorry just though I would put that out there. I guess I cant point and laugh too much though - My school, UCF, got beat yesterday too, but not an ass whopping - which is surprising since they played number 6 ranked UT. Oh yeah and UNM beat Arizona, and the jags won today too, a good weekend in football.
Mizzou straight up owned the Nebraska last night. 41-6 untz
word. was at the game, was kinda surreal to see the Tigers just manhandle Nebraska, after having the image of them whipping us like a rented mule so many times burned onto my psyche.

Am very pumped about next week's game against Oklahoma. Obviously, that will likely be our toughest game of the year, but if they can play that well, anything's possible. Mizzou's ranked 11th now -- haven't seen that since, well, I've never seen that since I've been following them.
whats up beans? go trojans? by the way, you cant help but laugh at ucla, losing at home to nd! :D
Yeah. I'm blown away by the fact that the Wimpy Irish beat up the Bruins but goddamnit to Stanford. It doesn't come as a surprise but the amount of fuck ups the Trojans have had in the last two games is frightening. It's been said before, the only team that can beat the Trojans are themselves and they sure proved that one. PAC-10 are relentless when it comes time to battle USC. It's an all out war. Everyone vs. them.
