Bonds Countdown Begins

With Bonds at 750, it looks like barring a career ending injury, he's going to break the home run record at some point in the fairly near future. I'm going to be really curious to see he's received if he does it anywhere other than San Fran. He's actually going to be here in St. Louis starting on Friday, so if he happens to pick it up a notch between now and then, it could happen here.

That would actually be really interesting -- St. Louis is known for having fans who offer a warm reception to opposing players that have career milestones occur at Busch. Bonds, though, is a different creature, and I'd be really curious to see the reaction if he tied or set the record here. I'll be at the park on Friday -- if he happens to do it then (which I really doubt), he'll get the same reaction from me as any other opposing player who hits a home run off our pitching staff.

Re: Bonds Countdown Begins

might as well give the guy credit even though he's a douchebag... hopefully i'll be able to watch the moment he hits it. i'm also interested to hear the crowd's reaction.

Re: Bonds Countdown Begins

fuck bonds and the gnats!

Go Dodgers! :p

Such a big controversy about this guy, Mark and the hall of fame shit.... geeez. I love it when Barry comes over to Dodger stadium, we let him have it... I think more than any other place haha, it's fun.

that would make me a pretty big Bonds fan -- that is, at least until I get on the phone with Sotheby's.

Re: Bonds Countdown Begins

you could make more if you went to pay per view and burned the fucking thing. at least that is what i would do.

whomever catches that ball, they better make sure it never hits the hall of fame. burn it, throw it off a boat while at sea, whatever. dont let him or MLB get thier dirty paws on it.

Re: Bonds Countdown Begins

You know what would be the best thing that could happen?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No fanfare, no mention over the PA, no applause, no cascade of boos -- just have the scoreboard operator put up the "HR" for the official scoring like it was just any other dinger. Bonds is energized by positive and negative attention -- some would say even more by the negative attention -- so why not deprive him of any special attention at all.

That would really be something. He trots around the bases expecting something, anything, and instead, the ump promptly calls up the next batter.
