First time since 1919! I sure hope it doesn't last as long as the MLB strike 10 years ago but it doesn't sound promising.

Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
one thing is for sure... The Swedish National League is gonna have some bad ass players this year! :Bingo: :Bingo:
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
this blows... guess no Avs this season. :Scared:
sad news... very lame.. the playoffs last year were great imo, was hoping the new season would start on time (IF AT ALL) :x
I already had made plans for a special b-day at the St. Pete Times Forum during one of the Lightning games for the girlfriend's dad. Had a bunch of stuff lined up and finally got it all ironed out with the suits. Guess we'll have to plan for something else now.
It sucks. I really that there is a NHL season this yr. Even though I think the Wings are going to suck this yr. Maybe it will get rid of all the wanabe wings fan out there. Oh well I guess we will see what happens if there is a season at all.
i want all these fucking cunts to come work at my job and make $40,000.00 a year for work that is probably just as strenuous. fucking money-hungry dickheads. and that goes for the nba and the mlb too.
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
Yeah this really blows for all us tampa folk...we win the cup and now we cant even defend our title :(
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
fuck
God damn money hungry bastard bitches.
God damn money hungry bastard bitches.
i dont think its about the players being money hungry.. i think it's more about sharing revenue for small market teams...the players want changes in contract structures making them free agents after certain amount of seasons and things like that.. team owners want salary caps and rules in place so that the whole sergei federov going to carolina offer doesn't happen again and raises the players salaries to much.. of course players want the most money they can get, but by far nhl players are the least money hungry...unlike the nba, mlb or nfl, nhl players play for the love of the game, they play through injuries and work hard every game.....
sorry comp prob double post
bunch of shit......

That shit was official 2 years ago, when the owners started complaining that they were not rich enough!!! FUCK THE OWNERS!!!
On an unrelated note, Civic-Zen, I love your avatar!

on a better unrelated note the FOOTBALL season is in full swing!
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
This is weak. the flames have their first good year in like 10 years, leaving us excited about this year and then...... :MadNow:
Bettman said teams had combined to lose more than $1.8 billion over 10 years, and that management will not agree to a labor deal without a defined relationship between revenue and salaries.
Hmm...not sure what kind of business you're in but if I was losing an average of $180,000,000 per year I think I would want to shutdown too! I'm not saying that the owners aren't greedy bastards, nor am I saying that the NHL players don't deserve the money they earn, but clearly something has to change.

Last lockout: The 1994-95 season. It lasted 103 days and cut the regular-season schedule to 48 games per team that were played solely within each conference.
The players and the owners are to blame for this. It's the owners faults for paying the players such ridiculous contracts. And the players are just downright greedy now. You think a couple million a year would be satisfactory. Or even having the chance to play in the NHL. Think of all the people who wish they could play pro and can't. If they love the game that much they should take the salary cap and be done with it. Now with a lengthly lockout a lot of teams will fold under the pressure of a work stoppage or lose any type of fan base they have built over the years.
This is very depressing!!
Every sport ought to follow the model of the NFL to the extent possible. They have put all the teams on roughly the same level, and it shows in the level of competition and the constant changing of the guard, and gives fans reason for hope every year. I don't purport to know HOW it all works, but it works and works well.
Are you ready for some football?!?!?!?!?
the AHL is going to rock this year...and some of those teams at least will have their revenues saved ;)
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
I know there is going to be a 4 on 4 league that some of the players have started due to the lockout. It is supposed to start at the end of this month. I am not to sure how far it will make it down in the States but I know where I am we have at least 1 game scheduled so far. It should be interesting.
Re: Well NHL fans...it's official
i'm about had it with professional sports. millionaires fighting millionaires over millions. i go to a Ranger game and spend $200 for one night, and these people are still finding a way to fight.
keep them locked out.. They only play a sport and get payed way to much money.. I agree pay them but make a salary cap with a contract for 5 years with a max salary of 10 mil a year.. they don't deserve more then that come on..
