well march is march madness here in the states/southern canada. and one of the greater stories in the one real cinderella. jim valvano.

well, this speech always hit me, just a way to live life when you think about it.

jimmy gave this speech about two months before he died of cancer. taken entirely too early he left a lasting impression on anyone who watched him. a NY guy, from nowhere, with a group of kids, got to band together and take the NCAA tourney in 83. he died at age 47, but every year, when march madness comes, i remember this speech.

I grew up in Raleigh as a die-hard State fan. Love Jimmy V. Great speech!

Re: in the spirit of march... some words.

that speech might have been the greatest speech i ahve ever heard. it was so charismatic and heart-felt that anybody and everybody could take something away from that speech.

Well it has started and for those of us who are stuck at work you can check out cbssportsline.com and they have live feeds so you can watch the games. They even have a cool little "boss button" when you click it it takes you take a spreadsheet. not as good as sitting at a bar getting drunk but it works for me.

Re: in the spirit of march... some words.

do you even know what this thread is all about?

not brackets, someone moved it here b/c he was a coach, but that speech is nothing about basketball , but about living a life worth sharing.

Yes I am fully aware of who Jimmy V is and what an inspiration he and his speech is and will always be. Do you always have to act like a fucking PRICK? I was just posting in this thread because Jimmy V is always on peoples mind this time off year more than any other time. And just a little information for you, my family was and still is VERY involved in many organizations in which we donate very large amounts of money to charities including the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center here in Tampa and The Jimmy V Foundation. In fact before my grandfather passed away from cancer in 2003 he donated over 5 million dollars to Moffitt Cancer Center. So to answer your question, yes I know what this thread is about.

Re: in the spirit of march... some words.

Yea I guess I should have just taken that into consideration. Thats probably why the past 2 times I've been to NYC I flew in, went and saw Sasha and Diggers at Crobar, left the club at 8:30 A.M. and took a cab to that pile of shit they call JFK airport and got on the next flight out of there. It's cool though....

Re: in the spirit of march... some words.

Rooting for UCLA...I can't help it...Florida looks like it's going to be one hell of a rematch, but hopefully not the blowout we saw in last years finals game!

You and me both! I'm not a Gator fan and I also can't stand Ohio St since they beat the Hurricanes in overtime on a complete BULL SHITE pass interference call to win the National Championship in 2002.

Oh well, I live in Florida so
