carmelo and AI....could be great, or a disaster, as AI tends to be more destructive than helpful....

Re: Iverson went to nuggest

I think Sports Guy summed it up nicely:

"I think they were crazy to go for Iverson anyway... wrong team, wrong coach, bad fit... probably worked out for the best. Melo is still in his "I'm the aplha dog, I shoot 28 times a game, I can be as good as LeBron and Wade!" phase... he doesn't want to defer to AI. Iverson needs to go to a place with an established veteran star who understands the value of having Allen Iverson on his team, whether it's Pierce, KG or whomever."

Would have been nice to see him in celtic green, but whatever. The NBA is pretty far of my interest radar these days anyway.

Re: Iverson went to nuggest

i thought i heard a rumour that he was going to come to the pacers, he would fit in with all of the ghetto ass thug life that has been going on lately. and maybe bring some actual talent to the court....but alas...

^ i believe the nuggets have proved they are just as thugtastic as the pacers after last week's brawl. iverson will fit right in. I'm on page with BSully, though. NBA is pushing its fans away, not creating new fans.

Re: Iverson went to nuggest

this is completely not PC, but the truth, and im only reparting.....

here in NY, with the brawl front and center, and the majority of sportscasters and commentators ripping the players, all the "pro-anti" NBA sentiments are showing thier heads with the discussion of why the NBA is dying. here, we have an extremely large population of un-educated african americans and they are all calling up and ripping stern for his actions in regards to everything from the banning of highschoolers to the dress code to the image makeover. the white american who used to buy the tickets has gone away because of this image problem, but the young black fan loves the thug life as a whole. so, with stern taking steps to bring back the fans, the black society is hating the changes, and white fan is loving them. you should hear the radio calls.. its amazing. some people are actually saying that carmelo and nate robinson did nothing wrong........ and when someone calls in and says this is why they hate the game, they instantly are called a rascist because they dont embrace the fighting.

people begin to bring up football and hockey.....yes there is fighting there, but when the fights occur in the NFL and NHL, they dont turn into gang fights, hockey players step back and let the guys duel it out and that is that, they move on. same for football (mostly, lets not forget the miami brawl with that asshole swinging his helmet).

but as a whole, i think the NBA is getting back, they changed the so called "spurs-rules" and are forcing the game to be sped up, they are making it entirely more offensive, instead of the post-jordan defensive oriented game. they have small market teams rocking, and a decent level of parity. i think its getting more bad print b/c they are doing thier jobs, the NBA is indeed far more popular than it was 5 years ago. still not at the level it was during the magic/bird era, but it is moving. there are fewer players who try to be jordan, but that is still a problem, as you cant give a good game when gilbert arenas and kobe are taking 40 shots a game..... with the advent of the mavs, suns, spurs, and now utah and orlando, team basketball is making a comeback big time. just watch its there.

Re: Iverson went to nuggest

oh yeah, tonight just became a LOT more interesting for the west.

AI's first game as a nugget comes up against.... the guy who is the best pure point guard since magic... STEVE NASH. the suns are going for 16 stright too. gonna be a game.............. both guys have shown all the skills, but play like polar opposites. allen likes to be more of a shooting gurad and lane slasher, while never passing. nash.. what can ya say other than.. bell, barbosa, diaw, johnson, thomas, etc... he passes and find other guys shots.

of course it's liked, as that's probably what they do on the "street courts"
