Its called "lowering expectations". The Pats play much better when they're the underdogs, that's how they won their first two rings after all. Then we set the record for most consecutive wins, go undefeated at home three straight seasons and make it 3 titles in 4 years and all the talk of "the new dynasty" starts cropping up. And just like that, there goes our edge.

So last year after our entire secondary goes down with injuries, Belicheck, Pioli and the rest of the Pats braintrust decide to take the opportunity to regain that psychological advantage. We replace our DB's with a bunch of stiffs who couldn't make the XFL, let Indy roll us over at home (allowing Peyton some false confidence) and then get smoked at Denver in January by giving up the ball 1142 times. Phase I complete.

Phase II: Make a strong start in '06 with quality wins against overrated Cincy and Minnesota and then pull a no-show at home against Indy (more false confidence for Peyton). Follow that up with a complete bed-shitting against a lame duck Jets squad and we are officially a 2nd tier contender. Brady looks roughed up, the defense is exposed as being too thin (again) and wouldn't you know it - we're on our way to being underdogs. Its genius really - the shotcallers in Foxboro have done it again. We'll go on a run, secure the 2 seed and smash through the playoffs like the old days. See you fuckers in February.

....so....is anyone buying any of this?

yes i hate manning. this year is an all out blast at the consumer in an attempt to better his image.

he is Arod in football. but worse. Arod's mouth fucks him up, but he rarely trashes ppl.

manning, for the last 3 years has went to the rules committee and had rules changed for receivers and QB's b/c the pats kicked his ass. now look at how many ppl are screaming about how bad those rules are. he has, at least for the last 5 years, thrown his teammates under the bus. go ask famica and edge. they bolted away from him. and both hate him. he called the pats cheaters in the off season, said the refs blew his games. he shits his pants when he isnt playing a playoff game in perfect conditions.

and he has lost every big game he played in, and never shut up.

there are 4 or 5 QB's i would take over manning. im serious. for various factors. as you can see i am hardly a fan of the stat whores in sports. i like team players who game up when it matters and keep thier mouths shut.

example.

the best receiver in the NFL isnt chad, TO or randy moss. the best receiver int he NFL is harrison, seconded by wayne, and jericho cocherry in third. jericho just doesnt have a QB on the scale of manning's ability.

Sean - I was with you right up until you said Cochery is the 3rd best WR in the NFL, he's not even the best WR on his own team.

But Peyton is a doucebag for all the reasons you mentioned - that I agree with.

i watch every week, i trash my own guys when needed, and i give respect to those who deserve it. my reason for putting JC up top is that every week i watch him get to balls he shoudlnt, make great catches under heavey cover, and then gain yardage after catch. consistently good is better than occasionally great IMO.

he isnt getting the rep b/c he, like me, is stuck in jets futility. i still dont like the 67 million dollar shoulder injury playing QB for gang green

hofstra, in the 2 weeks before slections, beat 4 different teams who had first round exits, and beat two team that won two games.... yeah, they shoulda been there. im not saying they were gonna win anything, but they should have been there.
