Re: Closing month of the season...
American League
yankees easily take the east without any serious pressure from the BoSox
Oakland will just barely take the west with some chase from the Angels to keep them motivated through the dog days
in the al central the tigers will limp to a pennant with both the twins and ChiSox nipping at their heels
the wild card will surprisingly go to my beloved twins due to the implosion of the ChiSoxand Thome's hammy. Ozzie Guillen will b crucified in the papers in Chicago without a playoff berth and will soon not be so well likes for his abusive style of managing.
"Don't let the door hit your broken english speaking ass on the way out!"
"HA HA you position has been usurped"
National League
I have the Mets, Reds, and Padres with pennants and who gives a shit who takes the wild card. the NL is such a mediocre league. sorry NL fans but its true!
Re: Closing month of the season...
NL wildcard. nl wildcard nl wildcard.
gonna come down to the 13th hour.
Re: Closing month of the season...
NL wildcard. nl wildcard nl wildcard.

what is funny is that whatever mediocre squad gets it has as good a chance as any NL playoff team to get the World Series
Re: Closing month of the season...
nah, i watch the mets evryday, and they are going to series unless the cards can pull thier heads out of their asses and edmunds, rolen and the bullpen get it together.
Re: Closing month of the season...
NL:
Mets (duh) Cards (fingers crossed) Dodgers wc- Reds
AL:
Yanks Tigers A's wc- Twins
I think any picking beyond that is just picking names out of a hat, but this is what fans do, so lets start picking- While the Yanks are clearly the hottest team right now, what the tigers have done all season with consistency can't be overlooked (although they've been slipping just a bit of late, which is typical of a team that dominates for an entire season- aka - Seattle 117 wins anyone?). And what the Twins have done the second half can't be overlooked either. Twins have two insane pitchers. Sadly, i still think the Yanks win the AL unless hopefully someone gets injured on their squad. Fingers crossed. Yanks vs. Tigers would be immense. I didn't mention the A's because they're the A's.
With the NL, as Weizy said...it's anyone's to grab. If the Cards make it, you can count the Dodgers out, because we just know how to beat them. If the Reds make it, look out for the Dodgers imo, they're peaking at the right time. The Mets with Wright, Beltran, are clearly the favorites to win the NL. Basically what i'm saying is, the Cards and Reds have a slim chance of getting to the WS, let alone competing in it. We've got some serious personell issues here in stl, namely our best closer is named Isringhausen, and for whatever reason, our bats dissappear on some nights.
If i had to pick today-
it's a subway series...Go Mets.
NL MVP - Ryan Howard is the stat choice (except he's also almost leading in strikeouts,) but the Phillies probably won't make the playoffs, so you can't give it to Howard if they don't get in, same with Soriano, move to a different team boys. Carlos Beltran has been killing it all year, in NY no less. He's a few behind in all the stat categories, but he's still right there, and if he pulls some typical Beltran heroics in the playoffs, it's a done deal for the mvp imo. Pujols, not quite enough this year imo even though he's leading Beltran in most categories across the board (especially batting .40 points higher). If you take pujols off the cards team, they're not even close to making the playoffs, so that's certainly means he's their MVP...league wide tho, i dunno, it's going to come down to the playoffs. First half of the season, Poohole was a shoein, now it's questioable.
NL Cy Young - who the fuck knows, i don't think the NL is going to have a 20 game winner this year. If you look at the other stats, you gotta pick Zambrano, but can you reward a pitcher on a last place team? i dont think so.
AL MVP - Jeter (unless the Twins win it all, then Santana gets it) AL Cy- Santana
Re: Closing month of the season...
some great prognostication going on in this thread.
a subway series is definitely a possibility. careful though you may give sightless a hard on with talk like that
Re: Closing month of the season...
AL Cy- Santana
AFTER 2 ok starts, watch out for wang to make a run. boy is unhittable 9 of 10 times. low era, low hits, NO homeruns, goes long innings, but he is a rookie so i doubt it.
Re: Closing month of the season...
and my hardon isnt going away after what you see in my sig. might take another week or two.
Re: Closing month of the season...
Yanks Tigers A's wc- Twins if so then
alds:
yankees vs twins or white socks
a's vs tigers. (not looking forward to seeing verlander, rogers, and bonderman but hopefully we will have harden in the bullpen that would be so huge)
Re: Closing month of the season...
some great prognostication going on in this thread.
well, that's all we can do at this point isn't it?
Or do you want someone to go out on a limb??
ok, i'll walk said limb...
Tigers vs Dodgers in the WS
Tigers win it all.
Re: Closing month of the season...
hehe dodgers, yea you wish
Re: Closing month of the season...
yeah, i know. i was just walking the limb for the sake of walking it. i hate the dodgers, with the exception of maddux.
Re: Closing month of the season...
maddux = legendary player if anyone actually watched him. years and years of crafty dominance. i give him as much credit as clemens and those guys. he is still going, in the middle of a nice resurgence on his behalf. i havent seen anyone on the planet with control like he has.
Re: Closing month of the season...
double post
Re: Closing month of the season...
yea you cant hate on maddux, i actully have his rookie card, he came up as a hard throwing no command pitcher, now hes the classic nerd (crafty) white guy like orel, shilling, mussina
Re: Closing month of the season...
lol, nerd white guys. and you named the perfect 3. moose is a stanford grad, schilling plays everquest religiously. and orel hershieser is the definition of dork
+10 to you sir.

maddux = best 'pitcher' of my generation.
I'd rather watch maddux work hitters over for 9 innings with that off speed wiffle ball stuff, than watch a pitcher smoke guys with heat all game.
Re: Closing month of the season...
^^^^^
complete agreement.
Re: Closing month of the season...
well it looks like the the AL West and East are all set with Yanks and Oaktown winning their respective divisions.
but in the AL Central my Twinks are breathing down the Tigers backs. this week we get Francisco Liriano back at 100%. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the Twins take the division and the ChiSox get the wild card berth.
looks like the Twins can avoid having to go to NYC in the divisional series. thank god!!!
Re: Closing month of the season...
im loving the ortiz jeter media thing.
ortiz opened his mouth and said only homer hitters should be in MVP voting. and in typical jeter fashion, he essentially says.
'' i dont care, we are playing for the playoffs.'' -- hehehe
jeter wont win the MVP, but will laugh it off when he is playing in the playoffs and ortiz is sitting on his fat, missing link ass.

Re: Closing month of the season...
im not saying he will, but jeter has the oppurtunity to become the first player ever to win the MVP, batting title, gold glove and the world series in one year.:!:
bernie williams won all but the MVP in 98
Re: Closing month of the season...
i just wanted to type this again
bench=. M. cabrera, B. Williams, A. Guile, S. Fasano, M. Cairo, A. Phillips, C. Wilson.
one word. DUCK
Re: Closing month of the season...
Larino leaves with no out in the 3rd, sucks for him, hopefully the a's can avoid a sweep
Re: Closing month of the season...
WFAN here in NY says he hurt himself again...... bye bye twinkies.
Re: Closing month of the season...
yea he didnt grab anything but you could tell he was in pain. Haren on the other had, 8 innings 3 hits 7 ks and street got a 1,2,3 9th. now a weekend series against the white sox in oaktown, im pumped
Re: Closing month of the season...
Well Im really hoping that the Dodgers just keep on pace and dont give way to the Pads (only real contender in our division). If we make it to the playoffs, Im fine with that even if we dont advance any further, the fact that we would have done it with plenty of rookies, gives me better hope for the next couple of seasons of perhaps some dominance.
These bunch of rookies really showed off better than the ones form '04 season.
Good luck to all, its gonna be a great ending September finally!

sad day for those of us in twins territory indeed. but the twins have patched it together all season with a less than mediocre pitching staff and we have the best bullpen in baseball so don't count us out quite yet ;)
Re: Closing month of the season...
mets magic number to 2, yanks at 7
the fucking cardinals, dodgers or giants better ice the mets in the playoffs, or at least destroy thier bullpen.
Re: Closing month of the season...
great game up here tonight for us. tied up at 4-4 in the 7th. its raining hard too. rocco balldelli is on fire this series.
matsuii homered, his first two games back since may 15th and he goes 4-4 in the first game, and hits a homer that at the time tied it up at 1-1 in the second game.
Re: Closing month of the season...
dude the Yanks are so far ahead it must be boring for you yank fans...
then again winning is never boring
Re: Closing month of the season...
its the bernie williams farewell tour up here to be honest. every game he gets chants and the fans are cheering when he walks and catches a pop up....
Re: Closing month of the season...
ok, its the day after the mets clinched, and the post celebration lineup has JULIO FUCKING FRANCO starting at third for the first time in 21 years... dont ever say footy is better. LMAO. they didnt even know where paul lo duca was until about 5PM. he missed all the interviews and his manager, willie randolph and steve trachsel had no clue from thier interviews...
Re: Closing month of the season...
laduca, mountian of blow
Re: Closing month of the season...
lmao, yesterday afternoon i went down to the local sports goods shop and bought a rolen jersey to wear out to every mets game me and my friends go to. i gotta get a digi camera and make toasty's day.

Re: Closing month of the season...
im not kidding, from here on out, im a bigger cardinals fan than anyone in st lou.
beat the mets. kill them. shut the fucking mets fans up. so many NY bandwagon fans right now who think they are the next murderer's row with the pitching staff from the 90's yanks.
Re: Closing month of the season...
omg thats sooo taguchi
Re: Closing month of the season...
