What a game last night.1 more game for Miami but I think Dallas might be too strong on their home court.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

NBA Champs, bitches!!!!!!!

I hate basketball but I jumped on the bandwagon for about 20 minutes last night.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

this hurt the NBA big time... the league needed the mavs. now we immediatly jump back to the dark era of the NBA and low ratings. wow, they took a hit. just when they thought they were out of the funk, they just lost a ton of fans.

oh well, my hatred for kobe allows me to enjoy shaq holding the trophy.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

I'm just glad they won because now the hotel prices in Dallas dropped by half, so now I have more money for Digweed . Other than that I could care less about the NBA

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

sightless - why does the NBA need the mavs to win? i love mark cuban (because he loves controversy and always makes mr. "i'm god" stern uncomfortable) and i was rooting for dallas.. but i think d wade could honestly be the next michael jordan, imo. he isn't cocky and just plays the game... very good image for the NBA.

you want my honest opinion.... get rid of the commisioner. he sucks.

congrats to the heat on their first championship. i'm happy for shaq, pat riley and crew. hopefully this will put kobe in his place in one way or another. :)

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

because the NBA does not need another superstar who has a team built around him, they need more teams with superstars playing within the game. and if you dont beleive me, go check out the TV ratings.. they were at thier highest for the bird/magic era, and went downhill when jordan arrived, and then plummeted when he retired and we had the group of players trying to be him.(kobe, iverson, garnett, etc) but you look at who won and it was duncan playing within the spurs offense, making parker and ginobili better. look at nash, novitski, wade and even shaq, they all tuned down thier games for the betterment of thier team and only really went off when it was neccessary. also, we dont need the ""jordan-foul"" anymore. if Dwade plans on reclessly driving the lane then you cannot call every conact foul when he drives his body into a big man and falls back. however with the rise of dwade, my point is proven ever moreso, his 40 points come on 20 shots, and kobe's 40 point games come on 50 shots. this new era that is trying to break through is entirely more fun. its a fast paced game, lots of points, high flying, team based. look at the pistons, they are still a powerhouse of a team where a group of castoffs got together, realized they could play D and operate as a team, not needing the vince carter play style where you give one guy the balls, clear out and let him try to take 2 guys to the hoop and take risky shots. and the suns as well. nash, a small guy who loves to run loses arguably the best big man in the league, picks up 3 guys who were cut from teams last year and a frenchman who sat on the bench to western finals. now look where the so called ""great players "" are. kobe got housed by the suns, without amare or Kthomas, but he is the mvp,....sure. garnett is even here, AI is fishing, arenas made the playoffs but hurt his team by not allowing anyone to be involved. the pure talent of some of these guys makes them a great scorer, but not neccessarily a great player. (carter, kobe, garnett, AI, etc). with the change in the last 2-3 years within the NBA, we now have teams that can play multiple styles, in a flowing game. when you have the so called next jordan you have what we have seen since jordan himself left. slow games, constant fouls, offenses where they are afraid to let anyone but the superstar take the shot (go check out J.kidd's stats after carter arrived).

ill quote bill simmons
Here's what happens if Miami wins the title: New Jersey will say to themselves, "Hey, maybe this could happen to us with Vince Carter"; Washington will say the same about Arenas; Boston with Pierce; G-State with Richardson; the Lakers with Kobe; New Team X with Iverson. And so on and so on. But that's just the thing ... we went through this last decade. There was only one MJ; the formula couldn't be replicated. Same with Dwyane Wade; only LeBron can match him. And everyone else will fail trying, which means we can look forward to another decade of perimeter scorers going 11 for 32 in big games, teammates standing around while stars dribble at the top of the key waiting to challenge two defenders at once, and refs deciding every big game (like in Game 5) by how they interpret contact when the same guy is recklessly driving to the basket over and over again. Does any of this sound fun to you? I didn't think so.

As a basketball fan, I think this would be terrible. A tragedy, even. Nothing against Wade -- after all, it isn't his fault his team sucks and he has to play this way -- but seeing an individual triumph over a team YET AGAIN would erase every positive outcome from the 2005-06 season. Basically, the team with LeBron or Wade will win the next 10-12 titles, and it will come down to which guy made more 20-footers with two guys on him and which guy got the most cheap calls from the most spineless referees. That's not basketball, it's a star system. When my wife was asking why I was so ticked off after Game 5, it wasn't because I had money on the game (I didn't), or because I liked one team more than the other (I don't). If Miami wins, we may as well go back to box haircuts again, because it's going to be 1991 all over again -- the "New and Improved" NBA will have been defeated, and the Old-School NBA will reign supreme.
the NBA's needs to push the renaissance they are going through, if only for the fans, remember them, they are ones paying for tickets and allowing you to earn billions from the networks.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

thats my 100% honest opinion. i was a die hard NBA fan when i was younger, lost interest with the jordan teams later on, and didnt watch a single game for about 4 years. then last year this little upstart team who didnt want to play defense, but wanted to have 4 guys averaging 20 a game came around and then suddenly thier power forward realized he can become the most dominant big man for awhile and he decided he wanted 30 a game ON TOP OF the other guys getting 20. oh yeah, thier little general, he is the current , 2 time MVP.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

all points well taken. i agree with you 100% after reading that. even though i think d wade is an admirable role model for young kids, i like the team attitude much better. like when the rockets repeated in '94 & '95, it was a team effort (had to bring that up :)) enjoyed the read. i see what you are talking about now.

#658604Post 9 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

i can/will talk sports any minute of any day. i live for the yanks, maple leafs, suns and jets. 2 of 4 isnt bad. and im damn glad i could relay some of the positive feelings i got on the NBA, while pointing out why i cant fall in love with the so called next jordan, whoever it may be in a given year. the thing about wade is that he plays within himself, always getting a few assists and rebounds on top of turning up his scoring when they need it, not just when he needs it.
i like the team attitude much better. like when the rockets repeated in '94 & '95, it was a team effort
you forgetting about Hakeem? He's the reason they repeated.

#658617Post 11 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

he was their main player, sure, but in no way was he the only reason they won. you had clyde the glyde, horry, cassell, kenny smith, mario elie... all big contributors to their repeat.

in the same way jordan won with rodman, pippen, kerr, kukoch...etc.

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

game 5 is one thats going to stay with me for awhile.

the nba loves d.wade and shaq and the officiating proved it.

i wont watch next year.

sure you will... don't lie. or would you rather watch "how to get the guy". :)
in the same way jordan won with rodman, pippen, kerr, kukoch...etc.
point taken, but every good team is going to have a dominant player that stands out. you could say that about the mavericks too... dirk is easily their best player and he has a supporting cast. nash is obviously the dominant player for phoenix with a smart, efficient supporting cast, nash just gets it done in a different way. it doesn't mean any one team plays like less of a team than another. the rockets played like a team until barkley and pippen came... why? they ruined their team strategy that worked for them. if jordan didn't have a good supporting team, he wouldn't have as many rings as he does, hands down.

^exactly- which is why i think bill simmons and sightless (since he regurgitated simmons' words) are wrong.
now we immediatly jump back to the dark era of the NBA and low ratings. wow, they took a hit. just when they thought they were out of the funk, they just lost a ton of fans.
What fans did the league lose? I know it's not the Dallas fans because those guys couldn't cheer for shit. I was in Dallas during Game 7 vs. San Antonio as well as during Game 1 of The Finals and I gotta say, they are one confused bunch. They rarely cheer, they don't cheer during replays of their own team and if they're winning at the end of say... the 3rd quarter, they don't even fucking cheer. I know it's not all of them but I was around a massive amount of people and I could not believe what fucking pansies those people were. Pathetic.
I could be wrong here but maybe it's because the Mavs aren't a professional level team yet. :p

Being a Lakers fan, I'm glad to see Riley get another ring. That guy is awesome and the rest of the team did good. Congrats.

Now the pressure is on the Dolphins here. Marlins won 2 championships in about 7 yrs, now the Heat won, so the pressure will be on the Dolphins to win the Superbowl.

NBA basketball......... :ZZZZ:

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

I can completely understand why you would like Cuban, Garrick because you both are homosexuals. I feel bad for Jibby having to be around you and all of that ass sex with your other darkie friends.
I'm not controversial in the slightest bit. The problem you have with me is that I don't accept rap as a form of music and that I speak the truth. Enjoy it while you can, boy. AIDS will ultimately be the demise for you and the rest of the animals.

:Anal:

And yeah, basketball today is nowhere near what it was before. I noticed the biggest changes happening around the time that the Bulls started their reign in the 90s. After that, fundamentals went out the door, play has become extremely sloppy... it's just pathetic. Man, watching the Lakers win five championships in the eighties, now that whole decade right there was awesome. Some great playing, players, matchups, rivalries, etc. happened during that time.

why should they care. Look at the money they make. They don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

#659519Post 31 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

LMFAO. I never stated anything about caring, dude. I stated that simple fact because then the game would be so much better as a whole for the player environment as well as for the fans.

#659532Post 32 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

NBA was/is a group of teams, who have one superstar and 4 other guys just hanging around... not right.. go phoneix... and all the superstars who put themselves above the uniform dont win in the end. look at the 3 big superstars who won it in the last decade... duncan, shaq, and jordan.. all guys who played within themselves and made guys like ginobili, horry, pippen, kerr, kukoch, grant, parker, etc all good players and household names. kobe isnt helping out luke walton anytime soon. now today you look at dwade and he is the same style in that aspect, he allows shap to be influential in games while only scoring 10 points, lets jason williams get 15 a night, haslem stepped up, and was allowed to. mourning, etc.... its why he isnt just a talented scorer, but a damn fine player to watch. but again, ill take the team and uniform over the player..(detroit, spurs, suns, mavs)

#659533Post 33 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

You can go ahead and take those teams while I stick to my original choice since I was a kid and support my local teams.

Also, Detroit, as I stated earlier, were bought with the sole intention to get a championship. Those players aren't nobodies unless you don't follow the sport. And as for Dallas, they're not a professional calibre team and that's why they lost. C'mon, it's fucking Dallas. :roflmao:

#659551Post 34 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

ok, lets look at detroit..

c. billups.-- ok, here is a guy who before he came to detroit wasnt even a starter. he was a backup point/shooting guard with denver and minnesota, only once averaged more than 12 a game and that was 13 a game one year. never had decent assist numbers. he played for 6 teams before that. oh yeah, he was a superstar brought in for a championship. NO> he was brought in b/c he was a decent defender and larry browne knew he would listen.

sheed- was the third option in portland behind pippen and smith. oh yeah, damon stoudmaire was there too. sheed never got above 17 a game there.. wasnt a good defender and was known for multiple drug violations, a problem in the house and on the court.

b. wallace-- a guy who never averaged anyhting near an offensive player, only was known for his lane defense and was a good player. larry got him, and turned him onto a MONSTER underneath once rasheed arrived.

hamilton-- came from the wizards where he was the second option, scoring about 19 a game. on a terrible team.

tayshaun prince.-- from the nets where he was only the 6th man. tough defender, decent 8-15 foot shooter.

oh yeah, that team was put together in the likes of YOUR team that shit the bed with lets see..... ummm..... oh yeah 4 fucking HALL OF FAMERS> shaq, kobe, malone, payton...... yeah.... beanz you dont know shit about that team.

#659553Post 35 of 38

Re: Miami Heat!!!!!

and as for the mavs, they have a solid team, and were simply outcoached. give avery his credit, he is only in his first full season, has picked up some great players for his style and is making dirk a phenom. taught them defense, taught dirk he has to play the lane, and make howard, harris, and terry even better.

seeing Pat Riley dance in celebration during the parade with the team, he is truly the legend and the players coach. He looked like not only the coach but like a member of the team!!! Pat Riley = :Respect:
