ouch. when the word severe enters the diagnosis, it cant be good. how do you think they will fare now that they are hurting so bad? can rolen become a great player and not just be ""really really good"" (you know what i mean here, i am not knocking him. but he has yet to show he is a top teir) will the bottom of the lineup pick it up?

you guys are quickly becoming the yankees with all these injuries to key components... \

thoughts>:?:

Re: jenks + toasty

We've been banged up for awhile now, and still winning, largely due to Pujols' offense. He accounts for a third of our total offense this season. Huge blow to the team, however...if we can't win with him on the bench we don't deserve to be in the run for the nl title. There is no way to replace his numbers, obviously, but this might be a good time to see if the bench can step up, and when Pujols comes back, we're only going to be better.

Definitely comes at a shitty time, with carpenter out too, reds winning games at only 3 back. Time for the rest of the team to step up to the plate. Edmonds and Rolen came in on Sunday and delivered. Here's hoping it continues.

I still think the cards should look for another bat. With or without pujols, we could use another big bat in the lineup. Mulder might be good trade bait.

Re: jenks + toasty

i hear ya. luckily this group of kids we brought up are not only filling the linup card, but producing. on our end, in the matter of three weeks, we lost posada, AROD, giambi, jeter, rivera, chacon, crosby, and oh yeah,,, sheffeild..

Re: jenks + toasty

thats too bad... his HR rate and his RBI rate was phenominal, to say the least. i think one of the announcers said he was on pace to break the all-time most RBIs in a season which is 191. that would have been crazy.

Re: jenks + toasty

he's been the best player in baseball for 5 years...this day was going to happen sooner or later. if it was eventually going to happen, i'm glad it happened before the allstar break, and not later in the season. i hope this injury doesn't nag him for the rest of the year tho.

Best player in five years? Good god. Bring back Devon White. :roflmao:

Re: jenks + toasty

It blows, but I think Jenks hit it spot on -- if we're going to be true competitors and be a well-rounded team, the other guys are going to have to step it up anyway. It's obviously a huge loss, though. Better now than late September.

Thank God Carpenter's going to be back on the mound tonight, and that he can get back into form -- and that he can get more run support than he's had in some of his previous starts. I'll be there cheering him on...

Re: jenks + toasty

no need to step it up when your division is weak as balls anyways.... if the first two months say anything, the cards will be fine.

Re: jenks + toasty

I'm fairly certain we'll take the central. i also think it's all a moot point in the NL, as noone is beating either the white sox or tigers at this point in the season.

Who would of thought this sentence would ever be uttered?

Fuck. Wrong on both counts. At least the weather was nice...

Jim Leyland.

Re: jenks + toasty

how bout them yanks. 2/3 homegrown roster without jeter. they are on a tear and playing like they used to when they were champs. small ball, good defense and clutch hitting. no more hitting homers for runs. so happy to be a yanks fan.

when did this thread become about the yankees? ;)

yeah srsly.

Back on track without Pooholes. Carpenter struck out 13 last night. Rolen's average leage leading @.351....and .481 since pujols went on the DL. Eckstein hitting .324. <love watching that kid play ball, a pest at the plate. If they keep it up, going to be massive when Poohole gets back in the lineup.

true that. Rolen has stepped it up in a big way but, as is his wont, very quietly. He seems to lack some of the power he's had in years past, but the dude just keeps going out there and hitting double after double after double. And Eck is just a gamer -- leading the league in hits, and the guy never wastes an at-bat. I'll take it.

Re: jenks + toasty

no offense boys, but this year. the mets are gonna destroy the NL. and im a yanks fan........

they are sick and beltran right now is the hardest guy in the world to get out, reyes is a DEMON on the bases, and frankly, wright is the best hitter in baseball, not for power, but overall. pedro is going good, glavine is BACK, and el duque is in the fold, so you can count on him winning a few playoff games. add in delgado, loduca, cliff floyd, millege, nady...... well... im looking forward to seeing the yanks fight the 2 sox teams for a chance at another subway world series so i can see ALL 7 games of it.

#657012Post 18 of 20

Re: jenks + toasty

Wright is NOT the best hitter in baseball, not even in the NL, and i'm not talking about power, i'm talking about all around. Do some stat checking before making those ridiculous claims Sean.

As far as your wish for a Subway series...that's not happening, and i'll shave my balls with an epilady if it does.

Re: jenks + toasty

bro. there are half a dozen teams better than the cards right now. and yes d. wright is dominating right now. 9 homers inteh last 10 games, a first inning RBI in the last 12, he is slugging 580, hitting 340, has lots of RBIs, feilding a lot better and has been monster in the clutch. he has scored 43 runs batting either 3rd or 5th. he has 10 stolen bases. he is only 23. he should be aorund 40 homers for the season. has around 20 doubles already, and looking at 125-135 RBIs.

its against all i stand for to promote the mets, but you cant ignore facts.

and baseball does revolve around the yanks and sox. its why every single time they play road games the average attendance rises dramatically. its just the way it is. they are the best rivalry in sports, always close in standings.
