Football question. Being from portugal, is it true Maureen was totally hated when at porto??? He's gone down that same road in the premiership.... nobody likes him anymore.

Re: Kinetic - Footie question

Nope...he was idolised like a God, up until the last few few weeks before signing for Chelsea, when there was a rumour that he was banging the girlfriend of the boss of their organized supporters group.

If you remember, when the Champions League final game against Monaco was over, when the ref whistled the end of the game, he didn´t look half as happy as when he won the UEFA Cup against Celtic. That´s because he and his family had received death threats from those Porto supporters that week, and was looking for his family in the stadium.

What I can tell you is that, while at Porto, EVERYONE but Porto supporters hated his guts. But after leaving, Porto basically lost everything last year, and he was sorely missed, even by most players, who think he´s a genius, and on the other hand, most everyone in Portugal now loves Maureen and Chelsea, he´s constantly on the TV in commercials and stuff, every Chelsea game is shown live and some even herald him as an example for the Portuguese people, because of his ambition and the fact that he says what he thinks and, well, he´s still a winner.

He does need to get his priorities straight when signing new players for next year though...with 2 or 3 exceptions, his team is very weak.

Re: Kinetic - Footie question

fair enough his fans liked him but nobody else does so the answer to my question is yes.

How anyone can think he's a genius is beyond me. He's tactically naive and imho in the big games he doesnt know what to do with his team.

Re: Kinetic - Footie question

He's a quality manager, of that there can be no doubt. His record over the past few years is amazing. BUT, he's an arrogant twat, and needs to learn some humility - he just sounds like a muppet with all the excuses he comes out with, like this weekend in the cup.

I reckon he's got one more year at Chelsea - if he doesn't win the CL next year, he'll be on his way. Two back to back league titles is awesome, but with the money they've spent it should be the minimum they acheive. How he can come out the other day and say the team is no better than last year after he spent ?54m on it is unbelieveable. At any other club he'd be out, but those fucks are playing in a different league to everyone else with the russian funding them.

So it was great to see them beaten, particularly as it was by my team. Just hope we don't slip up against the Hammers now, it will be a great season if we get the FA Cup.

You people seem to forget that he won two consecutive European cups with a team of then unknown players who, with the exception of Deco and the 2 Portuguese he took with him, never did anything worthwhile after that. Not much Russian money backing there, was there?

Then he arrives at a country that usually looks down on foreign managers, with a totally different style than the Portuguese or even most Latin leagues, to coach a club with no tradition and barely any history, full of players who had never won anything, and wins the Premiership twice, one League Cup, and I don´t know how many semifinals in home and European cups.

If there´s anything wrong in what he did was, 1st of all, choosing Chelsea, then, his signings were mostly crap this year and third, the guy needs to learn how to face defeat better...but that´s because he´s always been a winner. And finally, you guys keep talking about money, but let´s compare what he spent with a shitload of clubs around Europe (including the UK) who spent as much or more, and won nothing.

Also, no one in the past few years has bothered the british media and the UEFA lords as much as him, so much so that in Europe Chelsea constantly suffered from bad refereeing, so he´s got my full support for that. Most of the people who badmouth him would love to have him coach their team, because right now he is the best manager in the world.

To lose decisive games, you first have to earn your place in them. And personally, I love it that so many people spend time talking about the guy.

Re: Kinetic - Footie question

UEFA cup doesn't count for not much by most standards (unless you're a Middlesborough supporter etc) and isn't that hard to win given the teams usually involved. Maybe you could post who they got past with scorelines as I'm fully aware of what they achieved in the Champions League.

This was the best I could find right now : http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UEFACup/history/Season=2002/round=1631/index.html

It baffles me how people narrow what he?s achieved down to luck, but it?s your opinion, so there you go...

It?s also amazing how much the british media (and I?m starting to think it?s not just the media) talk about him, yet it seems no one discusses things like "ok, Liverpool won the CL last year, but they have a Spanish manager and mostly foreign players...Arsenal is in the CL semis this year with a french manager and almost no english players in the whole roster". And how many Premierships were won in the last few years by british managers? In fact, if you take away Sir Alex, how many years has it?s been since a mostly english team with an english manager won anything anywhere? Doesn?t that bother your media? Is Maureen your only problem?

Finally, how long has it been since an English team, be it national squad or club beat a Portuguese team?
It baffles me how people narrow what he´s achieved down to luck, but it´s your opinion, so there you go...
Let's put it this way...

UTD were lucky to win the actual final after Bayern twice hit the woodwork.

Liverpool were even luckier with some of their results before the Milan game.

And if Arsenal beat Barcelona in this year's final they will definitely need some sort of luck IMO.

As for the rest of your discussion I'm not disputing anything other that what I've mentioned. I simply couldn't give a fuck about any points of view held by the media or which nationality manages a domestic club.
Finally, how long has it been since an English team, be it national squad or club beat a Portuguese team?
Am I (or anyone else) meant to recall all results from English teams playing the Portuguese in recent times, didn't think so, but I'm sure you can point this out and answer your own needless question which doesn't add upto much.

Like I said, it?s mainly the british media. But they?re not alone, it?s the same in Catalonya, for example.

As for "man who wasnt there"?s points, you?re answers don?t surprise me, we could be talking about footie all day long, but I can be arrogant too sometimes, so I?ll end it here.

Anyway I hope Maureen continues to give a a lot of people a lot of rashes and heartburn (this isn?t directed at you btw, man who wasnt there).

I've no issue with yourself but I fail to see where I've been arrogant?

And I do enjoy watching the Portuguese side out of the many international teams.

forget about it...when it comes to football we latins are a passionate bunch...i just took your "don?t give a fuck about the other stuff" or "needless questions" as coming across a bit arrogant, but I?ll admit my mentioning of the english teams results against the portuguese was a cheap shot and I did it on purpose...so I was no angel either :what

It?s all cool with me, I love the Premiership, I follow it every weekend. 8)
